Another Wonderful Year with Chapter B
1
Some members of Chapter B and Chapter I pose in front of Motown records original headquarters
in Detroit during on of their trips during this year. The chapter had many trips, great adventures,
great times and we did it together as friends for FUN SAFETY & KNOWLEDGE.
DIRECTOR’S CORNER
Stingers!
I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. My message will be a little short
but not much has been going on since entering the winter months. Let’s take a stroll through November.
1 Nov - District Staff Meeting (Elks Lodge in Temple Hills)
We had a good time and all the chapters were well represented. There was a lot of information put
out but the main focus seemed to be Winter Thing and that it’s going to be the 25th anniversary and
how we as a district wanted to proceed. During the meeting it was with great pleasure that we have
identified our 2015 Couple of the Year (Charles & Shirley Dorsey). I am so excited about that and I
know that they will represent the HIVE well as always. The Elks Lodge rolled out a great meal for us
also and I took part in the fish which was excellent and several other folks took part in the Pork
Chops which I heard were delicious also.
4 Nov – Chat & Chew (Carolina Kitchen in Hyattsville)
Charles Simms made mention that a good time was had by all. Unfortunately I was unable to attend.
8 Nov – Ride Schedule Meeting (Golden Corral)
We (Dennis & Charlie, Bruce, Regina, Lillian, Tony Bonner, and myself) put on our thinking caps
and put together a pretty aggressive schedule for the 2015 riding season (we are on a mission). We
do have some new looks on the schedule thanks to everyone’s inputs. It’s still not too late to make
some additions so feel free to keep them coming. We will have the ride schedule finalized and posted by Winter Thing and as you know it’s always subject to change.
15 Nov - Chapter Gathering
Family, we had another fantastic gathering and visitors from Chapter’s (L and I) were in the house to
break bread with the family. It started off a little shaky because as I got there it was mentioned to me
that another party of disable veterans were booked in the same area so we were pushed to a smaller
area about a third of the size we normally use which meant things were about to get a little tight to
say the least but we made it happen regardless.
The highlight as always was just seeing everyone together and with an added twist having the CHAPTER picking up the tab for the HIVE’s meal. We were honored to be partnershiped with Queens
Chapel UMC for the Share Program and as a result of your efforts we were able to close out our obligational portion by donating $173.00 along with several items of clothing. The HIVE really stepped
up to the plate and I want to thank each and every one of you for your support.

etc.
Please keep the following HIVE member in prayer as they continue their roads to recovery, Karen
Monroe, Margaret Dockery, Charlie Fogg, Bruce Hill, Darrell Wills.
Reflections of the year in review
First off I would like to thank the staff for your guidance and support. I came in with my eyes wide open
wondering who, what, where, and how but you all had my back and guided me every step of the way.
THANK YOU!!!
Family, we have had a WONDERFUL and eventful year and the staff and I want to thank each one of you
for your time and continued support because without YOU the HIVE would not be in the position it’s in
and that’s NUMBER ONE!
As the new staff was officially put in place at Winter Thing last year, we had a meeting that day and
some our goals and objectives for the year were put on the table.
- We wanted to take a step in faith and establish a new venue for the HIVE. GOSH, things just exploded
above our imagination. The Golden Corral has been a blessing for the HIVE and our extended chapters as
well.
- We wanted to get the Stingers out once again fellowshipping with the HIVE. The Staff and I would just
look at each other with a smile as the participation at the gatherings, and rides would just fill with Stingers! We were averaging about 25 members per meeting this year and 7-10 bikes per ride. I would frequently hear about how things were back in the day with members flooding the gatherings, rides etc, we
might not be totally there but we have made significant progress in bringing back that nostalgia and other
chapters have taken notice as well.
- Increase Membership. We officially brought on 4 new HIVE members; Tony Bonner, Jeff Lindenwhite,
Dennis Johnson, and Charlie Fogg and numerous visitors as far away as Tennessee have visited the
HIVE.. We have a couple of folks on the fence but I am sure they will be coming onboard shortly. The goal
is for that number to double in 2015.
- Chat-n-Chew participation. This monthly event just went through the roof. We were averaging about 15
Stingers and it was so much fun and enjoyment breaking bread with the family.
These are just a few of the major accomplishments for the HIVE because of YOU. As we roll into 2015 lets
raise the bar even higher and enjoy the upcoming riding season.
You all are the very best, thanks for your continued support.

FROM THE ASSISTANT CHAPTER DIRECTOR
FROM THE ASSISTANT CHAPTER DIRECTOR
I want to thank everyone for a wonderful 2014 Chapter year. We had a great Fun Day with our
first Motorcycle Rodeo. We started the riding season with a Bike Blessing. We participated in
the District Bowl-a-Thon. We attended all the Maryland Chapter’s fundraisers. We visited every
Maryland Chapter twice this year. We had the best ever Motorist Awareness month with eight
events. A trip to Madison, Wisconsin, via Niagara Falls, Canada, with very creative members
towing a Trike back from Wing Ding. An eventful lunch ride to Williamsburg, Virginia, where we
learned the importance of a pickup truck and creative members transporting a motorcycle. We
participated in two car and bike shows. We had a Fall Foliage-Ice cream ride. We attended WinterThing, Wing Ding, the Bi-State Rally, the Pennsylvania Rally, the Region K Rally, Rally in the
Valley, and Wings over the Smokes. We attended a lot of training this year as a Chapter. The
Hive truly is Friends for Fun, Safety, and Knowledge. As you can see, we had a busy year with
short rides and long rides. This would not have been possible without YOU our members.
THANK YOU!!!
I wish everyone a blessed, healthy, and happy holiday season!!! I look forwarded to seeing everyone in 2015.
November 15, Monthly Chapter Meeting, Golden Corral, 1001 Shoppers Way, Largo, MD. We
had a “thankful” gathering. The Hive picked up breakfast for everyone in attendance. THANK
YOU!!! It was good to have Cliff Harris back in the Hive. He shared with us that Gracie
Wilson was in the hospital. Please keep her in your prayers. We were visited by Stan and Shelley Greene, MD-I and Terry Gardner, MD-J. Thanks to everyone for supporting our partnership
with Queen Chapel United Methodist Church (QCUMC) “Feed the Families” and clothing donations for Thanksgiving. We raised $173.00. Way to go Hive!!!

RIDER EDUCATION
You Are Getting Very Sleepy…
by Robert Vaughan
It’s our two archenemies, fatigue and drowsiness, talking to us again in their usual mono-tones. They are indeed powerful, but they can be beaten with a little knowledge and planning. Let’s practice the old adage….know your enemy.
What are fatigue and drowsiness? Fatigue is a weakness or weariness resulting from physical exertion or prolonged
stress. It can be both physical and mental. Drowsiness is a state of lowered consciousness, reduced alertness, and
dulled perception.
Knowing what they are is only the first part. We also need to know what causes them and how to fight them. They
usually occur in pro-longed riding because of monotony, tight schedules, heavy traffic, or bad weather. After two to
four hours of continuous riding, the central nervous system becomes fatigued, senses become dulled, and perception
is lowered. Highway hypnosis can sneak up on you. Highway hypnosis is the drowsiness caused by lack of visual
and physical stimulation while riding. Several things contribute to it—straight, unvarying roads, riding alone at night,
few riding operations and being surrounded by the monotonous engine sound.
How can you fight these enemies? If you’ve had a hard day, physically or mentally, you need plenty of sleep before
riding. Don’t plan to start for Big Bend after work. Go home. Sleep. Leave the problems of work behind and get a
fresh start in the morning. Plan the trip for no more than two hours of straight road at a stretch. Vary your speed, lane,
and lane position. Listen to the radio, or better yet, talk on the CB or to your co-rider. Take rest breaks. They help to
raise alertness levels.
Riding demands more attention and requires more skills than driving. You need that extra edge--not just when you
start your trip, but always. A little planning can keep you sharp and safe for the whole trip.
