John Deere 7760 Cotton Harvester From the worldwide leader in cotton harvesting equipment comes the next revolution in cotton production: the John Deere 7760 Cotton Picker with on-board module-building technology. Non-Stop Cotton Harvesting: Coming soon, only from John Deere. The John Deere Advantage The new 7760 gives you everything John Deere cotton pickers are known for: a clean, high-efficiency pick from the PRO-16™ and PRO-12 VRS™ Row Units. Smooth, reliable power from the John Deere turbocharged diesel engine. An operator-friendly cab with easy access to major controls. But what the 7760 offers that no other cotton harvester can match is this: the ability to pick virtually non-stop. No stopping to unload. No crossing the field to get to a module builder. No waiting for boll buggies. No time wasted getting back on the row. The 7760 gives you a perfectly formed and wrapped module that you can drop in place or carry to an end-row, all while continuing to harvest. The non-stop cotton harvest...coming soon, only from John Deere. Read on for more information. Whether it’s falling from the sky or being wicked up from the ground, water is a chief enemy of rectangular cotton modules covered with tarps. The John Deere 7760 gives you a module that not only sheds water due to its round shape, but is also covered around its entire circumference with a tough, protective wrap, giving you an exceptionally high degree of weather-ability and helping preserve the fiber quality you worked hard to achieve. John Deere 7760 Cotton Harvester Take a look in your equipment shed. Think about what those module builders cost. And the boll buggies. Think about the number of tractors you need to run it all. And how much fuel they use. Add labor and insurance, and you have a good idea of what your harvest costs are, just in miscellaneous equipment. The economics of non-stop harvestin g What can the non-stop harvesting ability of the 7760 Picker do for you? If your harvest usually takes four weeks, the 7760 could help you finish up to five days earlier. Now consider the 7760. No module builders. No buggies. No tarping. A significant reduction in labor and fuel. Right there are thousands of dollars you don’t have to spend. Stage or load your round modules with the Frontier CM 1100 Round Module Handler. This loader mounts on the rear of your tractor, and makes handling the 7760’s round modules easy. But there’s this, too. A basket picker can spend 20% or more of its time unloading, waiting for boll buggies, or driving back and forth to a module builder. With its non-stop harvesting ability, the 7760 Picker gives you that time back. What is that time worth? Your John Deere dealer can help you decide. Value Statement goes here – Our standard lighting package is very good, too. It includes two 55/65-watt low-beam In addition to its inherent water-shedding ability, the round shape of the completed modules enables the non-stop harvesting ability of the 7760 Picker. How? Once you’ve picked enough cotton, the module-forming system on the 7760 Cotton Picker takes over. While you continue to harvest, the 7760 automatically forms and wraps a module, then deposits the completed module onto the retractable rear handling gate. You can then carry the wrapped module to an end-row or other staging area and drop it without ever stopping the picker. The wrap ‘magazine’ on the 7760 Picker holds up to four rolls, giving you enough wrap for up to 100 round modules. With only slight modifications to the conveyor chain, existing module trucks can easily pick up, haul, and unload up to four wrapped round modules...the equivalent of one full-size standard module. John Deere 7760 Cotton Harvester Non-stop harvesting requires all-day comfort. So we gave the 7760 Cotton Picker the comfort, convenience, and control features to reduce fatigue and enhance operator environment during the longest harvest days. The pressurized cab itself features our set-and-forget ClimaTrak™ Automatic temperature control, as well as the plush ComfortCommand™ airsuspended seat. The standard training seat lifts to reveal a storage area for miscellaneous items. The cab is prewired for two-way radio, and features the Delco AM/FM satellite-ready sound system with CD. The new CommandCenter™ display serves as the primary operator interface, and first source for machine information. Hot-key navigation takes you through screens displaying information on settings, alarms, and diagnostic information. Just in front of the display, the multifunction control handle and CommandTouch™ console offer control over machine speed, row units, module builder, Row-Trak™ guidance and more. Finally, the CommandTouch™ cornerpost monitors display engine RPM, harvest information, and Value Statement goes here – module-builder status. Our standard lighting package is very good, too. It includes two 55/65-watt low-beam Non-Stop Comfort for the Non-Stop Harvest. Convenient control with the CommandCenter Information at a glance The CommandTouch cornerpost display gives the operator an assortment of readings, including engine RPM, harvest monitor, and module-builder status. Out of the way. Easy to see. The GS2 2600 Monitor with the HarvestDoc™ Cotton system handles yield monitoring and mapping functions. The monitor provides information such as total acres harvested, average yield, harvest hours, load weight, distance covered and more. Plus, the monitor and the StarFire iTC receiver can be moved to your tractor, sprayer or combine. The standard remote allows the operator to put the machine into and out of transport and harvest modes quickly and easily. Tethered row unit lube system is standard on every John Deere cotton picker. The all-new CommandCenter display and CommandTouch console give the operator unprecedented control over vital machine functions, as well as easy access to information. The display offers information on alarms, diagnostics, and more. The console features controls for fan and row unit engagement, lubrication system, Row-Trak guidance, row unit height and response rate, moistener system, and more. 10 9996 Cotton Picker If you want a basket-type cotton picker, but still need the fastest harvest you can get, take a look at the 9996 Cotton Picker...the most productive, most efficient basket picker we’ve ever built. Start in the engine compartment. With 350 horsepower and a 9.5 percent Power Boost for unloading, the 8.1-liter PowerTech™ engine delivers plenty of muscle for the demands of a 6-row machine in heavy-yielding cotton and tough conditions. Plus, the engine is transverse mounted, freeing up valuable space for the moistener system, lube and fuel tanks. An available factory-installed powered rear axle gives you better grip in muddy or hilly conditions, while the 200-gallon fuel tank and 345-gallon water tank keep you in the field longer. Out front, the PRO-16 Row Units offer a high-efficiency pick, even at speeds of up to 4.0 MPH, or second-gear speeds of up to 4.9 MPH. With the Row-Trak guidance system, you and your operators are picking at top speed with ease and comfort in dense, heavy-yielding cotton, all while Row-Track handles on-row steering. The 9996: Built to run strong, acre after acre An 8.1-L PowerTech ™ engine delivers 350 acre-taming horsepower that boosts harvesting performance in high-yielding cotton and difficult field conditions. Plus, a 9.5 percent Power Boost (up to 383 hp) provides extra power when compacting cotton. What’s more, the frame design and transverse-mounted engine ensure efficient use of this raw power. The 9996 Picker’s lower overall weight and well-balanced design allows it to perform at a higher level than heavier competitive models that require extra power. Talk about strength! With 7x7-inch row-unit lift arms and a massive all-welded chassis, the 9996 Picker offers ample backbone for six row units, big basket loads, and rough harvest conditions. Notice the transverse-mounted engine. John Deere engineers located the water, lube, and fuel tanks at the rear of the machine, greatly reducing front-axle weight. The excellent weight-tohorsepower ratio, weight distribution, and dual tires (standard on 6-row machines) result in outstanding flotation, unmatched maneuverability, and unrivaled ride quality. Six standard forward-facing lights help provide 360-degree lighting for nighttime harvesting. A light inside the basket illuminates the entire area. The optional lighting package adds two field lamps and two sidefinder lights. Large self-cleaning rotary screen saves time, labor. No need to manually clean the screen at each dump. The hydro module contains the hydrostatic, hydraulic, and water pumps, as well as batteries and onboard lube remote-fill outlets. All are easily accessed from ground level. Independent hydro systems assure full power to the picking units and ground drives. Eight-inch dual spacers offer true 38-inch centers. No more running the front tires over beds. Massive, single-reduction final drives have the muscle to handle 42-inch duals. 11 Get your crop from field to module builder faster and easier 12 9996 Cotton Picker High-capacity PRO-Series™ Row Units need a high-performance loading and unloading system. So we designed the 9996 with the air control, basket lift and unloading components you need to pick, pack and dump heavy, high-yielding cotton. High-capacity conveying. The fan rotor delivers plenty of airflow to handle the conveying load of six row units. Plus, the transverse-mounted engine design let engineers relocate the fan for improved air distribution and outstanding conveying efficiency. High-capacity basket. You also have plenty of capacity – 1,400 cubic feet with standard basket lid extension. And a new, automatic compacting system packs in more of your crop to extend on-row time. What’s more, the basket screen pattern provides greater strength and improves screen-to-frame fit. High-capacity unloading. The PRO-LIFT™ basket also offers an innovative unloading system. The basket raises at an angle as the door lowers, giving you excellent stability and letting you put the basket right where it’s needed. Plus, lift frame members are stronger, for increased machine stability and operator confidence. 13 The moveable duct support structure extends automatically whenever the basket extension is raised. No more flipper doors or chains to manipulate, with less cotton loss to the sides. And best of all, the duct system allows a basket capacity of 1,400 cubic feet with standard basket lid extension. The “basket full” monitor lets the operator know when the basket is almost full. The optical-signal system features a transmitter and receiver mounted on the upper side screens. Operators are alerted with a visual and audible alarm. Two conveyors – one on the door and one in the basket – move a high volume of crop for less time at the dump site. Three compacting augers pack a dense payload for longer on-row time between dumps. Power Boost supplies extra horsepower when compacting. The augers activate automatically for 20 seconds when the basket is nearly full. Or, you can manually engage the augers with a foot switch. 1 2 3 Enjoy unprecedented unloading control with the PRO-LIFT basket. Notice how the basket raises at an angle as the door lowers. This unique design keeps the center of gravity close to the mid-point of the machine, providing exceptional stability … especially on uneven terrain. You can vary the unloading height from 5 feet 8 inches to as high as 13 feet 9 1⁄ 2 inches. And you can position the door for optimum unloading control and less spillage. A door extension is standard on all 6-row machines with duals and is available as an option on 4-row machines. The conveyor on the door can be operated independently for fast, easy, precise topping off of modules. 14 9996 Cotton Picker Run hard. Ride easy. The world’s best basket picker comes equipped with one of the industry’s plushest cabs … a quiet, comfortable environment that reduces fatigue, enhances efficiency, and lets you take full control of tight harvest schedules. It offers a 3.8mph first-gear picking speed, 4.5mph second-gear scrapping speed, and a 15.5-mph transport speed. With the Row-Trak Guidance System, you’ll see an increase in efficiency. Not only will there be more cotton in the basket, but the system also helps keep operator stress and fatigue at a minimum. Three augers distribute and pack cotton into the 9970 Picker’s large basket. The auger in the lid helps “meter” cotton for easier control of unloading. Notice how the basket extends well over the module for faster unloading, less spillage. An optional dump extension is available for even more control. 9970 Cotton Picker The 250-horsepower 6.8-liter PowerTech Plus engine provides constant power and excellent low-speed torque. It also features remarkable fuel economy, minimizing time spent refilling diesel tanks. Dependable John Deere final drives carry the weight of harvesting. Massive, strong, proven-reliable, the simple gearreduction design handles heavy loads easily. 21 22 7460 Cotton Stripper If you harvest big stripper-cotton acreage, you need the productivity of the John Deere 7460 Cotton Stripper, equipped with the 748 Header. Here’s how we built productivity into virtually every function. • The 7460 offers up to 173 engine horsepower. • A factory-built 8-row modular head with gear drives adds reliability. • The air system conveys up to 20 percent more cotton than the 7455. • Basket raise and lower cycles are 25 percent faster than predecessors. • Electronic header height control automatically adjusts for uneven terrain. But as productive as it is, the 7460 is surprisingly comfortable to operate. The ComfortCommand™ cab offers easy to use controls, and more glass area for improved visibility. The header is farther forward to give you a better view of the cotton entering the row units, and reduce the strain from leaning over the steering wheel. Got big stripper acreage? Unleash the 7460 Cotton Stripper from John Deere. Value Statement goes here – Our standard lighting package is very good, too. It includes two 55/65-watt low-beam For Demanding Producers: Produ ctivity on Demand Configurations Narrow 4-row 4-row skip X 5-row X 6-row X 6-row skip X 8-row X 23 Productivity requires power. So when we designed the 7460, we started with the proven John Deere PowerTech 6.8 L engine. But then we added even more power. Ten percent more, to be exact, so you can pull in a full 8 rows of high-yielding cotton. And because it’s a John Deere PowerTech engine, you know it’s designed and built especially for tough agricultural applications. The fuel tank is 26 percent larger than our previous stripper, too. With a capacity of 120 gallons, you can run longer between fill-ups and make the most of every minute in the field. What else? Try an electronic throttle control for smoother operation. A 200-amp alternator to handle the new available lighting system and other electronics. It all helps to make the 7460 a supremely powerful cotton harvester. Put the 7460 to work, and you’ll see what we mean. Wide X X X X X X Harvest up to eight rows per pass. The new 7460 Cotton Stripper can tear through fields quickly, thanks to the factory-built, John Deere dealer-supported 8-row 748 modular header. To make your tough days a little easier, we gave the 7460 Cotton Stripper our premiere operator station – the ComfortCommand cab. ComfortCommand cab gives you more room and more features than any cab we’ve ever put on a cotton stripper. First, this new cab has been positioned for a better view of the cotton entering the row units – no need to lean or strain. The ComfortCommand suspension seat helps reduce fatigue and improve operator efficiency. A variety of storage compartments let you organize and store snacks, drinks, a cell phone or other necessities. All the vital controls are within easy reach for smooth, efficient operation. And to top it off, the standard training seat gives new operators a place to sit and observe, or you a place to sit while training. Step into the new Comfort-Command cab and see for yourself what big comfort and productivity is all about. No belts, no slips, no breaks. Each row unit is driven by a fully-enclosed gear train with high-contact ratio gears for reduced noise and increased load-bearing capacity. 8-row double-flighting. Double flighting on 8-row wide header configurations provides smooth feeding of harvested cotton for higher productivity. Eight to six – no problem. The modular-head design lets you change rows and spacing quickly and easily. Wide, narrow or skip. Productive and versatile – the 748 header adjusts to just about any row spacing or configuration. More clearance, less damage. Raising the header fully lifts the row units an extra 14 inches to avoid potential damage. 24 7460 Cotton Stripper You can’t harvest cotton your stripper can’t reach. That’s why every 7460 Stripper comes with Electronic Header Height Control (EHHC). The EHHC system automatically adjusts the height of the row units to stay close to the ground, even at fast harvesting speeds. So you can be confident you’re pulling in all of your year’s hard work. You’re bound to pick up bolls you would have missed with previous machines. From the cab, you can adjust the header height and response rate, as well as individual unit height. There are no more batches of levers on each side of the steering wheel. Instead, simple buttons raise and lower the row unit. Cat-like reflexes are the result of replacing an old mechanical system. State-of-the-art electronic sensors and controls make for almost instantaneous response rates. What does it all mean? Simple – quicker system response times, higher ground speeds, and more cotton in the basket at the end of every row. Value Statement goes here – Our standard lighting package is very good, too. It includes two 55/65-watt low-beam Maximize your harvest. Minimize yo ur effort. Row-Trak™ Guidance 25 The Row-Trak Guidance System keeps your attention on harvesting cotton, rather than steering the machine. Operators stay more alert and more relaxed, with less stress and fatigue. This simple, reliable system pays off with more cotton in the basket and higher efficiency from machine and operator. Electronic height sensing lets you adjust header height and response rate on the go, from the cab. You’ll harvest bolls other machines might miss. To activate Row-Trak guidance, just line up with the rows, then hit the switch on the hydro handle. Row-Trak takes over, steering the stripper and keeping it on-row. Gone are the levers. Gone are the linkages. Cat-like reflexes are just one of the benefits of the electronic controls on the 7460. Raising and lowering the units are now done at the touch of a button. Convenient rocker switches calibrate and turn on the Row-Trak system. A switch on the hydro handle engages it. The wishbone rod assembly runs along each side of the row. A center pivot allows side-to-side movement as it follows the row, activating an electronic sensor that sends a signal to the controller. 26 7460 Cotton Stripper Pack more cotton in the basket. And unload it faster. If you’re not on the row, you’re losing valuable harvesting time. So we designed the cotton handling system on the 7460 Stripper to help you minimize the number of dumps required, unload faster, and get back to the field as quickly as possible. Start with the basket augers. The large flighting, big, hungry augers and second drive motor allow you to pack more cotton into the basket. Dump cycle times are fast, too – even with the added cotton that the 7460 is able to pack into the basket. And to help minimize basket jarring from the faster unload cycle, the cushioning system helps slow the basket as the hydraulic cylinders reach the end of their stroke. It all works together to help speed the unload cycle by up to 25 percent over our previous stripper models. You’ll spend more time on the row, and less time with the module builder or boll buggy. Value Statement goes here – Our standard lighting package is very good, too. It includes two 55/65-watt low-beam Strong but gentle. The cushioning system on the 7460 slows the movement of the basket as it nears the end of the cylinder stroke to help prevent jarring from the faster unload cycle. The lighting and mirror package, featuring HID lights, puts more hours in your harvest day with six additional lights. It also includes mirror extensions and two additional mirrors to increase visibility to the sides and rear. Bigger is better. The basket augers on the 7460 are 25 percent larger in diameter than augers on our previous model Plus, dual auger drives give each auger more packing power. So more cotton goes into the basket and you spend more time harvesting with less time unloading. Exclusive doffer design uses longer brushes, relocated brush protectors, and easy-off brush mounts for increased life and less maintenance hassle. We all like green – but not green bolls in your cotton. That’s why the 7460 features a separator inside the air duct to help separate out the green bolls and rocks. You run at higher field speed, with less plugging, and significantly fewer green bolls. You get more cleaning capacity from the wide finger grates and high 630 RPM top saw speed. Also, sensors for top saw speed, trash auger speed, and feeder shaft speed help you detect plugs and avoid trouble. The 12-brush doffer design improves doffing performance. The 7460 also features a doffer slip clutch for increased belt and pulley life, and a spring-loaded idler to help maintain the correct cleaner belt tension. And at the lower saw cleaner, a reclamation brush grabs cotton before it falls out of the cleaner, so you get more in the basket and less on the ground. Grab that stray cotton with our new lower-saw reclamation brush. Cotton is caught by the lower saw before it reaches the burr trail, so you get more in the basket and less left in the row. 27 28 John Deere Pro-Series Units No matter what row spacing you’re planting now (or might be planting in the future), you’ll be ready for just about anything with the PRO-Series Row Units. With a wide variety of available row-spacing configurations, you get unmatched cotton picking flexibility. Start with the patented John Deere roller and crank system … changing unit spacing is an easy, one-person job, and makes maintenance and service easier and more convenient. If a lack of suitable harvesting equipment has kept you from planting 15-inch rows, you’ll appreciate the new PRO-12 VRS System … these spindle-pick units adjust easily from 15 to 40 inches. Wide or narrow, skip or solid … no other manufacturer offers as many picking configurations – or pickers – as John Deere. PRO-Series Row Units give you a top-quality harvest. Nothing picks a field of highyielding cotton faster or cleaner than inline PRO-16 row units. With 20-spindlehigh, and 16-bar front and 12bar rear drums, a 4-mph firstgear picking speed opens up a whole new level of cottonharvesting productivity. A heavy-duty gearcase features large gears and bearings for extra durability. The units are lubricated with hydraulic oil, rather than cornhead grease, so they’re easier to fill. A high-speed rear drum gear increases rear drum spindle speed, improving picking efficiency. John Deere Pro-Series Units 29 PRO-XL™ spindles were specially engineered with John Deere’s PROSERIES cotton pickers in mind. They provide superior performance in harsh picking conditions and deliver a long wear life. John Deere PRO-12 VRS Picking Units: How They Work We added an inline cutting unit to the standard right-side picking unit. As the plant enters the cutting unit, rotary knives cut the stems. The feeder, synchronized with forward picking speed, holds the cut plant upright and gently passes it into the standing row as it enters the front picking zone. Crop passes through the front picking zone, and is then fed to the rear drum for harvesting of any remaining open bolls. Sight glasses on each row unit make it easy to ensure proper oil level. Electronic height sensing (standard on the 9996 and the 7760) lets you adjust both height and sensitivity on-the-go from the comfort of your cab. You can pick more low-hanging bolls because row-unit height automatically adjusts to the terrain. In fact, the units can be adjusted to run virtually flat to pick bolls other machines would leave behind. Adjusting the unit spacing on a John Deere picker is a fast, easy, one-person job. Simply pull a pin and crank the unit into place. And with the narrow profile of the PRO-SERIES inline row units, you have plenty of elbow room for accessing the doffers and moistener pads for cleanout. 30 Documentation and Guidance Get accurate yield maps with Harvest Doc Cotton. The ability to collect map-based yield information can help you make the most of expensive chemical inputs. Until now, however, the lack of an accurate yield monitoring system prevented precision technology from being widely used in cotton. But with the introduction of Harvest Doc Cotton, you now have an accurate, easy-to-use system to document cotton yields. Harvest Doc Cotton allows you to record yield information as the picker moves through the field. At the end of the day, you can download data into Apex to generate a variety of reports and maps. Use the data to help make better management decisions and increase your efficiency. GreenStar 2: One powerful package. Harvest Doc™ Cotton 31 Row-Trak Guidance Harvest Doc Cotton is John Deere’s first yield mapping system for this globally important crop. As with other high-yielding crops, the ability to collect harvest information is nearly as important as the crop itself. With Harvest Doc Cotton, you can document cotton yields with your GreenStar system and your John Deere 9986 and 9996 Cotton Pickers. Using Harvest Doc as the foundation, Harvest Doc Cotton enables you to generate detailed cotton yield maps that can help you make the best informed management decisions possible. Harvest Doc Cotton uses the GreenStar components in the machine. Once the data is collected you can use Apex software to generate detailed reports and maps of the captured yield data. Talk with your John Deere dealer for more details. GreenStar 2 System Value Statement goes here – Our standard lighting package is very good, too. It includes two 55/65-watt low-beam Nobody gives you precision options like John Deere. Our portfolio of Ag Management Solutions puts the power of GPS-based mapping and documentation into one easy-to-use package. The heart of the system is the GS2 2600 Monitor, our full-color, reconfigurable touchscreen display. Up top, the StarFire iTC receiver automatically compensates for sloping ground, so you always get accurate readings. Best of all, the entire system can be easily transferred to your GreenStarready combine, tractor, or sprayer. You can imagine how difficult it can be to stay on-row in this bushy, heavy-yielding irrigated cotton. It’s just one of many conditions where Row-Trak guidance can make a tremendous difference in your productivity. Simply line up with the rows, then activate the guidance system with a switch on the hydro handle. It’s that easy. 32 Service and Maintenance John Deere cotton harvesters: easy to use, easy to maintain. 33 Trust Genuine John Deere parts Whether you’re talking daily maintenance, routine service, or emergency repairs, you’ll appreciate doing business with John Deere and your cotton country John Deere dealer. To start, we made daily items quick and convenient. Remote tethers control rowunit lubrication, while quick-fill connections allow fast filling of the water tank and on-board lube system. When it’s time for larger service or repair items, nobody responds like your John Deere dealer. With a complete inventory of replacement parts, as well as trained technicians, your John Deere dealer can get you back on the row with minimal disruption to your harvest. Wide cab platform. The cab design features a large access platform that makes it easy to inspect ducts or perform routine daily maintenance. Thanks to the new duct support structure, getting in and out of the cab is a breeze. A water-filled fire extinguisher is mounted at the deck of the platform; a second ABC-type extinguisher is located at the rear of the machine. Quik-Fill™ speeds refills. A standard Quik-Fill lets you refill the moistener system much faster to get back on row sooner. A unique PROSERIES camtrack design gives you much easier access to the cam rollers. The inline unit’s narrow profile with swing-out moistener columns allows faster, easier service. Inspecting the nozzles is easier, too. Solution strainer. Because you check it every day, we located the solution strainer at the forefront, where it’s easy to reach. Just another small example of how John Deere builds machines with your convenience in mind. Quick remote lube fill. The hydro module cover provides easy access to the remote lube fill. There’s enough grease capacity to keep a 6-row machine lubed for a week. Easy-access fuses. Automotive-type fuses are located behind the training seat; easy to reach, easy to change. From our PRO-XL spindles to our specially formulated lubes to highquality air and oil filters, your John Deere dealer offers the most complete line of maintenance and replacement parts for your John Deere cotton harvester. 34 Specifications 7760 Engine..............................John Deere PowerTech Plus™ Horsepower..................................................................500 Power Boost..................................................................Yes Displacement.............................................................13.5L Cylinders............................................................................6 Turbocharged/Aftercooled............................................Yes Alternator.............................................................200 Amp Cooling System................................................................-- Rotary Screen................................................................Yes Ground Level Access to Coolers...................................Yes Fuel System......................................................................-- Type.............................................................Direct injection Governor.............................................................
