Technology is not my area of
expertise. When I took on my job as
program director five years ago,
managing our website was one of
those little “by the ways” for which I
would be responsible.
Sure, I’ll try it, boss (but you’ll be
sorry…) Before long, I found out that
the website was tricky to use and
even trickier to manage, especially
for a non-techy like me. Soon
enough, it became evident that the
Generations website was in need of
an overhaul. Having updated the
thing for years, I knew this. What I
didn’t know was how to do it.
Enter the VNA Foundation of
Greater North Penn. Using
generous grant funds from this
benevolent foundation, we began the
process of rebuilding our website to
make it more appealing and user
friendly, both for those navigating the
site and for those managing it. The
planned remodel would also help
make our website mobile friendly, a
necessity after Google announced
they would boost mobile-friendly
pages in their search results.
It was a pleasure working with
Bergey Creative Group of
Harleysville to rebuild the website.
They walked us through every step
of the editing process and are still
supportive now that they have turned
over to us the responsibility of
updating the site.
On the website, you can find out
about our history, mission and
offerings; view our full on-line
activity calendar including our noon
meal menu; view or download
printable monthly newsletters or
participant and volunteer
applications; see our staff and
participant photo galleries; be linked
directly to our Facebook page; learn
about our Meals on Wheels offerings
and much more.
So, whether you are a casual
computer user like me or a seasoned
expert, we think you will find our
new website attractive, helpful and
easy to use. Be sure to check it out at

the surrounding communities with
programs in wellness, nutrition, social
services, recreation, travel and more.
Generations’ Meals on Wheels program
serves the Indian Valley and North Penn
areas.
Generations of Indian Valley is funded, in
part, under contract with Aging and Adult
Services of Montgomery County.
Additional funding is provided by the North
Penn United Way, foundation grants,
municipal support, fundraising projects and
individual and corporate contributions. We
suggest, but do not require, an annual
contribution from our participants to help
defray the costs of our operating expenses.

Medicare Fraud
Friday, January 22
Did you know that billions of dollars are lost to
Medicare fraud and abuse each year? Money lost to
fraud means increased premiums for beneficiaries,
increased taxes for all of us, and less money available
for programs that assist caregivers. That’s the bad
news.
The good news is that you can do something about
it. In response to the problem of fraud, the U.S.
In addition to the financial
cost, there is a human cost.
Medicare fraud diminishes the
quality of care received by
older adults and can result in
the denial of medically
necessary treatment.
Administration on Aging developed the Senior
Medicare Patrol (SMP) program. The SMP is a
Medicare fraud prevention program that educates
people about fraud and scams and what they can do
about it. The message is simple: Protect your
personal information, know how to detect fraud, and
know where to report fraud.
You are invited to attend an SMP presentation on
Friday, January 22 at 11:00am. Come learn what
fraud is, how you can recognize it, and what you can
do about it. Please stop by our front desk or call
215-723-5841 to register for the free program.

Zentangle is a pen and ink technique that explores the
potential of pattern, line and positive and negative
space. Zentangle is quickly becoming popular among
artists and non-artists alike, because of the nature of its
beautiful simplicity that incorporates both the stroke of
a pen and the state of relaxation. The goals of
Zentangle are to increase focus, induce relaxation and
encourage deliberate mark-making and invention.
Join Certified Zentangle Teacher, Randall TaylorCraven for Zentangle 101. Students will work in a
small format to make a completed black-on-white
paper tile. During the workshop, Randall will also
discuss how Zentangle can be applied to different
media and to numerous cross-curricular activities.

Meals on Wheels:
It’s SNOW Problem
Our Meals on Wheels
program delivers two meals
each day to 160 clients and
serves these community
members through the
volunteer efforts of nearly
250 volunteers.
During the winter months,
though, there are certain
harsh weather days when
we don’t like to send these
dedicated volunteers out to
make deliveries.
That’s why we provide each
of our clients with “snow
meals’ comprised of
substantial shelf-stable food
items they can use in the
event that delivery is
cancelled.
Each year local Girl Scout
Cadette Troop 73212 is kind
enough to help us assemble
these meals, and we
appreciate their continued
support.

Mackinac Island is a unique vacation spot boasting fine
dining, historic sites, and exciting attractions. The French
pronounced it “MackinAW" but spelled it
“MackinAC." The British heard it
pronounced "MackinAW" so they
spelled it that way. Whichever way it
is spelled, it is always pronounced
“MackinAW. . .”
Some visit Mackinac Island for the
elegant places to stay; others for the
rich history of Fort Mackinac. Still others come to shop
and take a scenic carriage tour or ride bicycles around the
shoreline of the island (cars and motor coaches are banned
on the Island). Almost everyone, of course, wanders into
one of the many sweet-smelling candy shops downtown.
Join our friendly overnight traveling group on a six day/
five night visit to Mackinac Island and journey to the best
part of the past. Our package includes two nights
accommodations to and from the Mackinac Island area,
three nights deluxe lakefront accommodations in the
Mackinac Island area (three nights), horse-drawn carriage
taxi service on Mackinac Island, five full
breakfasts, three sumptuous dinners in
Mackinaw City, a luncheon at the famous
“Grand Hotel,” a “Soo Locks” cruise and a
carriage tour of Mackinac Island. You’ll also
enjoy a hydroplane ferry ride, a visit to Old
Fort Mackinac and more.

Nashville at Christmas Time
The theme was Nashville at Christmas Time and over 80 Generations Travelers were in for a big treat at the amazing Gaylord
Opryland Hotel. With over two million holiday lights, this 2,882 guest room hotel was turned into a winter wonderland.
Proceeds for this trip netted $1030 for our Center funding. Thanks to
volunteer escorts Tish, Mary Lou, Sandy and John for hosting.
Our trip included
three different venues all held at the hotel
including a show at the New Grand Old Opry, a
tour of the magnificent ice sculptures from The
Nutcracker and a Christmas show with the Gatlin
Brothers. Everyone went their own way on our free
day and we finished our last day with a tour of
downtown Nashville. I even had my sixty seconds
of fame at Tooties Orchid Lounge where I was
asked on stage by the performer to sing"I've Got
Friends In Low Places.” I apologize to anyone who
heard me but I had a blast. Special thanks to
everyone who traveled with us, especially the
troopers who had some walking issues but never
complained. Nashville at Christmas was a great
way to start the season!
