We have had some very cold temperatures this past week. Students need to be dressed appropriately for the weather each day. Students should have coats, hats, gloves, boots and snow pants. Thank you for your help with this. Stay warm Just a reminder… With the holidays quickly approaching many families are planning to travel. If your family will be leaving for vacation and your children will miss school days make sure to send a note in to the office prior to the absence. Cadott Elementary Dress up Days Next Week All Staff & Students who would like to participate in Dress Up days next week. Tuesday is Red and Green Day Wednesday is Ugly Sweater Day Have you visited artsonia.com to see your child’s art yet? Artsonia is an online gallery we have been using for three years to display the students’ masterpieces. Last year Cadott was ranked in the top 100 in the U.S. and top 10 in the state based on our participation! By searching our school or typing in a child’s username you can see their many art works made for the past three years. Post comments and invite family/friends to be in their fan club to receive emails when new art is posted. They love to read these in art class. Children’s art makes the best gifts, so check out the gift shop and help our school earn 20% of the sales! http://www.artsonia.com/schools/school.asp?id=20407 PACE Book Winners Winners for the week ending December 18: Preschool–K-1: Lucas Bourget - Kindergarten – Mrs. Hanson Grades 2-3: Danika Holler – Grade 3 - Mrs. Nowak Grades 4-6: Emma Gilbert – Grade 6 – Mrs. Nitz Congratulations Readers! HORNET HEALTH TIP: It’s chapped lip season! Children often lick their dry lips, but this makes them more and more chapped. If needed, please send Chap Stick or other lip balm to school. Call the school nurse with any questions. HORNET HEALTH TIP: Please, when choosing school boots for winter, DO NOT purchase boots with heals. It is impossible for kids to safely play with these boots. They are extremely slippery on icy spots and hazardous on playground equipment. There are student injuries every winter due to unsafe footwear. HORNET HEALTH TIP: Remember to label your child’s coats, boots, hats, and mittens as we get ready for the winter season. Then we can return lost items to the rightful owner. Thanks! Custodian's Corner: Just three more days of school before winter break. Can you believe it? Wow, the school year is going fast. When you come back the school will be sparkling clean. I thank you all for helping me keep it that way. And when I see you, let me know how your Christmas went. Did you get that new Ferrari? Enjoy your time off, be safe. See you real soon. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. In addition, Scholastic Reading Club will match each dollar of Patterson’s donation with “bonus points” that teachers can use to acquire books and other materials for their classrooms. Cadott Elementary was selected from 27,924 applications for funding grants. As part of an ongoing effort to keep books and reading a number one priority in the United States, bestselling author James Patterson, together with Scholastic Reading Club made a commitment to help support school libraries nationwide. This year alone, Patterson personally donated $1.75 million to school libraries nationwide, with grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 allocated to each of the 467 selected schools. “These grants are my humble acknowledgement of some of the terrific work taking place in libraries,” says Patterson. “Here’s to communities supporting school libraries. Here’s to a country that makes reading a priority. Here’s to flourishing libraries and to a joyful holiday season!” Cadott Elementary first grade teacher, Penny Lien, along with support from librarian Nick Kotek applied for the grant. They are both passionate about reading and want to see our current summer reading program enhanced. “The students grow so much in their reading during the school year, and I want to see continued growth during the summer,” states Mrs. Lien. We are so thankful for the generosity of the Patterson/Scholastic Grant Program. In the first-ever partnership of its kind, Patterson joined forces with Scholastic Reading Club to administer funding applications to their network of 62,000 schools and 800,000 teachers. Applicants were asked to fill out an online application posing the question, “what would your school library do with $1,000 to $10,000?” The full list of grant recipients is available online at www.scholastic.com/pattersonpartnership. Any U.S. school with students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade was eligible for a grant.
