Paula Flores Statement My work is an Extraction of certain aspects of indigenous and mestizo cultures of Latin America and representing them with modern and traditional materials. Depicting part of the history of the people who are born within these cultures. Indigenous cultures have gradually changed since the arrival of European colonies to the American continent. Many cultures remained untouched or with little contact from the occidental culture for centuries, now with the globalization process and expansion of internet use; cultures have started to change and adjust. It has been a gradual process, but as time passes by more and more cultures change in order to survive in the modern world. Some traditions are lost, some are modified and new ones are created. In my work I depict this process by using both traditional and modern materials combining them with concepts and aesthetics belonging to indigenous groups.
