Sharon Model A Day
Sunday June 5th
It’s like going back in time when hundreds of Model A’s take over the small town of
Sharon. The town itself paints a picture of the 1930s with the sleepy small town look.
With the small shops and old buildings, then add Model A’s everywhere, an excellent
swap meet, bands playing in the park and all kinds of food, its like stepping back 80
years.
The day starts in Sharon at 9:00 a.m. and if you want to find a choice parking area
we will need to leave the New Berlin McDonalds at Moorland & National Ave. at
7:30 a.m.

TOUR TO WELLSPRING

NEWBURG, WI
Wellspring is the oldest Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) operation in Wisconsin in it’s 29th
year. They supply homes, restaurants and farmer’s markets with fresh organic fruits, vegetables and
herbs. The CSA arm of the organization operates with annual prepaid contracts that will grow and
then deliver fresh local produce to their customers.
We will enjoy an organic pizza and salad lunch on the grounds and a short walking educational tour of
the gardens and river on the whys and how of organic produce.
There will be a golf cart available for transport to and from car to handicap restroom and eating area.
We will end our tour at Wayne’s Drive-In in Cedarburg, which is a short drive from the historic district
of Cedarburg.
COST: The price is $10.00 per person payable to Gene or Betsy Taurman.

July 17th Tour - An Afternoon with the Polo Ponies
Our July 17th tour will take us to see a match at the Milwaukee Polo Field in
Hartland. We will tailgate at the field for lunch – bring your own food. After a
short presentation about polo horses, we will see a match between the Milwaukee Polo Club and Blackberg Ranch Club from Minneapolis. Final details will be in the July newsletter.

Annual Picnic
Please join us on Sunday August 21st at Veterans Memorial Park Pavilion in Muskego,
11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. for the annual Wisconsin Chapter picnic. The
park offers a number of unique features, there’s a boardwalk nature trail
that leads to the Old Muskego Settlement Center where we will be able to
tour furnished historical buildings of Muskego. The park has a playground
near the pavilion for the kids and the Pavilion is handicap assessable.
The charge for a non-member is $10 for adults and $5 for kids over 8.

The 2016 Waukesha BluesFest
(www.waukeshabluesfest.com) Will be held Saturday, August 13.
Waukesha BluesFest is a celebration of the “Roots” of American
music which includes blues, rock and roll, country, gospel, soul,
jazz, and folk. I would like to see 10 cars turn out for this event. It
is a great opportunity to show off your car and sell the club. We
get a large number of “lookers” who have an interest in our cars.
Free admission is provided. We would like you to arrive between
12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. and stay until 6:30 p.m. but you may
leave when you wish and are welcome to stay until closing at
10:30 p.m.
The event is held at Naga-waukee Park in Delafield located on
Highway 83 about one mile North of I-94.

Sunshine Report……
Walt Kaufman spent some time in the hospital. He is now home recovering.
We wish him a speedy recovery and return to normal activities.
Member Bob Lumley is recovering from heart surgery. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family as he heals and regains his strength. We hope to see Bob up and
about soon.
As mentioned in the May newsletter, George Wartner passed away April 12th, in Arizona. A celebration of George’s life will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church,
515 Fair Street, Lodi, Wisconsin 53555, 1-608-592-5711. A commemorative mass will be held at
11:00 a.m.. with burial of George’s cremains to follow.
A bit of a dark cloud here as no one has shown an interest in helping out with the following opportunities:
Banquet (2017), Dave/Linda Huenink have volunteered to host. Karen Schmiechen has volunteered to run the silent auction - volunteers are needed help host as well as to provide auction items

It is with great sadness that I inform you of Georges passing. George lost his heroic battle with pulmonary fibrosis on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at our hospital in Bullhead City, Arizona.
Please join in a celebration of Georges life on, Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Saint Patricks Catholic

Board Meeting May 14th, 2016

Two get well card were sent out – one to Karen Dickenson, the other to Wally Kaufman.

Mike called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
President – Mike- The board received the newsletters from the reciprocating clubs. One membership renewal was received. The board received
an invitation from MAFFI to attend the Presidents
reception at the National Convention June 21st,

Vice President – Randy – There are no new
members this month. Roger and Jan Olson sent
the board an obituary for George Wartner
Secretary – Dave – A motion was made by Neil
and seconded by Randy to accept the minutes
from the April 9th, 2016 meeting as written. The
motion was put to a vote and it carried. There are
212 members as of this meeting.
Treasurer – Steve – Steve gave the treasure’s
report. A motion was made by Dave and seconded by Neil to accept the treasurer’s report. The
motion was put to a vote and it carried. There
were no bills turned in.
Outdoor – Neil – Wally Kaufman can not do the
tour to Sharon for health reasons. Randy Kind will
host the event. The tour October 9th, 2016 is
changed to October 16th, 2016
Indoor – Mike for Karry – The indoor event for
December and February need hosts.

Old Business - A discussion was held regarding our spring donation to flight for life for
$500.00 A motion was made by Neil and seconded by Steve to make the donation. The
motion was put to a vote and it carried. The
club audit of the books has been completed
and everything is in order. Mike Quam and
several board members are meeting at Al
Downs hanger May 22nd to go through and
move the clubs property. The club is still looking for a host for the swap meet.
New Business – A discussion was held regarding having some gift baskets offered at the
2017 banquet auction. It was decided to have
several totaling $200.00 for all.
Neil made a motion to adjourn meeting and it
was seconded by Mike. The motion was put to
a vote and it carried. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.

Sunshine Report: Jim Wangerin was injured at work. It seems that some carpenters removed some plywood
flooring from behind Jim and as he took one step back to observe his own work, found himself landing one
floor down. A dislocated shoulder was the end result. Also, John Nalley has been laid up for about a month
with his other leg. Hope that he is back to work soon and able to do more on his ‘A’.
Junior: “What happens to automobiles when they get to old to run?”
Mother: “Someone sells them to your father.”
The reason opportunity isn’t often recognized is that it goes about disguised as work.
From The Back Of The Truck: For your information our chapter sends all the metro Ford dealers a copy of
“Wheeling the A”. So, next time you are at a local Ford dealership see if you can find out what happens to
their copy. Do they put it out for the public? (do we still send copies out to the Ford dealerships?)

It does not seem possible that our Model A touring season is here already. Time flies when you are having fun. Did you get your car ready
and service it before you started driving down the road this year?
You did make sure you greased your chassis.
Of course, you checked the tire pressure and made sure all your lug
nuts were snug.
You checked your oil to see if it was O.K. or needed to be changed didn't you?
What do your points look like?
You did give that drop of oil to your distributor didn't you?
Does your radiator have enough water or antifreeze?
And, the list goes on and on.
Remember, it is MUCH easier to go over you "A" in the driveway than on the road!

Presidents notes…
Not too much new this month. At our last board of directors meeting we decided to
make our spring donation to the Flight for Life organization. Today Sue and I and
our granddaughter dropped off the check and our granddaughter got a quick tour of
the helicopter. Such friendly people working there.
We are still in need of someone to take over the paperwork, reservations portion of the swap meet.
Sue and I have “retired” from that and it will need to be filled soon. Getting ready for the swap meet
starts in October and before we know it October will be here.
Karry is still in need of hosts for indoor meetings in December and February. If you’d like to host
something different or fun, please let Karry know.
Hopefully summer gets here soon and stays for more than a day. We have some great tours coming up, make sure to check the newsletter for details and make sure you’re A’s are ready to roll.

Looking Back in the Rearview Mirror
Spring start up tour - FLIGHT for LIFE
On a beautiful spring day to shake the rust, pedal to the metal, gas and go, we did. We met at Oscars custard on Hwy 100, fueled ourselves and then we headed to Waukesha to The Flight for Life helicopter base.
Thankfully it was not on a rescue mission, so we enjoyed a great tour.
This non profit organization gave our Model A group a complete visit of
the history, staff, communication equipment and helicopters. The communications director has a big job taking calls, coordinating everything
about the pending flight and where it will land and where it transport
the patient to for the best medical help.
The helicopter has a crew of three, a pilot, nurse, and an EMT. The
time the communication director gets the call to the departing of the
helicopter is eight minutes. The staff is on duty 24/7/ 365 on twelve
hour shifts.
Cost of the service is very expensive, but so is the cost of each helicopter which is about six million and
around five hundred thousand for the small but well equipped emergency medical items.
We had a wonderful tour from Dennis Mohr, (a friend of Bob & Karen Schmiechen), of Crites Field and to
view his own aircraft. Then to top it off, if you were able to climb the steps to the control tower you received a
bonus to see the run ways and the lay out of Crites Field.
Then fifteen Model A,s and a few modern iron headed off on back roads to Marty’s Pizza for fuel and refreshments. A group of approximately fifty five members were no longer running on empty.

To receive the newsletter and the roster via the US Mail (first class)
the dues are $30.00 New member applications are approved at the
monthly Board of Directors meeting, which is the second
Saturday of the month. You will receive a welcome letter upon
approval. Dues include membership only in the
Wis. Chapter MAFCA until the end of the current calendar year.
