Five teams of Bethel Park High School students competed at the first-ever Big Data Jam,
with one team finishing in Second Place—Jason Harnack, Stephen Ervard, Dylan
McKenna, Billy Ruschel, Logan Tuite, Liam Wolf and Brock Zekany.
The students did extensive data research and presented their findings on the topic, “The
Correlation between the Return on Investment vs. the Type of Investment” and looked at
eight randomly selected Pittsburgh communities to determine the impact of issues such as
residential property values vs. the number of parks, and property values vs. crime rate, to
name two of their areas of research.
By participating in this event, the BPHS students had an opportunity to visit
several high tech Pittsburgh companies and were mentored by employees at
General Dynamics. BPHS Teachers Lee Cristofano, Jill Simpson, Emily Smoller
and Linda Broderick worked with the students.
