September / October 2015 Dear friends Given that September was tourism month and spring is blossoming in the valley we invite you to visit Buffelspoort to experience the natural beauty of the Magaliesberg range, registered on the 9th June as a World Bio-sphere Reserve by UNESCO. “Named in about 1840 after Kgosi Mogale, chief of the Bapo, the Magaliesberg is an area of exquisite beauty, unique natural features, rich history, and abundant biodiversity. Among tumbling waterfalls, forested kloofs and golden savanna is a spectacular diversity of wildlife – birds, mammals and plants. They share the ancient landscape with rock etchings of past hunter-gatherers, stone walled dwellings of pre-colonial cattle farmers and the crumbling fortifications of the tragic wars of our past. Touring and recreation opportunities are unrivalled in the Magaliesberg and whether your ancestry is Tswana, Nguni, Boer or British, you will find your roots and heritage in the scenic spectacle of these mountains.” By Vincent Carruthers author of the book The Magaliesberg now on sale at the Buffelspoort Valley Tourism and Information Offices Hammerkop Kloof Lutheran Church in the historical town of Kroondal www.buffelspoortvalleyinfo.com Between Pretoria and Rustenburg lies the Buffelspoort valley that at this time of the year is fragranced with the sweet smell of citrus blossoms.
