Spring 2016 - Precious Lamb Preschool
NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION U.S. POSTAGE PAID LONG BEACH, CA PERMIT NO. 1144 Mailing Address: Precious Lamb Preschool Breaking the cycle of homelessness, one child at a time. Spring 2016 A Family Transformed 2005 Palo Verde Ave. PMB 301 Long Beach, CA 90815 562-243-1715 EIN #95-4772800 Xochitl has been a part of our Precious Lamb family since 2012, when her daughter Bianca joined our school. Sister Jen followed in 2014. During that time, Xochitl was completing a Drug and Alcohol treatment program and working hard to reconcile several areas of her life. It was not without a good lot of tears, determination, failures and wins (including a rough 3-day detox in one of our school’s spare rooms) that Xochitl was finally able to kick her addictions and reunite her family. ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED Since leaving our school, Xochitl and her family moved to the Dream Center, a Christian transitional housing program in LA. There her family has found further stabilization and the resources toward independent living, including Xochitl receiving her GED last Fall! Xochitl has just began a full-time job in their Development Department, fundraising for the Dream Center, making calls and praying over supporters. In this she finds fulfillment and challenges, but her ultimate goal is to be a public speaker sharing her inspiring story to motivate others, to share God’s love and pass on hope. Join us for our 3rd Annual Art Gala and Auction at Summit Aviation Hangar overlooking Long Beach Airport. Featuring original artwork by students of Millikan High School and Biola University, the night will also include a large auction, food from Sideyard Café, drinks, and live music. All art sales and proceeds will benefit Precious Lamb Preschool programs. Xochitl’s story of hope and faith is inspiring, and not over! She is one of many parents here at Precious Lamb we have had the joy to walk alongside through life’s struggles and successes. Her oldest daughter just recently moved back in with her, reuniting a family grateful and humble before God. Please continue to pray for Xochitl and her family, and all those we serve or have served at Precious Lamb, a community of resilient people whose lives have been redeemed by God’s love. FOLLOW US: preciouslamb_lb Precious Lamb Preschool preciouslamb_lb On February 8th, Precious Lamb celebrated fourteen years educating and caring for homeless children in Long Beach. Our first day welcomed 3 children. To date we have served over 350 children! With a supportive donor and volunteer base, and the best teachers, staff, and Board of Directors, Precious Lamb has been able to sit in the front row witnessing growth, grace, and healthy change in our students and parents alike. With the addition of a second classroom for toddlers, PL has been able to serve so many more families, and we are excited to see what God will do with the expansion of a third classroom by next year. Christmas Time at Precious Lamb This past Christmas was an exceptionally special season at our preschool. All month long our classrooms were blessed with visits from businesses, schools, churches, and families that included photo shoots, crafts, story time, meals, and a puppet show. Our children were blessed with gifts collected by nearly 20 individuals and groups, ranging from books, clothing, shoes, stuffed animals, and toys as well as items for parents too. Nearly $1,500 was collected in gift cards, and members of The Garden Church donated 40 family baskets valued at $100 each. In the News Save the Date: Business Network International Golf Tournament benefitting Precious Lamb, Saturday, June 11th at 1pm. 18 holes/3 par at Heartwell Golf Course. Thanks to the generous grant through ECF of Boeing Long Beach, our preschool class was able to purchase new phonetics and math-based curriculum that has enhanced the learning environment and allowed teachers to take quantifiable data, tracking children’s conceptual understanding. The grant also allows our teachers to attend the California Association for Education of Young Children (CAEYC) conference where they will learn the latest skills, tools, and trends in early education. There are new exciting and easy ways to support Precious Lamb. As Long Beach Community Foundation members we can partner with community-wide like-minded organizations as well as benefit from professional fund managers and accept real estate, gift annuities, and all other donations. We are also members of the Amazon Smile program, and if you’re a Thrivent Financial member you’re already enrolled in their Choice Program, which actually gives you money to donate to your favorite charity. Boeing, Centennial, and many other employers have employee-based giving programs as well. Ask your employee about theirs! Through generous toy donations we were able to hold our first ever “Christmas Store” where parents could buy gifts for their children for a small price and gift wrap them while enjoying coffee, tea and snacks together. It was a big hit amongst our families and a fun time of fellowship. This past Christmas also saw our largest Family Christmas Party to date, with 160 people, including 31 individual families and 70 kids, gathered in our gym for a delicious potluck-style dinner, crafts, Christmas carols, and a visit from Santa Claus himself! Thanks to over 40 volunteers who helped facilitate a smooth event, everyone had a great time!
