2015 SUMMER CAMPS AND RETREATS
CAMP PENN
A note from the Director of
Camp & Retreat Ministry
Dear Camp Friends:
I am delighted to share with you the exciting
programs that the Camp & Retreat Ministry staff
have created for you, your children, and your
family for 2015. This brochure shares with you
all the events that will be happening January
through December. It is my hope and prayer you
will stay connected or reconnect to the Camp &
Retreat program this year, as some wonderful
things have been planned.
The Camp & Retreat Ministry program of The
Susquehanna Conference provides a safe
environment for children, youth, and adults
to experience Christian community. Whether
you receive Christ through a camp or retreat
experience or whether you come for growth,
renewal, or reconnection, the Holy Spirit is
waiting for you.
Camp is helping children and youth to prepare
for adulthood. They learn to work as a team
within their family groups. They learn resilience.
Daily they are making decisions as to how
they will spend their time — from what they
will eat, to the activities in which they will
participate. They learn to try new things in a
safe environment. These are all ways that are
helping children and youth grow in their faith.
We look forward to serving you at one of our
Camp & Retreat sites in 2015.

WELCOME FRIENDS!
Camp Penn is located in the southern part of Pennsylvania
near Waynesboro. Across from Old Forge State Park, it is
on the southern edge of Michaux State Forest. Camp Penn
offers dormitory style housing with single beds and adjoining
bathroom facilities. The Craft Shop, Canteen, and Pool
are popular features at Camp Penn. Dedicated deans and
counselors provide a strong spiritual journey for all that are
ready to hear God’s Word. Sharing, growing and relaxing in
this mountain setting opens one up to hear what our programs
have to offer without the electronic noises of today. What we
do best is to offer these seeds of faith in an atmosphere of fun
and laughter in a safe and secure place. Please come and join
us at Camp Penn this summer and start creating memories
and building friendships that will last a lifetime.

Sharing faith, having fun
and making friends! It’s no
wonder these awesome
campers and counselors
can’t wait to spend a week
together - the fun never
stops! Campers quickly make
friends while playing sports
and games, learning new
crafts and skills, swimming,
singing, fishing, dancing,
hiking & more. Campers are
in age appropriate family
groups for the week, and
also in daily Interest Groups
of their choosing; exposing
them to a variety of campers
and counselors. Our goal is
to show God’s love to each
child and introduce them
to a forever-friend, Jesus.
Camp’s GREAT! Registration
begins at 3 p.m. Sunday;
camper pick up time is 5 p.m.
Friday.
Our mini-camp is a great
camp experience for kids
who have completed first,
second, or third grade.
Swimming, group games,
crafts, hiking, small group
learning experiences,
outdoor worship, singing,
and much s’more will be
enjoyed by the campers.
Campers will arrive on
Sunday afternoon and
become part of a small
cabin group, which have low
camper to counselor ratios.
The fun keeps growing as
together they discover the
wonders of nature, the joy of
new friendships, and have
an opportunity to worship
God and know God more
fully. Experienced, fun loving,
faith-filled role models will
help them learn about the
love of Jesus with this year’s
theme “Get Real”. From
start to finish, they’ll be
shouting, “Camp’s Great!”

GRADES 1-7
JULY 19-24
Welcome to Camp Survivor!
During this week we combine
the concept from the popular
TV show “Survivor” and
learning about God’s creation
around us. Campers will
be split into “survivor group
tribes,” where each camper
can earn points for the team.
Points are earned through a
combined effort, individual
participation or as a tribe
group. There will be evening
challenges that could get
messy or are different...but
all will encourage teamwork,
creativity, and fun! Campers
will have the opportunity to
lead worship services and
small group devotions, if they
desire. Please join us as we
discover God’s word and
discover this week’s theme
of “get real.” Do you think
you can survive our week?

Everything God has created
is special in His eyes,
including us. On the 6th day
God looked at all He had
created and said, “It is good.”
At camp you will learn how
to survive in God’s beautiful
forest, make a shelter, hunt
for food and water and tell
time by the sun. We will also
be studying animal tracks,
plants, trees, and learning
how to take care of our earth
and how the earth can take
care of us. God has created
all of this because He loves
us with all His heart. The
week will also be filled with
our favorite activities such
as archery, swimming,
hiking, volleyball, Bible study,
singing and s’mores around
the campfire. We invite you
to join our Camp Penn family
for a week of adventure and
memories! Registration will
begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday

CP14 CAPTURE HIS LIGHTPHOTOGRAPHY
GRADES 7-12
JULY 26-31
Learn to see God’s world
through a camera lens! Using
a camera to document the
incredible world that God
gave us is the goal. This will
be a photography learning
experience that will leave you
wanting more! In the end, you
will create and then digitally edit
your photos on the computer.
Parents and friends are invited
to see your photos at our endof-camp Photo Exhibit. Many
creative shoots are planned
(sunrise hike, studio lighting,
night stars, day trip landscape
shoot), and you will learn a lot
of cool tricks to expand your
creativity, and capture unique
images. Michelle Peters,
professional photographer,
and Dave Poole, photography
enthusiast, have over 50 years
combined experience as Camp
Penn volunteers, so a lot of the
usual camp activities will be
incorporated into this special
week too… campfire, swimming,
games, Bible study, and worship.
We will have it all! Limit 20
campers. Camper is REQUIRED
to have an 8mp+ digital camera
to use for the week. This event
begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday and
ends at 5 p.m. on Friday.

Dress Code
Children, youth and adults participating in the Susquehanna Conference

calling as children of God.
Do not pack clothing that is immodest or that displays offensive language
or images. For girls, no short shorts, no bare midriffs, no halter tops or
spaghetti straps. For boys, no sagging pants, and shirts must be worn at
all times unless at the pool/lake or playing water games.
Appropriate attire at the pool/lake is a one piece bathing suit for females

In discussing potentially inappropriate apparel with a person wearing it,
care and sensitivity will be taken. In all cases, the discretion of the Director
