A J.N Plant Selections, LLC & Bailey Nurseries, Inc. Technito® has the same dark green, burn resistant foliage that has made Techny so popular in the upper midwestern U.S. It maintains a dark green color throughout the winter. Technito® matures to about three-quarters the size of Techny. Technito® is useful as a low maintenance hedge or screen or as a vertical accent in foundations and borders. Technito® is ideal for smaller, urban lots. The Techny is 16’ tall by 8’ wide. The Technito® is 12’ tall by 6’ wide. Neither plant has been sheered in the last 20 years. Technito can be sheared to a globe form (pictured below) with minimal effort. Technito® is easy to grow, thriving in a variety of soils. It prefers even moisture to its roots and needs full sun to partial shade to excel. Like Techny Arborvitae, Technito® has no serious insect or disease problems with which to contend, though protection from winter deer browsing is required if they are present. Technito® was discovered by Michael Yanny in 1989 at Johnson’s Nursery. Technito® is a patented plant with a trademark name. It is co-owned by J.N. Plant Selections, LLC and Bailey Nurseries, Inc. and is being marketed through the First Editions™ plant introduction program. Licensing from First Editions™ is required to propagate Technito®.
