With the earthquakes having a continued impact on the built environment not only in Canterbury but also around New Zealand, we have developed this solution guide to showcase how Kingspan Insulated panels can be utilised on both new and refurbishment projects around New Zealand. If you have any questions, we look forward to being able to provide solutions for you. Paul Metcalfe, Director. Kingspan panels are single component, factory (insurance approved) pre-engineered systems. They are made up of a rigid Polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation core which is sandwiched between two layers of metal – one the external weather side, the other a pre-finished internal liner. The result is a single component solution that replaces multi-part construction. Lightweight cladding Multiple profiles, finishes and colour options Single component, single-fix system increases build speed Improves effectiveness of building heating and cooling systems HFC, CFC and HCFC-Free Superior airtightness and weathertightness Guaranteed thermal performance with tested R-values Complete solution including walls, roofs, and controlled environments Ability to flex during earthquakes 5 kingspan envelopefirst™ approach Early planning of the building envelope makes sense. By adopting an EnvelopeFirst™ strategy, buildings deliver an optimal insulation performance, superior airtightness and excellent moisture control. Buildings become more energy efficient and produce less carbon. Our EnvelopeFirst™ energy efficiency approach is a first step strategy for optimising a building’s performance and beginning the route to achieving a reduced carbon footprint. The building envelope and energy consumption must be central considerations in building design. Mercy Place Parkville Residential Aged Care Parkville, Victoria, Australia 6 www.kingspanpanels.co.nz For the NZ summer this means: For the NZ winter this means: Low heat gain from external hot temperatures Low internal heating loss Consistent internal temperature Better efficiency of air-conditioning units Consistent internal temperature Better efficiency of heating and cooling systems Lower building cooling costs Lower costs for building temperature control Protection against hot exterior temperatures Protection against cold exterior temperatures Reduced carbon footprint A more sustainable building with lower carbon footprint solutions: “…building insulation is the most cost-effective solution to reduce energy and greenhouse gases.” thermal performance The excellent thermal performance of Kingspan Insulated Panels can result in energy savings of as much as 30% more than standard, multi-component cladding systems. + Superior R-values Source: McKinsey Global Institute = Airtightness Energy Cost Savings Typical Whole Lifecycle Analysis Embodied Energy (6–8%) Operational Energy (82–86%) Deconstruction (8-10%) Superior R–values Guaranteed Airtightness & Weathertightness Kingspan panels have an insulating core, uniquely designed to guarantee a superior thermal performance in hot and cold climates. It is fitted to the exterior of the building and creates a thermal skin that reduces internal temperature loss and provides a thermal shield against external temperatures. One of the biggest sources of building heat loss or heat gain is due to air leakage. The superior joints on our systems ensure that they remain both air and weathertight over the life of the building. Our factory pre-engineered systems incorporate high precision joints, which create unsurpassed airtight buildings. The closed cellular structure of the insulation provides zero moisture ingress with no air infiltration. This guarantees lifetime thermal reliability, without ageing or degradation. We guarantee: Unlike many multi-component systems, there are no thermal bridges that can drastically reduce thermal performance. Exceptional R-value compliance and reliability Insulation continuity with no gaps or missing insulation Lower energy usage and operating costs Low CO2 emissions Future Proof With Building Energy Rating Schemes now in place in the UK, Australia and other countries, it is expected New Zealand will follow. Designing your building with a high performance envelope will future proof your investment. Majura Park Canberra, Australia 7 solutions: lightweight, strong yet flexible To meet the changing built environment not only in Canterbury but around New Zealand, lightweight buildings can provide many benefits, the significant reduction in weight can reduce the reduce the piling and foundation requirements on many projects, this can reduce costs and speed up the build time, both important considerations for any construction project. Consider replacing the existing heavy cladding (if applicable) with lightweight Kingspan cladding. In some cases this can mean an instant improvement of the building strength rating. 9 solutions: sustainability Vision Our Commitment to Achieving Carbon Neutral, Net-Zero Energy Buildings “To be a global leader in sustainable business and establish a leading position in providing sustainable, renewable and affordable best practice solutions for the construction sector.” Kingspan Insulated Panels creates roof and wall panel systems with proven sustainability credentials that are a key element in delivering Carbon Neutral, Net-Zero Energy buildings.
