Budget Update - It was announced at
the Board of Education Meeting on
April 12th, as a result of the
conversations between the Kaneland
Education Association and the
District, the KEA has agreed to freeze their salaries for the 20102011 school year. This will result in a savings of 1.1 million
dollars from next year’s budget.
Efforts on the part of KEA and the district allow for more
manageable elementary, middle school and high school class
sizes as well as the restoration of all middle school and high
school sports, clubs and activities. Additionally, the 30 teaching
positions that needed to be reduced in Phase II budget
reductions will be preserved.
Please listen to Dr. Schuler’s podcast for complete details. The
podcast, transcript and an updated spreadsheet with the final
budget cuts can be found on our website.

meeting which will honor staff

School News
Blackberry Creek Is On a Roll! - Once again,
Blackberry Creek's annual skating unit has begun.
Skating provides a variety of benefits, which include
balance, coordination, motor skills, and a top-rated
cardio-endurance workout. Students also learn
basic skating skills such as starting, stopping,
forward skating, backward skating, cornering, and a
number of safety tips for being a smart skater.
Seniors - Non-Attendance Days (April 28 and 29) - Wednesday, April
28, and Thursday, April 29, will be non-attendance days for seniors
due to sophomore PLAN and junior PSAE testing. The staff and
administration recommend that seniors use these two days to do
college visitations or to complete any other post-secondary
transitional activities. For further information, please contact Diane
McFarlin at (630) 365-5100, ext. 208. Thank you.

John Stewart Students Take Off Running! - Students at John Stewart Elementary had
the opportunity to sign up for Mrs. Ogden's after school Running Club this spring. This
was a four week fitness program that taught participants the fundamentals of running
(such as pacing, breathing, stretching, and increasing distance) as they trained for a 5K
race. At the end of the four weeks, the club members ran in the Dewey Dash, which
benefits the Town and Country Public Library in Elburn!

And in closing…
One day at a time--this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past for it is gone; and do
not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so
beautiful it will be worth remembering. - Author Unknown

Proudly Presents
Schoolhouse Rock Live! is one of musical theatre’s brightest and most innovative shows. Based on the
Emmy Award-winning 1970’s educational cartoon series, Schoolhouse uses a wide array of musical
styles to teach grammar, math, science, history, social studies, and political science while telling the
story of Tom, a young teacher nervously anticipating his first day on the job. Originally produced by
Theatre BAM at Café Voltaire in Chicago, Schoolhouse has quickly become a favorite of the stage as
well as television.
Presented at Kaneland Harter Middle School, a cast of over 50 students, a crew of 20 more, and several
faculty members combine forces to provide a wonderful night of entertainment!

Matt & Al’s Back in the Swing Tour 2010’
Jazzercise has developed a special partnership with Back in the Swing, an organization that supports breast cancer
survivor programs. The goal of the organization is to get breast cancer survivors back in the swing of life physically,
emotionally and spiritually. A recent study conducted by the Breast Cancer Survivorship Center at the University of
Kansas showed that breast cancer survivors who attended Jazzercise classes over a six month time span lost weight and
improved their fitness levels significantly, thereby putting them at lower risk for breast cancer recurrence. Jazzercise and
its legion of 7,800 instructors worldwide, will hold special Jazzercise fundraising classes in May. All profits will be
donated to Back in the Swing to aid in its growth and promotion of breast cancer survivorship programs. Additionally, all
profits from Back in the Swing t-shirts (avail. in the current Jazzertogs catalog) will be donated to Back in the Swing.
