What’s the Big Deal? Summers at Lausanne! A great place for students in grades seven
and eight to chill with friends, improve their athletic skills, keep up with academics and
be creative. Non-Lausanne students are welcome to attend.

Lausanne Summer Links
Before and AfterCare
The Summer Links program offers BeforeCare and
AfterCare each day of the summer that camps
are offered. BeforeCare is held from
7:30 – 8:45 a.m. each morning and AfterCare
is held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. each afternoon.
BeforeCare: $5.00 per day
(any time from 7:30 – 8:45 a.m.)
Middle School Student Policies:
1.) Cell Phones:
Students are allowed to have cell phones in their bags, but they are not
allowed out during camp.
2.) Technology:
iPods, computers game systems are to be kept in bags. All items brought on campus
are not the responsibility of Lausanne Summer Links.

The Martial Arts program is conducted by
Tom Oakes and the Family Taekwondo Center of
Collierville. Tom, a fourth degree black belt, has
14 years of experience as an academy owner
and teacher. Martial Arts develops a strong mind
and body by instilling self confidence, self
discipline, respect for others, leadership skills and
acceptance of responsibility. It tones and
strengthens muscles, increases flexibility
and mobility and improves hand/eye coordination.

What’s summer without a campout?
Over the summer, Lausanne will host three campouts that consist of a bonfire,
a cookout, a talent show, water slides and an overnight sleepover in the gym.
Breakfast will be included the following morning for the campers who spend
the night. You have the option of choosing your pick-up time on the evening
of Lausanne Palooza, as well. You may choose from the following options:
1. Water slides and cookout (pick-up at approx. 8:00 p.m.)
2. Water slides, cookout and bonfire (pick-up at approx. 9:30 p.m.)
3. Entire evening, including sleepover and breakfast (pick-up at approx. 8:30 a.m.)

Upper School 101
Are you ready for some FOOTBALL? If you want to
kick like Adam Vinatieri, throw like Peyton Manning,
run like LaDainian Tomlison or catch like Larry Fitzgerald,
then this is the clinic for you. You will become a better
passer, kicker, punter and player. You will learn simple
offensive and defensive plays as well as everything else
between the lines. Players should bring their own equipment.
For students entering Upper School or soon-to-be-entering the
Upper School. We'll focus on technology skills (how to make great
use of Word, PowerPoint, MovieMaker, FirstClass, etc.; using
Google docs for small groups presentations; effective use of the
Internet), library and researching skills, study skills (note-taking
and organization), succeeding in IB/AP/Honors classes at Lausanne,
essay writing and expectations, and finally - "the Lausanne Way" –
self-advocacy skills and time management skills.

This camp is a great place for beginners or advanced
players to hone specific skills and improve performance

three-point shot, this is the camp for you! You will focus on the
fundamentals of basketball during the clinic and improve your
passing skills, dribbling, stance and positioning. You will learn two
or three offenses and defenses and practice these in game
situations. Most importantly, you will have fun!

If you are prepared for an artistic challenge and so much
variety, come and experience our Lausanne art studio.
Each day you will experience and explore something new,
from rubber stamping to painting.
Live the life of fashion. During this week, you will design your very
own styles, make your own clothes and present them in our very
own fashion show on Friday, June 18. You will receive a manicure,
pedicure and more. The class will help campers build self-esteem
and confidence.

Chess makes you smarter in a fun, exciting and challenging
environment! The country’s premier chess camp will host some
of the world’s best chess players such as International
Grandmaster Alexander Stripunsky, International Grandmaster
Josh Friedel, International Fide Master Jake Kleiman, Women’s
International Master Alisa Melekhina and Eve Litvak.
All instructors are active and experienced chess coaches and
include a former World Championship player, a U.S. Co-Champion,
and a runner-up in the U.S. Jr. Championship. This camp is
designed for all levels and ages. Each camper will be taught by
every instructor on a rotating basis, and counselors will remain
with each group throughout the day. There will be sports breaks.
Camp includes a t-shirt, group photo, daily souvenir, trophy,
autographed certificate and tournament for each camper.
BeforeCare and AfterCare is available. Camp is for residential or
commuter campers. Open house and orientation will be

Come earn that “ace” at the Lausanne Tennis Camp which
will include individual instruction on the fundamentals
of the game as well as games and fun competitions. Current
team members, get a jump on your summer tennis to get
ready for another great year. Beginners, get a head start on the
game with individual and group instruction mixed in with
aheavy dose of FUN. Don’t forget your tennis shoes and a racquet.
Lausanne School of Rock
Auditions: June 19

Lausanne School of Rock is an intensive music program for
students wishing to play and perform in a group setting. You
must already be proficient on your instrument and will
audition to be placed in groups if you do not already have a
group. Voice, guitar, bass, keyboards and drums will be
accepted primarily, but other instruments are encouraged
to participate. In addition to rock, various styles and genres
such as blues, pop and funk will be included in the program.
Classes in songwriting, personal instruction and stage presence
will prepare campers for a concert on Friday demonstrating
their skills.

Become a scientist in action in this fun, hands- on science
camp. Investigate an oil spill and focus on the impact of water
pollution. Learn about the structure of DNA, and perform
DNA isolation and precipitation. Excite some electrons and
create some serious circuits. Discover the difference between
potential and kinetic energy and the simple principles behind
the energy of motion. Slide down the colorful pH scale and dip
into the world of acids and bases. Learn about the states of
matter, homogeneous vs. heterogeneous mixtures, solutions,
suspensions and much more.

Do your pictures lack pizzazz? Bring your digital camera and/or
“old fashioned” film camera to class each day and learn how to take
great photos! You will learn how the f-stops and shutter speeds in
your camera control what your picture looks like. Whether you
shoot with film or you shoot with digital, you will explore
photography and see incredible results. On Friday, July 16 you will
have an amazing portfolio and we will host a photo exhibit and
display your works for all to see.
Soccer
How’s your kick? Need to work on passing, strategy, tactics and
dribbling? You will learn the fundamental skills in this one-week
clinic, working individually as well as in game situations.
Movie Makers

It’s movie time! Write, cast, direct, film, edit and produce a movie
(in a week)! You are the crew, the cast and the staff all rolled into
one. Learn how to film your own movie and edit it to be shown
Friday, July 30 in your very own debut. You will learn camera basics,
lighting, sound recording, digital video editing and DVD production.
You will receive a DVD copy of the final film!

dive and dodge in this sports-centered camp. Bring
your tennis shoes and water bottle.
Kick start the new school year! Along with study skills and selfadvocacy strategies, students will participate in hands on activities
covering goal setting, time management, learning styles, reading
comprehension, summarization and paraphrasing techniques,
summer reading materials, test strategies and much more to get
off on the right foot.

Scrapbooking is all the RAGE! This is your chance to
create a fun and creative scrapbook to treasure for a
lifetime. By the end of the week, you will have a scrapbook
to cherish forever. Think about the themes you could do
such as “My Family,” “Sports,” “My Pet” and more! Each
camper will create a scrapbook using at least 20 photos.

Ace YOUR College Application Essay
August 3 – August 7 (9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)

In this hands-on class, istudents will get a head start on the
challenging task of tackling the college application essay. You will
have the opportunity to use self-quizzes and discuss sample essays
to generate your own topics and drafts. Writers of the college
application essay must be prepared to face a highly critical and even
jaded audience, so this camp will help you dazzle the reader with
stylish, polished prose. We’ll emphasize showing rather than telling,
avoiding clichés, using lively active verbs and editing to cut
wordiness and repetition.
This youth cheerleading camp is open to all girls who
have an interest in cheerleading, no prior experience
required! During this camp, you will learn the basics of
becoming a cheerleader. We will cover basic motions and
simple sideline chants and cheers. Campers should wear
comfortable shorts and t-shirts with tennis shoes (no
sandals or backless shoes). This camp will be fun and exciting!

Drop-off Procedures
BeforeCare ( 7:30 – 8:45 a.m. )
Campers must be signed in by a parent or guardian
in the Summer Office, located next to the Norfleet Gym.
Morning Camp ( 9:00 a.m. )
On Mondays, ALL campers must check in at the
desk located in the lobby of the Norfleet Gym,
where you will receive nametags designating classes
and times. An assistant will show you where to meet
your teacher in the gym. If you are coming for a 12:30 p.m.
activity ONLY, report to the Norfleet Gym, where you
will receive a nametag and be shown to class. From
Tuesday through Friday, campers dropped off for a
9:00 a.m. class will report directly to the same spot in
the gym where the teacher will be waiting. Campers
coming at 12:30 p.m. will wait in the Norfleet Gym
until 12:30 p.m. when they will be walked to class.
Early Pick-up or Late Arrival
Please come to the Summer Office to sign your camper in
or out when picking up early or arriving late. Campers will
not be dismissed from their classrooms or activity; campers
must be checked out from the main office in Norfleet Gym.
Absence Reports
To report an absence, please call the Summer Office. Please
leave your child’s name and the camp name so we can notify
the teacher(s).
Medication Note
School personnel must have parent/guardian consent and
a physician’s order to administer prescription medication.
Over-the-counter medications require parent consent.
This permission must be in written form and on record in
the summer office. Written parent and physician
authorization must be renewed annually.
Pick-up Procedures

Each day, campers will be dismissed to the front of
the Shockey Carpool Circle at 12:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m.
Parents will be able to drive up and pick up your child.
Carpool tags are mandatory.

Camp Store
Each day, campers have the opportunity to visit our camp
store on campus. Snacks range from $0.10 to $1.00. The camp

with price limits for each day so the child does not have to carry
money to camp. If you do send money daily, please send the
money in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name on it.
