The information in this directory is for the personal use of club
members and is not intended for commercial purposes. Newcomers
Club does not give or distribute our mailing list to non-members.
Monthly Gatherings
Members come together at 6 pm on the 2nd Tuesday from September to May
for a cocktail party or a dinner. *This year, the October meeting was
switched to the 2nd Wednesday. Cost for these events varies. It is a great way
to meet new friends.

Newcomers Board of Directors meets on the Wednesday after the monthly
meeting at Gruber Aviation at McKinnon Airport on St. Simons Island at
1:30.
Membership and Guest Policies
Membership in Island Newcomers is open to all residents of less than two
years on St. Simons Island or Sea Island. You may be a member for three
years after which time you are encouraged to move on to one of the “After
Newcomers” organizations on the Island. Members joining between
September and February count as a full year of membership. Members joining
between March and May shall begin the three year membership term the
following September. These members will pay half membership dues for the
partial year. Guest(s) of members are welcome to any Club function provided
there is space available following the sign-up of all members who wish to
participate. Members are encouraged to limit the number of times a local
resident is invited to attend as a guest to no more than two times in a club
year. You may complete a Membership Application and pay the annual dues
of $25/person online using the link found on our Homepage or you may
download an Application there and mail it in with your check. Any questions,

Adopt-a-Highway
The Adopt-A-Highway Group meets monthly on a Saturday morning for
breakfast at McDonald’s and then spends a couple of hours cleaning up the
roads around the St. Simons Island Gateway project. Everyone is welcome as
we provide this service to help keep our island beautiful. Ralph Ainger,

Book Club (Day and Evening)
The book club groups meet monthly to discuss contemporary fiction and nonfiction. The Day group meets the first Tuesday of each month at 10 am and3
pm. The evening group meets the first Monday of each month at 7 pm. Lesa

Dining In
Dining In is one of the most enjoyable ways of meeting other Newcomers.
Each participating individual or couple hosts one or two dinners at their home
during the year for about 8 people. In the months you are not hosting, you will
enjoy being guests at the homes of others. The hosts provide a main course and
the drinks along with a theme if desired, and the guests bring appetizer, side
dishes or desserts as assigned by the host. Jennifer Kohlhoff, Chairman
Dining Out
A great way to meet new people, sample different types of food and not worry
about doing the dishes is to participate in Dining Out. Each Newcomer (single
or couple) is assigned to a different group of about 8 people each month. A
designated host plans the group’s Dining Out event with date, choice of
restaurant and type of meal. The host may invite the group to their home for
light refreshments before going to a restaurant to provide an opportunity to get
to know each other better. Meals at the restaurant are “Dutch Treat”. Margy

Golf (18 Hole & 9 Hole Golf)
One of the Island Newcomers most popular activities is the monthly golf
group. Many of us were lured to the Golden Isles and Coastal Georgia by the
excellent golf options, along with the very favorable weather for the sport.
Island Newcomers golf is open to all golfers, regardless of the caliber of their

Great Decisions
Great Decisions uses a briefing book, an introductory video each week and
other materials, such as the Great Decisions Online e-newsletter for further
study of a topic. The group meets for 8 sessions in early winter (Jan. - Mar.)

Bylaws
As Amended Effective April 12, 2011
Article I - Name and Purpose
Section 1.
The Club shall be called the Island Newcomers Club.
Section 2.
The purpose of the Club shall be to acquaint new residents
with people, places and activities of the area.
Article II - Membership
Section 1.
Membership in the Club shall be open to all new residents of
two years or less of St. Simons Island and Sea Island.
A. Visitors are welcome and may attend one meeting
prior to joining.
B.
New residents are welcome to join any time during
the year. Membership is limited to three years.
Members joining between September and February
count as a full year of membership. Members
joining between March and May shall begin the
three year membership term the following
September. These members will pay half
membership dues for the partial year.
C.
Guest(s) of members are welcome to any Club
function provided there is space available following
the sign-up of all members who wish to participate.
Members are encouraged to limit the number of

D. Members who move their residence out of St.
Simons Island or Sea Island may continue their
membership throughout the end of the fiscal year
for which they have paid. No refunds, however,
will be issued on Membership dues.
E.
Section 2.
The annual dues are $25.00 per person per fiscal
year.
The Membership Address database is private and
intended solely for the use of dues paying, valid
and current members of the Island Newcomers
Club.
Section 3.
Membership withdrawal – voluntarily and involuntarily
A. Any member who distributes the Membership
Address database to any business or individual
shall be subject to having his/her membership
withdrawn by written notice of the Board of
Directors and at their sole discretion.
B.
Membership will be withdrawn, by written notice
of the Board of Directors, shall any member be
found soliciting or receiving rebates or refunds or
any other consideration as a result of his/her
membership in or activities on behalf of the Island
Newcomers Club.
C.
Membership may be withdrawn at anytime
voluntarily but there shall be no rebate of annual
dues or refund of any funds related to registration
for events or activities
Article III - Meetings
Section 1.
The General meeting of the Club shall be held on the second
Tuesday of the month except as changed by the Board of
Directors.
Section 2.
The General meeting on the second Tuesday of April shall
be known as the Annual Business meeting and shall be for
the purpose of electing officers, receiving reports of officers
and Directors, and for any other business which may arise.
Section 3.
Special meetings may be called by the President or the
Board of Directors upon three (3) days’ notice.
Section 4.
The majority of members present and voting shall constitute
a quorum.
Article IV - Officers
Section 1.
The officers of the club shall be:
A. President
B. Vice President
C. Secretary
D. Treasurer
Section 2.
The term of office shall be for one year or until their
successors are elected with the term beginning at the close
of the May meeting.
Section 3.
An individual must be a member of the Club to serve as an
officer.
Article V - Nominations and Elections
Section 1.
The Nominating Committee shall consist of three members
appointed by the President and approved by the Board of
Directors at the February Board of Directors meeting.
Section 2.
The Nominating Committee shall prepare a slate of
nominees and present its slate at the March General
meeting.
Section 3.
Nominations may be made from the floor provided the
nominee(s) has given his/her consent.
Section 4.
Annual election of officers & Directors shall take place at
the April Annual General Business Meeting.
Section 5.
Installation of officers shall take place at the May General
meeting.
Section 6.
Vacancies:
A. Should a vacancy occur in the office of
President, the Vice President shall serve as
President until the expiration of the term. If
the Vice-President is unable to serve, then
the Board of Directors shall appoint a
member to serve until the expiration of the
term. Should a vacancy occur in any other
office, the Board of Directors shall appoint a
successor to fill the unexpired term.
B.
Any person who is appointed to fill an
unexpired term of office shall complete the
unexpired term and then be eligible to serve
a subsequent full year’s term.
Article VI - Duties of Officers
Section 1.
The President shall:
A. Preside at all meetings;
B.
Be authorized to sign checks and other such
documents as necessary;
C.
Be an ex-officio member of all Standing
Committees, except the Nominating
Committee;
D. Appoint such ad-hoc committees as he/she
deems necessary;
Section 2.
The Vice President shall:
A. Preside in the absence of the President;
B.
Assist the President as required or needed;
C.
Perform such other duties as pertain to this
office or as requested by the President;
D. Plan and implement the arrangements for all
of the General Meetings for the Club year.
Section 3.
The Secretary shall:
A. Handle all necessary business
correspondence including recording official
minutes, filing reports and answering
inquiries;
Section 4.
B.
Send cards and write correspondence of a
social or official nature as required or
directed by the Board of Directors;
C.
Perform such other duties as pertain to this
office or as requested by the President.
The Treasurer shall:
A. Receive and disburse all funds of the Club as
directed by the Board of Directors;
B.
Be an authorized signer on all financial
instruments;
C.
Submit a financial report at the Board of
Directors meetings and at membership
meetings as directed;
D. Perform such other duties as pertain to this
office or as requested by the President.
Article VII - Board of Directors
The Board of Directors shall:
Section 1.
Consist of the elected officers, Directors and such other
person as appointed by the President;
Section 2.
Meet once a month on the next day following the General
meeting or at the call of the President;
Section 3.
Establish guidelines and set policy annually for conduct
of the Club to meet prevailing conditions;
Section 4.
Transact any business requiring action between General
meetings of the Club;
Section 5.
The majority of Board members present and voting shall
constitute a quorum.
Article VIII - Club Activities
Where the interest of the membership warrants each year, there shall be the
following Club Activities with all Directors elected by the Club. When
appropriate or necessary, Co-Directors may be elected to lead particular
Club Activities. The Director of each Club Activity shall be a member of the
Board of Directors. Activities may be added or removed at the discretion of
the Board of Directors.
A. Island Adventures
i. Submits organized plans for social and educational events for
the members to the Board of Directors for approval.
B. Advertising
i. Solicits advertisers for the Island Newcomers Newsletter.
C. Communications
i. Contacts the membership as needed to inform them of
upcoming activities and scheduled meetings
ii. Prepares and makes available Name Tags for each General
Meeting of the Club
iii. Keeps and maintains the Home Services notebook on local
vendors and the reviews of those vendors for Newcomers use.
iv. Maintains name tags for distribution at General Meetings.
D.
Dining In
i. Appoints and schedules a host/hostess along with other
members to make a party of 8 to have a meal at a host’/
hostess’ home during the months of October through May.
E.
Dining Out
i. Appoints and schedules a host/hostess along with other
members to make a party of 8 to have a meal at a local
restaurant during the months of October through May.
F.
Membership
i. Contacts all prospective and new members;
ii. Greets renewing members and new members at General
meetings;
iii. Compiles membership list and records pertinent membership
information for Club records;
iv. Presents membership figures to the Board of Directors;
v. Arranges for printing of Membership Directory.
G.
Newsletter
i. Prepares monthly newsletter to be e-mailed during the year to
inform members of upcoming activities and scheduled
meetings;
ii. Provides Webmaster a copy of the Newsletter for insertion in
the Club’s website.
H.
Publicity
i. Prepares and distributes publicity about Club meetings and
activities of the Club;
ii. Takes pictures of events and submits them with articles to local
media;
iii. Puts meeting dates and events on the Chamber of Commerce
calendar in coordination with the Secretary;
iv. Serves as Club historian.
I.
Singles and Independents
i. Plans activities for single and independent members and
submits them to the Board of Directors for approval.
ii. Upon approval, develops and oversees the particular activity.
J.
Webmaster
i. Develops and maintains the Club’s website with content as
approved by the Board of Directors.
K. Adopt-A-Highway
i. Organizes volunteers to assist with monthly litter clean up in a
designated area for the Island Newcomers.
L.
Book Club (Daytime)
i. Organizes and oversees the daytime book discussion groups.
M.
Book Club (Evening)
i. Organizes and oversees the evening book discussion group .
N.
18 Hole Golf
i. Organizes and makes appropriate arrangements for men's golf
outings.
O.
9 Hole Golf
i. Organizes golf outings and classes and clinics for ladies golf
P.
Great Decisions
i. Plans, implements and leads the 8 week discussion forum for
Great Decisions
Q.
Ladies Bridge
i. Plans and arranges details for ladies bridge each month
R.
Evening Bridge
i. Plans and arranges for evening bridge each month
Note: All Directors shall document revenue and expenses for their
particular area of responsibility and share that information with the
Treasurer.
Article IX - Fiscal Year
The fiscal year shall be June1 through May 31.
Article X - Parliamentary Authority
The current Edition of Robert’s Rules of Order, Newly Revised, shall govern
the Island Newcomers Club where it applies and is not inconsistent with these
bylaws and any special rules of order the Club may adopt.
Article XI - Amendments
These bylaws may be amended at any General meeting of the Club by twothirds (2/3) affirmative vote provided the amendment(s) has been submitted in
writing to all members, either by U.S. Mail or by electronic-mail, at least two
weeks (2 weeks) prior to the General meeting.
