WELCOME
Here’s a brief story to welcome you to the show this year. In 1989 the first ever PIJAC
Canada show was hosted in Toronto. Little did we know at the time how much the
industry would grow. Pet ownership is stable, families are investing more in their pet’s
wellbeing and animal protection laws are improving. This is all fantastic news, but
let’s not forget the reason we got into this in the first place. Passion for pets. The very
best thing about working in the pet industry was summed up recently by one of our
long time members. When we asked him the reason for sticking with it so long he said,
“Why would I ever want to do anything else?”
This year it is estimated that the Canadian pet industry will reach over 7.4 billion
dollars. Thanks to your hard work and deep commitment to what you do, our industry
has grown and along with that so has the quality of life for pets in this country. Your
actions are proof that animal welfare is everyone’s business. As Canada’s pet trade
association our greatest accomplishment is being able to help you reach your goals
and live your passion, so it is with much pleasure that we welcome you to the Calgary
Pet Industry Trade Show.

Pet Care Training Program
DISTANCE EDUCATION
To further enhance the Pet Care Training Program, PIJAC Canada
has altered the format to ensure unlimited accessibility for all Canadian
pet industry businesses. The Canine, Feline, Reptile, Avian and Small
Mammal Certification Specialties are five of six distance education
programs to be offered by the association.
The program was developed by veterinarians and leading pet industry
experts to train people who care for and work with pets on a regular
basis. Participants who successfully complete the exam will earn a
Certified Canine, Feline, Reptile, Avian or Small Mammal Specialist
Designation through PIJAC Canada.
