They probably wished the roads were constructed as well as our trikes have been, but roads are not. That’s why it would be fair to say that such a distance, along with what has been chalked up by all other Greenspeed tourers and commuters worldwide, amounts to ‘real world’ product testing. We don’t build toys here at Greenspeed. Our designs are superior in their quality and ease of ride, their strength and simplicity. They cater to all sorts of people and cover a large range of uses. We construct our trikes with the best materials. We source parts for their reliability and workmanship, we fashion and produce accessories so that you can use your trike everyday and in a multiplicity of ways. So while your next ride might only be to the corner store or around the lake, you’ll know that the pedigree of your trike can get you anywhere. 2 front cover: ian wood text & design: mick sims editing: lian salamanca & ian sims 3 Another ideal use for Anura is to couple or link two (or more) of them and ride in tandem. 4 In just two years Anura is now one of the world’s best selling delta-style of tricycle. Its primary goal was to focus on the challenge of enticing you back into cycling or cycling more often. For some it saw you cycling for the very first time! wheels. The differential powers both rear wheels for better hill climbing and riding on ice, whereas the disc brakes provide superb stopping power. Anura does this by providing two things. First, the superior comfort of a plush seat and ergonomic light-action steering. Second, a higher seating position so you wouldn’t feel as vulnerable on the road as you might on a lower recumbent trike or, for that matter, on a bike. For 2009 Anura’s differential has been redesigned to take a standard Shimano style splined cassette which means we can give you a wider gear range. Built to complement rather than to compete with the existing delta market, this wellbalanced trike comes standard with a rear differential and disc brakes on all three Our RL model is set up as a 27sp derailleur model and the SL model comes standard with Schlumpf drive, featuring two widely spaced gears in your cranks. They make for a superb gear range plus simplicity! Anura has a full range of accessories so you can use it to commute, to exercise, to go shopping or touring. This is a great way to encourage others to get out there and ride with you, particularly those less able or less confident. You simply take the spare front wheel with you or part ways with the flick of two levers. 39 - 63 º 39 - 63 º 26.4" / 670mm 26.4" / 670mm 53-67"/1364-1700mm 53-67"/1364-1700mm 17" / 430mm 17" / 430mm 6.5" / 165mm (bars) 6.5" / 165mm (bars) 11' 10" / 360cms 11' 10" / 360cms Removable seat & separable frame Removable seat & separable frame Avid BB5 cable disc Avid BB5 cable disc Formula DC-20 Formula DC-20 Greenspeed disc Greenspeed disc Stainless steel 14g Stainless steel 14g 16 x 1-1/2" 16 x 1-1/2" Jetset CH-11 Jetset CH-11 Open / 32 / 26 - 349 Open / 32 / 26 - 349 Scorcher Scorcher 40 - 349 40 - 349 SunRace R90 Schlumpf speed-drive 170mm 52 - 42 - 30t 38 - (63)t SunRace R90 n/a SRAM 11 - 28t 9sp SRAM 11 - 28t 9sp SunRace R90 SunRace R90 KMC HG - 53 w/link KMC HG - 53 w/link Dura-ace bar end Dura-ace bar end Black plastic toeclip Black plastic toeclip none Schlumpf easy-shift levers 27sp 18 - 80 g" 18sp 23 - 97 g" 18.1kg / 40 lbs 18.1kg / 40 lbs 136 kg / 300 lbs 136 kg / 300 lbs Prowheel Pioneer 152mm Shlumpf speed-drive 160mm 48 - 38 - 28t 34 - (56)t SunRace R90 n/a * Weight limit for Anura is accumulative of rider and luggage. 5 The gt-series II is top of its class for ride and easy of use. 40 º 40 º 40 º 29.5" / 750mm 29.5" / 750mm 29.5" / 750mm 39" / 975mm 39" / 975mm 39" / 975mm 9.75" / 250mm 9.75" / 250mm 9.75" / 250mm 2.6" / 66mm 2.6" / 66mm 2.6" / 66mm For many, the gt’s most popular feature is its foldability. Altogether the x-series offers the best of many worlds-- a strong, light and fast sports trike that will rattle neither your fillings nor your nerves. This is the vehicle that has brought back that ‘trike grin’ to the face of many a veteran triker. A test ride is a must! n ow Sh 8 A cross between the extreme slr race trike and a folder, the x-series trikes use cambered wheels (i.e. the front wheels lean inwards at the top) and extra caster to give a ground-hugging ride. A lower 30°-angle seat places you in a more streamlined position for extra speed. Also, some find this position more comfortable because bodyweight is better distributed across the back. The rear 16” wheel makes for a more compact trike and beefs up lateral strength to withstand harder cornering with a fuller load without losing stability. 50 - 39- 30t Black plastic toeclip Black plastic toeclip Flag Flag Flag 27sp 19 - 94 g" 27sp 19 - 94 g" 27sp 19 - 94 g" 15.9 kg / 35 lbs 15.6 kg / 34.3 lbs 15.1 kg / 33.3 lbs * rider weight limit 265 lbs / 120 kgs Sugino DX 152mm 44 - 34 - 22t Shimano Deore /T 265 lbs / 120 kgs 265 lbs / 120 kgs Sugino DX 152mm TA Carmina 155mm 44 - 34 - 22t 48 - 38 - 26t Shimano Deore LX /T Shimano Deore XT /T * Rider weight limit refers to the rider’s actual physical weight only. Each one need put in only as little, or as much, effort as one wishes. Tandem tricycles offer great stability and allow the riders to run the cranks out of phase for silky smooth pedaling with no dead spots. The gtt2s tourer features two S&S Machine couplings which allow the frame to be divided in half for easier portability. Split links separate the timing chain and da Vinci cable splitters divide the cables. The more versatile gtt5s features removable seats and a frame that splits up into three pieces. This season we are giving you the added option of installing an independent coasting system (ICS), using da Vinci Designs’ independent drive. Having an ICS means that either the stoker or the captain can take a break while the other keeps on pedaling. This is useful for repositioning yourself on the seat, grabbing something out of the pannier bag, swapping bottles, 12 taking photos or just taking a break. 40 º 35.5" / 900mm 7' 6.5" / 2289mm 11" / 280mm 3.5 / 90mm 20' 5.5" / 622cms 2 S&S couplings Magura hydraulic Optional disc Greenspeed disc SRAM DualDrive S/S 13 Rear 14g Front 20 x 1.75" Jalco disc style Box / 36 / 26 - 406 Tioga Comp Pools 47 - 406 Sugino RD-7000 53 - 42 - 30t (42-42) Shimano 105 /T 11 - 34t 9sp Shimano Deore SRAM PC - 951 Dura-Ace bar end+3sp Black plastic toeclip Rack/Flag/R.fender/Mirrors 81sp 13 - 128 29kg / 64lbs 120kg/265lbs : HD 180kg/395lbs 80 kg/175 lbs : HD 120 kg/265 lbs * Rider weight limit refers to the rider’s actual physical weight only. Glyde is here to take you well beyond the boundaries of any other vehicle. Glyde is a hand welded, aircraft grade cromoly space frame wrapped in a fiberglass shell. This offers you protection against the elements and safety from accidents. Glyde’s aerodynamic body, which was developed over 16 years with Reflex fairings, makes it around TWICE as efficient as a standard bike and around 60 times more efficient than most cars. Glyde rolls on 16” front wheels and a 20” rear. The small front wheels give an incredibly tight turning circle and the 20” rear provides for derailleur clearance. The vehicle’s exceptional handling is provided by suspension on all 3 wheels, our scorcher tires, and dual Avid front disc brakes. The handle bars are a push/pull style giving you the most control, easy access, and minimum intrusion on cabin space. Inside you are completely sealed from the front and rear wheels, making for a quite, clean ride. You have clean storage space behind the seat, and in front of and behind the front wheels. Using the forward storage spaces can actually improve the handling of the vehicle rather than hinder it. Glyde’s seat features the mesh, full ergo curves as found on our other tadpole trikes. It adjusts easily between riders in a matter of seconds with no tools needed, so it is great for multiple riders in a family, community or work situation. Glyde has a SRAM DualDrive 3sp internal hub fitted with an 11-28t cassette and a 5242-30t chain ring set up front giving a range of 15-123gear inches. Using a standard drive-train system, you can opt for many other choices, like a Rohloff 14 Speed Hub or a Schlumpf drive. Options will include, mirrors, turn signals, almost any style of front lights, most styles of axle mounted commercial trailers, convertible style rain cover hood or fully enclosed bubble, electric assist systems with 200, 350 or 500watt motors. We are also working on a full in-board electrical system including a GPS. 14 We have developed a real alternative to the car, so come and see if you too could be living the dream. 15 The SLR Low Racer is the world’s fastest production trike. 20 degree seat angle, 23-5/8” (600mm) track width with cambers wheel and a 4” (100mm) seat height make for seat of the pants racing action. Sporting a 16” rear wheel gives the frame a much stiffer, precise feel in cornering and powerful straight line pedaling. The 16” wheels also make for a lighter trike, with less wheel inertia for a much faster take off. The GTH hand cranker is built just as tough as the rest of our trikes. It has been designed to go just about anywhere. The GTH carved its own neich into the hand cycle market by having the drive wheel at the back. The steeper the terrain gets, the more grip you get. This makes it idea for dirt roads and steeper, wetter terrain. To cover this, we fit our GTH with a 54speed gear system as standard equipment giving a massive range of 9 - 74 gear inches. Our special handles have been designed to give no finger interference with the axle, are width adjustable, and also offer a few different positions to help break up the monotony on long rides. Particularly popular are our tow hitch racks so that you can take your wheelchair with you. 16 The GTE Expedition trike is the choice for real expeditions. The GTE’s longer wheelbase helps to accommodate large touring loads and the integrated 4 bag pannier rack means that you don’t need to leave anything behind. Featuring a heavy duty frame and tandem rated wheels, along with our standard 81sp touring drive-train, the GTE is ready for all your touring needs. The GTU utility trike is our real work horse. Available in a number of configurations like no tray, tray only, tray and sides for a soft top, or tray and sides for hard lockable lid, and available in a number of different capacities. The GTU has a good amount of advertising space, making great for commercial ventures, especially in an expanding eco-conscious world. We fit the GTU with tandem size disc brakes and any configuration of drive train and 17 it can also be used with electric assist. At Greenspeed we are never content to rest on our laurels – we have a policy of continuous research and development. In 1993/3 Val Wright and Eric Butcher toured 15,000 kms right around Australia, on our GTR trikes. In 1997/8 Jeff McLean, used our 1st model trike, the GRT 20/26 Tourer, built in 1991, to tour from Vietnam, all the way through Asia and Europe to the UK. These epic expeditions proved not only how comfortable our trikes are over long distances, (Jeff AVERAGED 109 kms per day) but also how reliable they are, due to our outstanding engineering. We then further developed these designs to produce the gto, with its separating frame, and the gt folding frame series, so that these trikes could be easily transported, when necessary. In 2006 we designed an entirely new model, the Anura. This machine extends cycling to people unable to ride other types of bikes or trikes. Then this year, 2009, we have introduced our 1st production velomobile, the Glyde. This machine is more than TWICE as efficient as normal bikes. 18 Via this process customers and dealers alike have had a ball ‘building’ the perfect trike for themselves. If you’re the kind of person who knows exactly what you want in a trike or can visualize this ideal, then you should really give this a go. Just download the PDF order form from our website (or phone us to request one) and work your way through the myriad of options available to you. In between these major achievements, are many, many improvements, all to numerous to mention. Increasing use of stainless steel for most fittings. Chiropractic re-design of our seats. Design and development of the NSR steering geometry, the scorcher tires, and power assist systems. So while other trikes may look similar to ours, we strongly advise anybody buying a trike to have a proper road test on a number of different trikes, so that the differences in comfort, performance, handling and quality can be appreciated. Established in 2006 as an exciting innovation in purchasing, our 3-step ordering process has proved a great success among trike aficionados! In particular we suggest you should check out how comfortable the machine is to ride and operate, and easy and natural the machine steers and brakes at high speed. One should also make sure that that all the accessories you need for everyday triking fit well and work well. Triking should be a most enjoyable experience! With this new concept you don’t need to start by choosing a model. Instead you go directly through the range of options outlined for each of the various components and features of a trike. The options are explained, one by one, throughout the order form. Who knows, by the end of it you may have become a trike expert yourself! Choose a seat with the angle with which you would be most comfortable. Then choose your frame style. These basically determine the model of your trike. Take your personal measurements (as prescribed in the order form), and then select an appropriate wheel size and track width. Note that no 20” wheels are available for folding trikes. Nominate your preferred colors. Then determine which components and accessories will best serve your intended uses. You have now put together the perfect trike for yourself! This season we have added even more options for parts and colors. Among these, the most exciting new feature available at the Custom Shop is the NSR steering facility. This is the steering that has bestowed on Greenspeed’s gt-series II its reputation as the safest-handling trikes. 19 seatangle One of the most important, albeit easy, things you must determine is your preferred seat angle. Depending on how far back you wish to recline, the curve of a seat changes to afford your shoulders maximum support. frame style fixed At Greenspeed we don’t use adjustable seats (except on Anura); as in general, fixed seats are stronger and lighter. Your options here are seats angled at either 30° or at 40°. The 30°-angle seat means a faster seat, as you are more streamlined and your weight is distributed more evenly across the seat. The 40°-angle seat is generally more popular for commuting and touring. Frame style mostly relates to a trike’s transportability. A fixed frame cannot be dismantled or taken apart. It has a sleek integrated look and is lighter than other options. The folding frame has a removable seat and the rest of the frame folds into itself; this is ideal for quick dismantling. The coupled frame, on the other hand, has the removable seat but the frame actually splits in half (as in the legendary ‘gto’), providing more packing options. This is a new dimension we offer options on. All our models have been designed for inherent stability. If, for example, a trike is narrower than usual at the front, then for balance it would normally be either longer at the back and/or lower to the ground. Now that we offer different widths within a model group, you can pick the one to suit your needs. Either wide for touring, load carrying and extra- hard cornering. Or narrow to facilitate transportability and 20 clearing of doorways, gates and bollards. frame sizes sml std lrg steering type x-seam (inches) rider weight limit 750 or 800 750 or 800 yes no yes yes no yes cambered xover non-xover 36-49 42.5-52 no limit no limit folding 16” 750 or 800 yes yes no cambered xover 36-49 265 lbs S&S coupled 16” 20” 750 or 800 750 or 800 yes no yes yes yes yes cambered xover non-xover 36-49 42.5-52 330 lbs 440 lbs fixed 16” 20” 750 or 800 750 or 800 yes yes yes yes no yes NSR xover non-xover 36-49 39.5-51.5 no limit no limit folding 16” 750 or 800 yes yes yes NSR xover 36-49 265 lbs S&S coupled 16” 20” 750 or 800 750 or 800 yes yes yes yes no yes NSR xover non-xover 36-49 39.5-51.5 330 lbs 440 lbs for comfort trackwidth track (mm) 16” 20” for speed framestyle model wheel size You can now find the NSR steering on the gt7, gto-16 and gtr-16 models available through the Custom Shop. These combinations not only provide solid steering, but also yield the advantages of 16” wheels, such as strength, fast takeoff, lightness of weight and feel. A frame’s ‘rider weight limit’ refers only to the rider’s physical weight. You do not need to include your luggage in this figure. Because the luggage is carried over the rear wheel and transfers different stresses to the frame, it is considered in a different manner to the rider’s physical weight, and is only limited by the weight rating of your rack. 21 wheels oll r Wheel size is linked to frame size, so your x-seam leg measurement matters here. And why not? Color reflects personality. It expresses style, attitude, even aspiration. Our powder coater applies this rare extra-hot layer that creates a thicker coat of paint with a tougher finish. So if the frame of your trike does take a knock, the damage is more likely to be a small dent than splintered paintwork. Greenspeed have received compliments the world over for this exceptional finish! We have a rainbow of colours to choose from in our classic colors. Different to all the colors in this range, the super matt black is actually a textured paint with a rough sandpaper-like finish that reflects light from a wider surface area, rendering it almost grey. In the Crystal range, we use two types of undercoat which shine through the translucent topcoat. You may choose between the standard metallic silver or the new gold. The metallic undercoat effects a dualism of brilliance and depth; the gold adds a touch of class. Colors available on our seats are shown at far right (facing page). The seats themselves are fashioned from an exceedingly durable plasticcoated polyester mesh. It is one of the toughest yet most breathable fabrics on the market. A reflective ‘GS’ badge is sewn onto the top of the seat for extra visibility.
