Lord God,
At the beginning of this new term, teach us to be your hands where we are..
At the beginning of this new term, teach us to love as you love us…
At the beginning of this new term teach us to pray for those in need…
At the beginning of this new term, help us to support and nurture each other
as we grow in knowledge and life’s experiences..
Amen
Welcome back to term 2. We hope that all families have had a restful few weeks and that the
children are ready to be back at work.
We hope that the Easter season brought each person an opportunity to reflect a little on life and
renew their commitment to spending time in nurturing their own faith.
As usual this term will be another busy one. We are off on camp next week with grade 5 & 6 and
Confirmation is to be celebrated in 2 weeks. We look forward to once again taking every
opportunity to work with families throughout the term to best support every child’s learning.
Our grade 5/6 camp is coming up at Anglesea next week. We trust that all children are
coming along for this fantastic experience. Whilst on camp the children will experience
great activities such as mountain bike riding, giant swing activity, canoeing, have a surf
lesson at the beach as well as many other fantastic experiences.
Please try to have camp paid for by the time we leave. Camp is $210 this year. The school is
sponsoring every child to ensure that we keep the cost as manageable as possible.
Please see Rob if you are having difficulty with this expense.
Camp is from Monday – Wednesday next week. April 22nd – 24th .
ANZAC DAY
Please keep in mind that Thursday April 25th is ANZAC Day. This is a public
holiday and there will be no school on this day…. Note that this is only next week….
Sacraments are a part of our Religious Education Program.
Every year we celebrate the special sacraments of the church as part of the normal Religious Education Program at the
school. We are privileged to be able to help the children and families prepare for these sacraments and we celebrate them
throughout the whole school.
As a Catholic School we prepare the children for the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation.
It is important that all children in our school know what these sacraments are, even if their families are not Catholic. It is
also important that as Catholics we are informed about the religious traditions of other families in our community who are
not Catholic.
We are a very diverse community at St. Theresa’s. In our school we have representatives of many different faiths including;
Catholic, Hindu, Anglican, Orthodox, Buddhist, Greek Orthodox, Muslim as well as Other Christian denominations. This
is a great opportunity for us to learn with and from each other as we work to strengthen our faith and understandings of
where God is in our lives. The three sacraments that we prepare for in schools are:
First Reconciliation. This sacrament is received when children are in grade three. This is a sacrament where children
are encouraged to express their sorrow for the things that they do that are not what Jesus has taught us. We help the children
to come to an understanding of what is right and wrong and how they should treat others. We support them in making
peace with God and with those around them.
First Eucharist or Communion. This sacrament is also received when the children are in grade 3. The children
have the opportunity to share in the mystery that we celebrate where Jesus’ body and blood are shared. This is a sacrament
that remembers the events of the Last Supper when Jesus shared his last meal with his disciples and promised them that He
would continue to be with them every time they shared the bread and wine that we share at Communion.
Confirmation. This sacrament is celebrated in grade 6. The Bishop visits to celebrate this
sacrament with the children. Our school is celebrating this sacrament on Sunday April 28th at
10.30am in the church. All members of our community are invited to come along and share
this celebration with the Bishop and the children. This sacrament gives each child the chance
to confirm their commitment to their faith for themself.
The children in grade 6 who are receiving this sacrament visited the Joephite Heritage centre
in the city to help them prepare and Bishop Vincent Long is coming to visit our school on
Thursday morning to meet with the children as part of their preparation.
There is a parent meeting tomorrow night at 7.00pm for all parents and children in the Confirmation
program. This meeting will be facilitated by Fr. Elio who is experienced in supporting families in
preparing for sacraments. This is an important night, please join us if you are involved in this with the
grade 6 children.
Thank you to all families who made the effort to join us for the Twilight Sports during the last week
of school last term. The children really seemed to enjoy the afternoon and the atmosphere was fantastic.
Thank you to all the helpers who jumped in and made the day such a great community activity.
The District Cross Country will be on Friday April 26th from 9-12. We will be organising our team over the next week or
so. Congratulations to all of the children who have made the effort to train with Laurie over the past month during their
2
lunch breaks.
Kinda Kinder is back and starts tomorrow morning in the Multipurpose Room. Kinda Kinder is a joint
initiative between us and Victoria University. A group of student teachers from the Uni will run the
program every Tuesday morning in the Multipurpose room from 9-10.00am.
There is no charge for the program.
All members of the local community are very welcome to come along. You do not have to be a
St. Theresas’ family to join in this activity. It is open to children from 0-5 years.
If you know of any families in the area who might like to come along to this program just pass on the
details and we will see you at school.
Please know that parents / guardians are required to stay here during the program.
Congratulations to all and many thanks for your support with the Easter raffle.
The raffle was very successful and you helped us to raise $614 which will help with our
landscaping projects that are on the way. Thanks to your generosity and the help of many parents who
wrapped the prizes we were able to draw out over 60 prizes which was just fantastic. Winners were;
