Who Are We?
The Hearing Loss
Association of
America
Nashville
Chapter began
in 1998.
The Process
• Chapter Board of Directors
(Elected/Appointed) meets
monthly
• Request input from the general
membership
• Hold Board planning retreats
• Identify priority goals and
objectives
• Recruit volunteers to chair and
serve on committees
Identify and
Prioritize
Goals
#1 Outreach and
Networking
#2 Support
#3 Education
#4 Accessibility
#5 Social
Set Objectives
Goal #1
Outreach and
Networking
Objective: We will reach out
to people with hearing loss in
our communities to offer new
services. We will work with
and promote existing
programs and services to
reach a larger audience.
Set Objectives
Goal #2
Support
Objective: We will support
people with hearing loss,
their families, and their
friends, by creating a support
group led by a trained
facilitator to focus on
psychological aspects of
hearing loss, mental health,
domestic violence, etc. We
will provide necessary
assistive communication
support.
Set Objectives
Goal #3
Education
Objective: We will provide
information about hearing
loss, the Hearing Loss
Association of America,
assistive listening
devices/technology,
CART/captioning, and
resources for help at our
monthly meetings and other
places, such as, health fairs,
conferences, shelters,
independent/assisted living
centers, and special events.
Set Objectives
Goal #4
Accessibility
Objective: We will advocate for
accessible public recreational and
cultural venues and events. We
will continue to offer free
CART/captioning to community
venues for a single event, to
encourage their future support
for CART/captioning. We will
continue to make our meetings
accessible (CART/captioning, sign
language interpretation, FM
Assistive Listening System).
Set Objectives
Goal #5
Social
Objective: We will organize
monthly social events for
people with hearing loss,
their families, and their
friends. These events will
be in addition to social
activities during monthly
Chapter Meetings.
Identify
Community
Partners
What is a stakeholder?
The word, “stakeholder"
was first used at Stanford
Research Institute in 1963
to apply to "those groups
without whose support
the organization[s] would
cease to exist."
Why are
Community
Partners
Important?
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Visibility
Funding
Resources
Contacts
Identifying Needs
Cutting through red tape
“Who you know” really
IS important!
Who are
Potential
Stakeholders
and Partners?
Consumers with hearing
loss, families, friends,
businesses, government
agencies, organizations,
educators, professionals,
vendors, entertainers, and
individuals who may have
vested interest in hearing
loss.
Anyone Else?
Be creative!
Partnership potential is not
always evident at first.
Take a deeper look for
common interests.
