WEST Palacios Beacon “You have to get control of that property; it’s one of the key pieces of property that you have,” said Sean Garretson president of Pegasus, regarding the for-sale property owned by Gold Coast at the end of Eighth St. behind South Bay Marina. Garretson’s company, Pegasus, is an economic development-consulting firm and land development based out of Austin; who offered free professional advice to the Palacios Economic Development Corporation (PEDC) at its regular meeting last Wednesday. Garretson, knowing the area and having previously reviewed the ‘solid’ waterfront redevelopment concept produced approximately private interested entity/developer and apply a year ago by his ‘friend’ Roy Mann of The a contingency contract, soon, with the current Rivers Studio, stated as a developer he would owners of this desirable redevelopment ask, “What have the public entities committed property. to doing to make “Start identifying this property more someone who would marketable?” be interested in He encouraged locking down that collaboration of property, put a longall Palacios public term feasibility study entities: the City, on it,” said Garretson. Garretson stated one of the main conference centers in the state is located in San Marcos and is prime example of a public/private partnership thriving. The city of San Marcos, the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, and the developer made the numbers work by pledging of sales tax revenue and have created a self-sustaining popular hotel. “I like the idea of using some of the sales tax as an incentive,” said Director DebbieMorris. “We need to get an incentive program.” According to Garretson, the idea of a conference hotel would be a ‘good opportunity’ but the forerunner would be making the improvements, (See PEDC, Page 2) Celebrating Constitution Day at East Side STUDENTS and teachers at East Side Intermediate gathered last week at the flag pole for Constitution Day (Sept. 16). Tax Abatements City Manager David Kocurek indicated there will be a second hearing on Wednesday (Sept. 25) regarding residential tax abatements. At Palacios City Council’s Special Meeting last week, Kocurek indicated anyone in the city limits can request a residential tax abatement application.“Anybody that meets the qualifications, should have that opportunity, it’s a win-win for Palacios; it’s a long term investment for the City of Palacios,” said Council member Gary Hafernick. Regarding the model home to be built by Chipman Construction in Beachside Development, once the tax abatement is processed construction should begin in October. When Council member Judy Chavez asked if any other abatement applications have been requested, Kocurek stated, “Another developer has requested an application,” yet has not returned a completed application. Other Business Mayor Pro-Tem Ed Schulze was appointed to remain the HGAC representative and Council member Andy Erdelt was appointed as alternate HGAC representative. MichaelFloreswasappointed to the Airport Committee. Council approved amending 2012-2013 budget twice to document the increase in revenue from the recycling center grant, which purchased the bailer, and the funding provided by TXDot Aviation to the airport. City continues sales tax record breaking trend BY BRANDI G. WEST Palacios Beacon The Palacios city coffers continue to be on track for a record-breaking year of sales tax revenue. September’s rebate of $83,627 was received earlier this month from the State Comptroller. The September rebate was an increase of 27.63% over what was received in the same month last year, hiking total revenue for the first nine months of 2013 to $648,677. This year to date rebate has surpassed 2011’s total annual rebate of $607,906 and the City is on the way to surpass 2012’s total sales tax rebate of $665,196; which notably was an annual record breaking year in sales tax revenue. This month’s rebates were from sales made in July and reported to the State Comptroller in August. Out of the 13 area cities, comprised of all cities in Matagorda, Wharton, Jackson an d C al h o u n c o u n t i e s ; including West Columbia and Sweeny in Brazoria County, only 4 rebates were less money than was received this time a year ago. Port Lavaca, Sweeny, West Columbia, and Wharton fell short for sales tax rebates for the month of September. FRIDAY Fall beach clean up Sat. at Marine Center Every year, beach goers leave tons of trash on Texas beaches. And even more washes up from the Gulf of Mexico. That’s why Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson is issuing the call for an army of volunteers of all ages to help keep our beaches naturally pristine and safe for all to enjoy at the Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach Fall Cleanup. “We’re looking for a few good Texans to help keep our beaches litter-free,” Patterson said. “Join us on Saturday (Sept. 28), for an enjoyable, memorable event to clean up our coast.” Volunteers may register at check-in sites between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. The Palacios area cleanup will be coordinated by Cynthia Garret (979532-0797 / 979-533-0808) and Mary Kathryn Niccolai (361-972-3773). The TAX were similar with 4 local cities: La Ward, Sweeny, West Columbia, and Wharton are behind 2012’s year to date rebates. State Comptroller Susan Combs said $575-million was rebated to all the sales tax collecting entities in Texas this month, up 2.8% compared to September 2012. “The latest monthly gains were led by sectors such as construction and the restaurant industry,” Combs PEDC Palacios check-in point will be at the Marine Education Center located at 102 Marine Center Dr. in Palacios. Now in its 27th year, 446,000 AdoptA-Beach volunteers have picked up 17 million pounds of litter from the Gulf Coast. To participate, register at www. TexasAdoptABeach.org. Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes, a hat and sunscreen. They will be provided with data cards, gloves, pencils and trash bags. Those who can’t make it on Sept. 28 will have a second opportunity later this fall. A competitive, four-wheel drive excursion, cleanup and treasure hunt – the Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup Expedition – is set for Nov. 2 at Padre Island National Seashore. And year-round, anyone may donate to Adopt-A-Beach online at www.TexasAdoptABeach.org. Sponsorship levels range from $25 to $25,000, tax-deductible. The cleanup does more than simply remove litter from the beach. Data collected from previous Adopt-A-Beach cleanups played an important role in the passage of an international treaty (MARPOL Annex V) restricting the dumping of plastics in the world’s oceans. In 1991, the International Maritime Organization prohibited the dumping of trash, except for finely grounded food scraps, into the Gulf of Mexico. Shell Oil Company is the lead sponsor for the 27th Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach Fall Cleanup – one of the most successful all-volunteer efforts in the nation. Other sponsors include HNTB, Apache Corporation, Cameron International Corporation, Cheniere Energy, Flint Hills Resources, Halliburton, Schlumberger, and the Ocean Conservancy. (Continued From Page 1) said. Totals for the 12 other area cities, listing this month’s rebate, a year ago, percentage of change in parenthesis, year to date, 2012 year to date, percentage of change in parenthesis, were as follows: Bay City, $426,903, $364,202, (17.21%); $3,465,167, $3,404,311, (1.78%). East Bernard, $34,178, $20,735, (64.83 %); $233,430, $184,835, (26.29%). Edna, $90,437, “I think that is one of your roles.” John Chipman indicated Palacios’ needs to improve on its marketability by having something to draw people down here. “We have birds, the best seawall (besides Galveston and Corpus) on the Gulf Coast, the airport, 3 fresh water rivers, one fresh water lake, every kind of hunting you could imagine, if we could just get the right group together with package deals” for these types of recreational activities along with a conference room. As Mike Strotheide, Executive $88,730, (1.92%); $890,981, $812,885, (9.60%). El Campo, $267,836, $265,242, (.97%); $2,616,037, $2,551,480, (2.53%). Ganado, $51,766, $43,266, (19.64%); $433,840, $303,245, (43.06%). La Ward, $649, $437, (48.45%); $4,117, $5,119, (-19.55). Point Comfort, $22,886, $9,015, (153.87%); $111,985, $75,497, (48.33%). Port Lavaca, $185,803, $195,158, (-4.79%); $1,860,045, $1,775,438, (4.76%). Seadrift, $12,867, $11,686, (10.10%); $99,943, $94,254, (6.03%). Sweeny, $24,925, $32,342, (-22.93%); $255,734, 294,939, (-13.29%). West Columbia, $57,507, 70,191, (-18.07%); $536,891, 554,489, (-3.17%). Wharton, $159,640, $161,885, (-1.38%); $1,504,742, $1,629,262, (-7.64). (Continued From Page 1) Director of Matagorda County Economic Development has indicated at previous meetings, Garretson stated, “It’s a matter of all the entities getting on the same page and commit to doing this.” Palacios according to Garretson is a ‘hidden gem’ and ways to attract investors are as simple as universal and legible road signage and also have public entities committed to investing. “There is so much opportunity here in Palacios and it is very exciting to be part of it, but I think we need to make the step forward to make sure it happens,” said Strotheide. Mary Crocker indicated Palacios needs growth and change and said, “Several of us, myself included, that chose to come to Palacios because it is so peaceful and the people are so friendly. So we (PEDC) needs to capitalize on our (Palacios’) strengths but protect them and “keep in mind the flavor that is Palacios.” Compatibility is key to the type of growth and keeping the charm Palacios offers. “All the entities have to realize that if we don’t help our self it’s going to be out of our control. That property (Gold Coast property) is the perfect example, because that (industrialization) would ruin our waterfront,” said Morris. Bruce Webb indicated “The focus is putting all these entities together and start meeting in order to get everyone to the table” weigh out the advantages and disadvantages with a formulated plan “in order to attract these developers.” Other Business PEDC appropriated $2500 to support the Matagorda County Economic Development Corporation and participating in Platinum Plan with Site Location Partnership to market Palacios, with representatives from the PEDC board, at national trade shows. Strotheide considers this investment, “Money well spent.” PEDC approved a request for funding of Seaside Holiday and appropriated altogether $2000: $1000 of which was a Trull Foundation Grant and the additional $1000 to promote the event through advertising. Funding was also approved to be a premier sponsor at $1500 for the Annual Bayfest Chamber Foundation cook-off. PEDC approved a $1000 grant to support the Fishermen’s Memorial. This is the non-denominational ‘destination tourist attraction’ which is an open armed statue of Jesus Christ along with fishermen located in Turning Basin 3. The idea originated from the business owner of Gulf Bay Marine, Tuyen Viet Vu, along with other local fishermen commemorating the lost fishermen at sea and in thanksgiving of the for all that is harvested from the sea. “The industry is a big part of this community; it defines this community in many ways,” commented Morris. Only one funding request was declined due to PEDC funding criteria not matching the request by the Youth Football League. PALACIOS BEACON Area Briefs Gonzales Co. taking tax searches to web GONZALES: County Commissioners approved a $64,128 contract with Cogniserv of Irving to ease tax record searches. The current manner of searching tax records, for the past several decades, is in binders that are withered and suffering wear and tear. “The old tax records are kept in the county annex building on Sarah Dewitt Drive and they are kept in these huge blinders that weigh like 40 pounds a piece,” said Gonzales County Tax Assessor-Collector Crystal Cedillo. Cognisev will scan all the pre-existing tax records back to 1968 and place them in a searchable website database; research will be made public by the click of a mouse. - The Gonzales Inquirer Five-term Co. Judge retires BELLVILLE: Having served 20 years, five terms as Austin County judge Carolyn Bilski announced she will not be seeking a sixth term. “But after a prayerful consideration, I will not be seeking an additional term in the 2014 primary,” Bilski said. Much was accomplished during Bilski’s tenure; the county’s General Fund has increased from $55,000 (the first year Bilski was in office) to totaling $3 million. Also Bilski commented about the numerous accomplishments some of which include: the numerous water and sewer grants have been awarded to promote safe water, the restoration and expansion of the historical jail museum, the State Highway 36 expansion, and the Homeland Security grants funding state of the art communication equipment for local and regional first responders. – The Banner Press Newspaper Free immunizations at Health Fair WHARTON: Sivells Elementary School had a firstever health fair hosted by Community Health Choice featuring everything from dental screenings, blood pressure monitoring to free immunizations. The immunization aspect was crucial due to all students needing to be current on immunizations before attending classes. Christus Community Health Ministries administered the shots in a mobile unit all provided free though federal funded Vaccines for Children (VFC). All kids 18 and under qualify for the immunizations. Immunizations are not inexpensive, the meningitis vaccine alone runs around $125 without insurance. “We are trying to serve the underserved,” said Registered Nurse Tara Martin. According to Principal Ethel Garrett, “We are restoring the faith of parents in our schools.”- Wharton Journal-Spectator Widow still fighting for husbands benefits EL CAMPO: The decision of whether Nikki Araguz, born as Justin Graham Purdue (a male), is the widow of fallen Wharton volunteer firefighter and should be able to receive his death benefits was to be decided in a Corpus Christi appeals court. The marriage occurred in Texas and under Texas law, marriage must be between a man and a woman- as defined at birth. Thomas Araguz III died in the line of duty on July 4, 2010 and his death benefits have not been distributed due to city of Wharton denying the claim. Nikki Araguz has lost the argument for widowhood multiple times: 329th District Court, the Texas Department of Insurance’s Division of Workers’ Compensation and the appeal. Earlier this month Nikki Araguz tried to get married to another man in Harris County but the Clerk’s office denied the license request.- El Campo Leader News Caring Is Our Calling! From the Police Chief By Police Chief David Miles This week has seen a tremendous increase in burglaries. Some have been residential and some have been businesses. Very few people have any type of protection, such as alarms or video equipment. This is not a real terrible investment with the technology of today. What is really bothering me, is the person that is buying this stuff, whoever it is probably knows it’s stolen. It’s kind of like your neighbor doesn’t care. I am real sure we will catch this burglar and I’m going to try real hard to catch this person buying the stolen property. • Burglary of a habitation: Officers dispatched to 700 block of Ritchie at 1:09 p.m. on Sept 16; theft > $7000: jewelry, money, and firearm. • Credit/debit card abuse: “Walk-in” at police department at 3 p.m. on Sept. 17; abuse against elderly. • Burglary of a habitation: “Walk-in” at police department 4:31 p.m. on Sept. 17; electronics stolen < $1,500. • Juvenile problem: Officer dispatched to 1000 block of Ritchie Ave. at 5:46 p.m. on Sept. 17; juvenile released to parent. • Burglary of a building: Officers dispatched to 200 block of Henderson at 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 17; restaurant door damage. • Burglary of a habitation: Officers dispatched to 1100 block of Ritchie at 8:07 a.m. on Sept. 18; < $8,000: consumable goods, tools, and fishing rods and reels. • Burglary of a building: Officers dispatched to 100 block of 11th St. at 8:25 a.m. on Sept. 18; report taken. (Contributed Photo) ‘When Sean Speaks’ offers advice to PHS, PJHS students Palacios Junior High and High School students attended a presentation in the Fine Arts Building on September 17. The 1 hour presentation, “When Sean Speaks”, features Sean Carter and his mother, Jenny Carter. Sean Carter was a student at Midwestern State University majoring in Business Administration when on March of 2005, he was a passenger in a truck driven by a college friend who was drunk. As the truck spun and slammed into a tree, Sean’s journey began. Sean suffered multiple fractures, internal injuries, but worst of all a traumatic brain injury. Sean is now well down the path of his new life. Although he has forgotten how to walk and talk, Sean continues to make progress. He suffers no obvious cognitive deficits and has immediate rapport with everyone he meets. Sean and his mom, Jenny, have a powerful message that they share with others. They speak frankly about the circumstances and choices that Sean made that placed him in a wheelchair unable to talk or walk. This presentation was vital to our students’ understanding that Sean represents each student. He could easily be any one of them. The presentation was sponsored by the Pilot Club of Bay City and was followed by a 5 – 10 minute question and answer session. More information on Sean can be found at his website. http://whenseanspeaks.com/ Sharky’s Angels Drill Team will be hosting a Mini Dance Camp for girls ages 3 – 12 on Saturday, October 5th from 9 a.m. – 12-noon and will also perform during halftime on Friday, October 11th. (1Kings 19:11-13 NKLV) The He said,” Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in the mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. And suddenly a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing Elijah?” So many times we think of hearing from God and we envision a booming voice or some kind of miraculous display of wonder and power. There probably isn’t one of us reading this that hasn’t longed to see that massive display of aweinspiring power while He was speaking to us in a still , small voice? Hearing that still small voice might seem like a tough thing to get used to a first. It can take a bit of getting use to in this noisy world we live in. So many things vie for our time and attention. But learning how to hear God is worth every bit of the effort associated with it. And once we “Get It” we’ll wonder how we went so long with hearing Him. Let’s learn to listen for his still, small voice. It’s truly awe-spiring. Y.S., Jr. 832-964-7601 Palacios ISD Administration building. Members answered roll call by answering the question: when is a woman a lady? The answers were varied, but most agreed that a woman is a lady when she approaches life with a gracious demeanor. The program presented by Leigh Ann Roemer, Jo Ann Schneider, and Deb Smith, told of the life and times of Martha Washington. We learned of her joy in opening her home to friends and family, and her ability to make others feel welcome. She supported her husband's administration, but didn't like some of the restrictions it placed on her ability to entertain. The Tigers fell behind early 22-0 in the first quarter, and the Indians were on the attack. “We started off slow and got into a big bind,” said Fiala. “We had too many mistakes and turnovers which cost us the game.” The Tigers put points on the board for the first time in 2013 on a 15-yard touchdown strike from Isaac Ibarra to Isiah Morales. Tigerettes pick up win Van Vleck runs wild on JV Sharks 41-25 Mental mistakes costly for Tigers in 10-7 loss to Ganado Indians BY RYAN WEST Palacios Beacon-Edlitor With inclement weather staring in their faces, the Tidehaven Tigers stood toeto-toe with the Ganado Indians; but in the end it was costly mental mistakes that proved the downfall for coach Brent Mascheck’s Tigers. With Tidehaven and Ganado knotted up at 7-7, the Tigers’ homecoming heartbreak came when Ganado booted the game deciding field goal with two minutes left in regulation. “Again the total team effort was good,” said Mascheck,” but again it was not for a lack of effort, but execution and not taking care of the little things.” “It’s a frustrating loss, because we are beating ourselves with silly mistakes. We can’t keep blaming our youth for these mistakes, we have to eliminate them for us to become a playoff team.” “I told the kids after the game we left everything out on the field. The Tigers held the Indians to 116-yards passing and 180-yards on the ground. Offensively the Tigers were their own worst enemy. “We had nine penalties and each one was huge for us,” remarked Mascheck. “We had drives going and a penalty would end up hurting us.” The Tiger offense was powered by junior Eric Villareal, who caught four passes for 20-yards and rushed the ball for 14 times for 90-yards and Tidehaven’s lone score in the third quarter. Tidehaven QB, sophomore Brandon Litzau finished the night 7-16 passing for 63-yards and was picked off two times. He also rushed three times for 14-yards. Also notching carries for the Tigers were: Nathan Galvan, 2-10; Jason Fitzgerald, 3-8; Brandon Brune, 1-6; and Cameron Riojas, 1-2. While Villareal snagged four of Litzau’s passes, Hunter Saha had one reception for five yards; Nathan Galvan caught one pass for 10-yards and Fitzgerald had one catch for 27-yards. For Mascheck and the Tigers, this week’s contest is even tougher, as the Tigers are slated to host the defending Class-2A DII champions, the East Bernard Brahmas at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 27) in El Maton. P.M.FRIDAY FRIDAY Palacios Beacon SHARKS Bagby’s feelings must have still been hurt this past Thursday at the junior high and junior varsity games in Palacios as Bowden said he refused to walk across the field and shake any Shark coaches hands after the conclusion of the contests. Bagby’s cry-baby behavior carried over into Friday’s pre game. When the Sharks arrived at the stadium on Friday, Bagby refused to allow the Sharks to use any onsite facility to get dressed and forced Palacios to bus the Sharks 2-blocks to the Van Vleck Gym to get dressed for the game and then bus back. Bagby’s warped mind continued to confound Bowden and the Sharks when the whistle blew for halftime. Again, instead of having a facility on the grounds available for the Sharks to take refuge from the weather, Bagby forced the Sharks to sit underneath the goalposts. “You don’t do that to somebody,” said Bowden. “That’s fine if you want to send us over over there (2 blocks away at the gym) to dress. But when we get to the stadium, you give us access, like the weight room (a mere 20-yards away from the playing field and within the stadium grounds). “He wouldn’t even let us in there at halftime.” Palacios Beacon - Wed., September 25, 2013 Page 11 PORTS (Continued From Page 12) Bagby only relented on allowing the Sharks usage of the weight room, once there was lightning close enough for the game officials to mandate a 30-minute mandatory lightning delay and send both teams off the playing surface and to seek shelter. Bowden said Bagby’s antics were”ridiculous, completely ridiculous.” “I can’t find another coach to say anything good about him.” While the unprofessional and immature actions of Bagby stole the show, there were still two quarters of ‘scrimmage’ that did happen, although what happened in the game really never happened according to the record books. The game, ahem scrimmage, wrapped up after two quarters of play with the Leopards clinging to a 13-6 lead. It appeared the game couldn’t have started any better for Palacios. The Shark defense was in a frenzy to start the game and forced the Leopards back 10-yards on their opening drive and into a 4th and 20. On the attempted punt, the snap sailed high over the head of Van Vleck’s punter, who attempted but failed to field the ball, only to have Palacios’ Kenny Garcia knock the ball away and into the end zone. Palacios’ Chris Deleon hopped on the loose pigskin for a Shark score. Alfred Aparicio’s PAT sailed wide of the uprights, but the Sharks were up 6-0 with 9:32 left in the first quarter. Palacios’ lead was short lived for on the first play from scrimmage, Van Vlecks’ Montrell Brown darted 47-yards to answer the Shark score and knot the game up at 6-6. The PAT by Dean Bagby gave the Leps a 7-6 edge on the Sharks. Two possessions later, the Sharks were again on the move - thru the air, on the ground, and driving deep into Leopard redzone territory. On third and ten from the Leopard 14, Shark QB Cameron Sides was picked off by Van Vleck’s Freddie Durrance. The Leopards made the most of the pick and turned it into six points following a 7-play, 79-yard drive that was capped by a 19-yard run by Brown. On the PAT, a bad snap forced Leopard QB - holder Dean Bagby into an incomplete pass. With 11:42 to go in the first half, the Leopards extended the lead to 13-6. The remaining time before intermission was marred with penalties for both teams. Once the whistle blew to head into the locker rooms, not one more play would be run by either side. “I was not happy with our overall performance” said Bowden. “The same story of we’re still maturing on offense and more self inflicted wounds.” “We didn’t play clean,” remarked Bowden. “We didn’t take the fight to them fast enough.” With the Shark offense still a work in progress, Bowden continues to preach patience. “We’ve got to have more time. We’re not there yet on offense and we need to work out some kinks.” For Bowden and his Sharks, this week’s open date can perhaps supply the needed time for his Sharks to work out said kinks. When they retrun to the gridiron on next Friday (Oct. 4) the Sharks play host to the Stafford Spartans in Palacios’ 2013 Homecoming game. The Sharks upended a Spartan squad that went two-rounds deep in the Class 3A playoffs on their home turf, 24-14 last season. (Beacon Photo by Ryan West) Sharks get unsportsmanlike treatment in cancelled game in Van Vleck BY RYAN WEST Palacios Beacon-Edlitor SHARK defender Carlos Valdez executes a form tackle to perfection as he pinnedthe Leopard ball carrier against the sidelines and forced him out of bounds. (Beacon Photo by Ryan West) Thanks to mother nature, last week’s meeting of the Palacios Sharks and Van Vleck Leopards was a short one. At least short in the sense that only the first two quarters of the game were completed. Looking at the whole picture, the Sharks and Leps had a 24-minute scrimmage that lasted from the 7:30 p.m. kickoff until Van Vleck’s head coach Greg Bagby, finally conceded to the inevitable arrival of the thundering force of Mother Nature. And just to add a little salt to the wound, Bagby refused to finish the game. Shark head coach Brad Bowden said the decision to not finish the last two quarters of the game on the following Saturday was ‘completely on coach Bagby’. Bagby’s reasoning to Bowden, was that he “needed to get ready for district”. “I wanted to finish the game,” said Bowden. “I told him (Bagby) we’d play anytime on Saturday. Said if we’d start at 10 a.m. we’d be done by noon, 1 p.m. at the latest. Then he’d have the rest of the weekend to break down film.” Despite Bowden’s plea, Bagby’s refusal to finish was firm. “I guess he doesn’t like to work Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon,” remarked Bowden. “But your a coach, that’s a part of it.” The decision by Bagby left Bowden and the Sharks frustrated and disappointed. “He (Bagby) let his kids down, his community down and sabotaged our chances to improve.” While Bagby’s classless actions at the end of the contest were perplexing and frustrating, it’s what happened before and during the ‘scrimmage’ that had Bowden fuming. Earlier in the week, Bowden caught Bagby redhanded trying to obtain game film on the Sharks from previous opponents while avoiding Bowden’s calls to swap game films, as is the traditional norm for high school coaches. When Bagby’s attempts to obtain game film on the Sharks fell thru, he dialed up Bowden, who had no qualms calling Bagby out on his unsportsmanlike conduct.
