Under Moore’s leadership, the Royals built one of the best farm systems in baseball en route to winning the 2015 World Series in the club’s second consecutive trip to the Fall Classic, and first World Series championship since 1985. That was following the club reaching the postseason for the first time in 29 years as they won the 2014 American League championship by setting a Major League record with eight-straight wins in the playoffs. After the 2014 season, the Royals were selected as the Baseball America “Organization of the Year” for just the second time since the publication started the award in 1982, and Moore was awarded the “Executive of the Year” by Major League Baseball (GIBBY Awards) as well as the Kansas City Sports Commission. The names of the cheerleaders from each school are included in the program and each is assigned a number so the judges can identify them when they are introduced at the beginning of each game, just prior to the introduction of their players. This honored group of cheerleaders is chosen on the basis of enthusiasm, poise and performance by a special committee, which will be in attendance at all sessions. Results of the judging are not disclosed until Saturday night when the winners are given special recognition at the conclusion of the tournament. 50 • TOC All Tournament Cheerleaders 2015 Hannah Harrold………………………… Dodge City Andre Thomas………………………… Wichita North Jasmine Kennedy…………………………… Derby Shandel Koehn………………………… Dodge City Salma Martinez……………………… Wichita North Michelle Lewis……………………………… Derby Sydney Kalscheur……………………… Dodge City Zephra Santhiapillai………………… Wichita North Kami Blankman………………………… Dodge City Sierra Lyons……………… Shawnee Mission South TOC • 51 DUNBAR FARMS 52 • TOC TOC • 53 CEA-7501-A-A1 Championing the cause to GO DEMONS Tournament Of Champions Melanie L Harshberger Financial Advisor . 2000 N 14th Ste A Dodge City, KS 67801 620-338-8186 Wes A Owens Financial Advisor . 100 Military Plaza Suite 108 Dodge City, KS 67801 620-227-7178 Lloyd Davis, CFP® Financial Advisor . 210 E Frontview Suite B Dodge City, KS 67801 620-225-0651 www.edwardjones.com Member SIPC 54 • TOC TOC • 55 Dodge City High School DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS www.dchssports.com | @RedDemonSports Tamie Preston – District Activities Director and TOC Tournament Director Tamie Preston has served as the Tournament of Champions Tournament Director for the past sixteen years. Tamie is retiring at the end of the school year after thirty-one years as a teacher, coach, and administrator at USD 443. Tamie graduated from DCHS in the Class of 1980. She went on to play tennis collegiately at Kansas State University, where she completed her degree in education in the spring of 1984. After graduating from K-State, Tamie returned to Dodge City to teach and coach. She was named the DCHS Head Tennis Coach in 1988. Tamie began her career as an elementary PE Teacher, and also served as an elementary principal at Linn Elementary before accepting the position of Athletic Director at Dodge City High School in 1999 - replacing long-time AD – J.C. Riekenberg. Tamie’s father - Bill Peugh (a longtime teacher and coach at DCHS) is credited with teaching Tamie (and her sisters) how to play the game of tennis, and was masterful at developing an aggressive winning attitude that continued to exhibit itself in his daughter’s competitiveness – and life. Both Bill and Tamie’s mother Pat (a DCHS Business teacher) were instrumental in developing the character displayed by Tamie over her impactful career with USD 443. Tamie’s impact on the TOC has been both impressive and meaningful. As she works behind the scenes, she has elevated the tournament’s already prestigious reputation for making the tournament about much more than just basketball. She has worked tirelessly to give the TOC the professional, organized, and well scripted feel that the community of Dodge City enjoys today. Finally, TOC girls (past and present) would like to thank Tamie for her leadership with the young ladies that comprise the TOC Committee – your legacy will continue for many tournaments to follow. 56 • TOC
