Dear Rail Sector Colleague,
Unprecedented Investment and Development Opportunities in Scandinavian Rail
The huge investments planned for Scandinavia’s rail networks mean that this region continues to lead the European Rail
market. The transport authorities of Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark are well aware that innovative, world-class railways
serving both the freight and passenger markets are the key to swift and sustainable economic growth.
You will be aware that the Swedish government’s 10-year infrastructure spending plan is worth around £50 billion.
Investments will be made in brand new infrastructure as well as much needed maintenance.
With Sweden introducing its first high-speed railway – the largest infrastructure project conducted in Sweden in a generation
– these are times of major significance for the rail sector, with a high level of expertise to be employed in order to overcome the
huge challenges that these projects will present.
Denmark’s Train Fund - worth £2.6 billion over the next ten years - and being invested in the country’s rail infrastructure in
order to improve public transport, is the largest fund in Danish history.
There is currently a very strong level of cross-political support for the Norwegian Transport Plan which allocates a huge
£13 billion to railways. £7 billion is earmarked for infrastructure investments and £5.8 billion for operation and maintenance.
Returning to Stockholm after two years in Oslo, the 2016 Scandinavian Rail Development conference will bring together
the infrastructure managers, passenger and freight operators, train manufacturers and innovators, to present and discuss
investment plans for the region’s rail networks. The networking and exhibition area offers you the opportunity to assess the
very latest rail innovations and facilitates significant opportunities to network with the leading figures in Nordic Rail.
These are unprecedented times for the region’s rail network and this year’s conference once again provides an unmissable
opportunity for all rail professionals with an interest in the Scandinavian rail sector.
I am delighted to welcome you to join us in Stockholm on Tuesday 24th May 2016 for what already looks set to be a superb rail
sector conference.
Yours faithfully,
Sarah Gooding

nderstanding Cyber Security in the Transport Industry
U
This presentation is aimed at those who need to understand the cyber threat, its landscape and how it may impact upon their
organisation and systems. It will offer clear guidance and signposts to help understanding of cyber security issues. The media,
through their coverage of high-profile attacks, and attention from all levels of government has made cybersecurity a familiar term.
This has caused many transport professionals to take notice, but made it hard for them to act. They are advised to assess their risk,
but many do not know how. They are told to address vulnerabilities that are identified, but this consumes operating budgets and
with no immediate or tangible return.
• Understand the current threat landscape
• Current cyber security legislation
