Students must also successfully complete the provincial Grade 10 Test of Reading and Writing Skills and 40 hours of community involvement activities. Students entering GLCT from outside Ontario are granted credits towards the OSSD for courses they have previously completed in their home country or province. These students are typically able to earn an OSSD within 6 -12 months. A small percentage of students will take a longer time. University Entrance Students wishing to enter university must earn an OSSD that includes at least six Grade 12 Pre-university credits. Students whose first language is not English, must also provide an English standardized test score (TOEFL, IELTS, Michigan) at a level prescribed by each university. The Credit System A credit is granted in recognition of the successful completion of a course that has been scheduled for a minimum of 110 hours of classroom instruction. A credit is granted to a student by the school principal on behalf of the Minister of Education. In addition we take students on buses to visit most of the major universities that are within 2 hours driving time from Toronto. Our guidance staff has developed an excellent data base and knowledge of the undergraduate programs and specific admission requirements for each Canadian university. Guidance teachers meet individually and on a regular basis with students to ensure that they are applying for the programs and universities that will enable them to gain admission to the most appropriate university. As part of our counseling and commitment to the students, we assist them to apply for entrance scholarships and awards to ease the financial burden of a university education. As an added benefit to our students, we arrange for qualified prospective students, at the time they apply for admission to GLCT, to also apply for conditional admission to a specific university and program. When a student is asked by The Great Lakes College of Toronto to withdraw from the college as a result of a disciplinary action, no payment refund will be granted. 2. Students who require additional courses beyond the initial payment (seven or ten course package), or who wish to take additional courses, or upgrade a course are required to pay an additional fee in advance as indicated above. Tuition fee for one additional course/upgrade is CDN $1,450. 3. If a student drops a course, with the Principal’s approval, before the course ‘drop date’ deadline for the semester, the tuition fee for the course will be credited to a later semester. No tuition fee will be refunded. If a student drops a course after the course drop deadline, the full tuition fee for the course will be charged. A Course Drop Form must be completed by the student and approved by the principal. 4. The tuition fee for Canadian and foreign students, with landed Canadian immigrant status, are 70% of the tuition fee for Overseas/Visa students. The remaining fees are the same for all students.
