We All Scream for
Ice Cream!
Everyone knows that one of the
true joys of summer is eating
cold ice cream on a hot day; and
Friends Home residents were an
extremely joyful group as they
devoured popsicles from La Michoacana in June. La Michoacana, an ice
cream shop located in Kennett Square, is known for its flavor varieties, which
range from the traditional Vanilla to the more exotic Corn, and (of course)
Mushroom! But the hunger for ice cream didn’t end there—a few weeks later, it was off to Woodside Farm Creamery in Hockessin for more melt-inyour-mouth deliciousness. This trip was so popular, another has been
planned July for Linden Hall residents!
As if those two frosty experiences weren’t enough to cool everyone off, Bayada Home Health
visited on June 18 with cups of
refreshing Rita’s Water Ice. It
was a huge hit with one and all.
Happily, no incidents of brain
freeze were reported.
Eleanor Cobb and Marion Guest chillin’ on the porch
“Keep your face always toward the
sunshine - and shadows will fall
behind you.”
These are just
some of the
inspirational
words penned
by poet Walt
Whitman in
the 19th century. Whitman, considered one of
the greatest
American poets, was “brought to life” at
Friends Home on June 1 in program entitled American Voices: Walt
Whitman Perspective.
On Monday, June 23, our young friends
from the JAM Daycare stopped by to
make a craft. We had so much fun and
wish we could bottle just a little of their
energy!

Advice
By Barb Bryer, RN-Director of Personal
Care
Did you know that July is AntiBoredom Month? Boredom in its simplest form is the feeling of “having
nothing to do”. Boredom does pose a
health risk: it can sap us of our energy
and motivation but also contribute to
more serious emotional and physical
health problems. It can easily set in,
and the challenge is to try to do something, truly anything other than give in
to it! Some ideas are to start a collection, play a game you’ve never played
before, try bird watching, doodle or
draw. Another fun suggestion is to join
our hopefully soon to be formed FH
Kitchen Band—no real talent is required, just a willingness to give it a try
and have some fun! In closing, please
keep in mind that it’s in our best interest as individuals to be curious, interested, engaged, participating, contributing, and keeping active at anything
that prevents us from being bored. For
more ideas and information, check out
www.boringinstitute.com or see our
activities staff!
