GIORNALE - Aristeo Construction
GIOR NA LE A Construction Journal by Aristeo JUNE 2015 ARISTEO AWARD RECOGNITIONS Joe Aristeo accepting the Ford World Excellence Award with Ford executives Hau Thai-Tang, Group Vice President, Global Purchasing and Mark Fields, President and CEO Aristeo and Stenco are honored to be recognized for these coveted awards! Aristeo has been honored and recognized for our commitment to excellence, quality, and safety! We have won three very prestigious awards this year and our minority business affiliate, Stenco Construction, has been recognized for its outstanding safety performance! 2015 CORPORATE ONE AWARD At this year’s Michigan Minority Procurement Conference, Aristeo accepted the 2015 Corporate ONE Award from the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC). This award honors the corporations that take a leadership role in supplier diversity by achieving 5% or more direct spend with MBE’s, and also actively participate in the MMSDC’s key initiatives throughout the year. This marks the sixth time that Aristeo has received this award in the last eight years. 2015 FORD WORLD EXCELLENCE Aristeo has won the Gold World Excellence Award from Ford Motor Company, honoring our North American Construction Commodity Management efforts. Now in its 17th year, the World Excellence Awards recognize suppliers who exceed company expectations and distinguish themselves from their peers by achieving the highest levels of global excellence in quality, cost, and delivery performance. The awards are divided into two categories, Silver for the top 10% of global suppliers, and Gold for the top 5% of global suppliers. Aristeo has won the Silver award twice in the company’s history (2006 and 2013), but this is the first year we have won the Gold. Ford has thousands of suppliers across the world, and it is truly an honor to be named in the top 5% of global suppliers. This is the result of the hard work of not only our dedicated Ford teams, but of the entire company as a whole. We are extremely proud of this distinction, and look forward to a continued successful partnership with Ford Motor Company. www.aristeo.com AGC SAFETY AWARDS In an ongoing effort to promote safety in the construction industry, the AGC of Michigan presented the 2014 Michigan Outstanding Safety Performance Awards to its construction company members during the annual chapter meeting in Detroit. These awards recognize the firms that are among the industry’s leaders in protecting their employees. Aristeo Construction was awarded the General Contractor Division V Silver Award, Aristeo Installation was awarded the Specialty Contractor Division III Gold Award, and our minority business affiliate, Stenco Construction, received the Specialty Contractor Division I Gold Award! Awards are broken into two categories, General Contractor and Specialty Contractor, which are divided into divisions based on total work hours. The award has three levels of achievement—the Gold signifies an injury rate of zero and a Silver signifies an injury rate less than one. June 2015 | Aristeo Giornale MOBIS TECHNICAL CENTER Courtesy of NORR, LLC (Detroit, MI) - Project A/E The Aristeo team recently began construction on the new Mobis Technical Center in Plymouth, Michigan. This $7M facility for Mobis, a subsidiary of Hyundai, will help further the goal of merging multiple facilities into one single showcase where development teams can better collaborate and clients can experience the Hyundai/Mobis way of design integration. The new 100,000 SF single story high bay building will house up to 450 engineers and have multiple research lab spaces. The demolition phase included complete removal of all walls, atriums, and mechanical and electrical systems back to the steel and precast frame. Hyundai corporate standards require a new two story lobby and meeting rooms with high end finishes, along with glass wall offices and collaboration areas. A workout area, locker rooms, and new cafeteria are also part of the renovation. Our team will add windows to existing precast walls and install new HVAC, fire protection, fire alarm, and electrical power/IT systems. Since some of the Mobis associates are currently working in buildings with expiring leases, the pressure is on to get the new office areas ready within a compressed schedule. Phase II includes additional labs and a new mezzanine office in the development areas. During phase III, we will upgrade the site to accommodate the new building population, which includes a new main lobby entrance. We have previously completed other projects at the Hyundai Ann Arbor facility, including the Environmental Test Chamber Addition and the Test Cell Renovation project, and are honored to be part of this important facility that will help expand the research and development presence of Hyundai/Mobis in the area. | Built on Trust Courtesy of NORR, LLC (Detroit, MI) - Project A/E www.aristeo.com Aristeo Giornale | June 2015 MICHIGAN MINORITY PROCUREMENT CONFERENCE For over 15 years, Aristeo has been exhibiting at the Michigan Minority Procurement Conference, Michigan’s top Minority Business Enterprise event. This year’s event took place in Detroit, Michigan, on May 5-7 at the Cobo Center. As a Ford and General Motors supplier, Aristeo also attended the Ford Motor Company Supplier Diversity Development CEO Breakfast and General Motors annual supplier IMPACT meetings. The procurement conference is a great opportunity to enhance current relationships and develop new ones with MBE construction suppliers and subcontractors. 2015 Michigan Minority Procurement Conference ASPE BID DAY SIMULATION Aristeo once again supported the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) Bid Day Simulation Event, volunteering to be an underwriter and contributing to the ASPE/NAWIC scholarship fund. The event, which was held on April 9, focuses on introducing construction management and engineering students from local colleges and universities to the excitement and challenges of a typical bid day in a hard dollar bid scenario. We are pleased to support the ASPE, which offers scholarships for students in construction management programs that show an interest in construction cost estimating. A special thank you to Susan Gollon for her continued commitment and support of the ASPE! It’s important to ensure the communities in which we live and work, whether here in Michigan or across the country, are improved by our presence. We are fortunate enough to be in a position to give back to those around us, and I’m humbled to see so many employees embrace this corporate value and get involved in charity work. So far this year, we have hosted numerous company sponsored events that have helped us give back. Through the United Way, our employees have been involved in volunteering at Gleaners Food Bank in Detroit, helping put food on the table for those in need. A team of over 20 employees and their families participated in the Walk Against MS in downtown Detroit to help fight multiple sclerosis. A separate team of Kentucky and Tennessee based employees competed in the Nashville Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon, which benefits St. Jude Children’s Hospital. In addition, we have donated to dozens of charities, sponsored numerous local children’s sport teams and organizations, and have collectively spent thousands of hours of volunteer time aimed at helping those around us. For as busy and demanding as this industry can be, and as much as we ask of them every day, I am proud that our employees make the time to contribute to charitable pursuits. For those involved in our efforts, or involved in efforts outside of those that Aristeo sponsors, thank you very much and keep up the good work! If you know of a charity or cause needing support, please let us know and we would be happy to help. KID’S DAY AT ARISTEO Aristeo hosted our second annual Kid’s Day event on May 31 at the main office, and despite the rain, over 140 employees and their family members attended the event! Aristeo kids and their parents were able to tour our 9 acre site, explore different types of construction equipment, excavate sand, and run a compactor! They also got a chance to show off their creative side by painting and decorating their own custom flower pot and entering our coloring competition. Children of all ages played in the sand box obstacle course, met Bob the Builder, and ate lots of ice cream. We thank everyone for participating and making this event a huge success! | Built on Trust www.aristeo.com Aristeo Giornale | June 2015 ARISTEO IN THE COMMUNITY Aristeo is Now a Proud Partner of the United Way! Aristeo is pleased to announce our corporate partnership with the United Way of Southeastern Michigan! We are excited for the opportunity to help create a positive change and a better quality of life for all residents of Greater Detroit. On Friday, March 20, volunteers from Aristeo worked with Gleaners Food Bank in Detroit, MI, helping sort and repackage donated food for families and individuals in need. Aristeo volunteers at Gleaners Food Bank, Detroit, MI The Hunger Hero! Supporting the Fight Against Multiple Sclerosis On May 3, Aristeo employees and their family members participated in the Walk MS event at Comerica Park in Detroit, MI. Our team joined over 2,500 other supporters on a two mile walk through downtown to raise awareness and funds to help find a cure for MS. Great job to everyone who participated, and a special thank you to our biggest fundraiser, Brian Batkins! St. Jude’s Music City Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon Several members of our project teams in the Nashville, TN area recently competed in the St. Jude’s Music City Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon. We had five team members complete the race, from which all fundraising proceeds go directly to support the important work at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. We were recently named as Crain’s Detroit Business’ number six contractor, and ranked 203 (up from 268) in Engineering News Record’s Top 400 Contractors list. Aristeo first entered the ENR Top 400 list in 2007, and is now nearly halfway to the top of the list. Our double-digit company growth is due to unprecedented facility and process equipment investments by our core automotive clients, which helped bump ENR’s manufacturing sector business volume to nearly $10B in 2014. Our efforts to diversify into the energy and industrial markets also supported the company’s sales growth. With a strong start to sales in 2015, and a respectable amount of work in process, we look forward to additional growth this year!
