Getting to and around Luxembourg
Luxembourg can easily be reached by car on highways from Belgium,
Germany and France as well as by train from major cities in the adjacent
countries. The TGV connects Luxembourg and Paris in just about two hours
and from spring 2016 also Strasbourg. Check www.sncf.com for timetables
and fees.
Luxembourg’s international but small airport is located east of the City.
EasyJet flies to Luxembourg airport, but most of the other budget airlines fly
to Frankfurt/Hahn and/or Charleroi from where coach services run to various
places in Luxembourg. Check www.flibco.com for airport shuttle timetables
and prices.
Getting around Luxembourg is easy by bus. Taxi rides are fairly expensive, but
a bit cheaper when booked online via www.webtaxi.lu.
Luxembourg City was built on a fortress, therefore the old city is rather small
and walking is the best way to explore the town and its beautiful “Chemin de
la Corniche”, “the most beautiful balcony of Europe” down to the “canyon”,
the nature and the remains of one of Europe’s biggest former fortresses can
be admired.
Luxembourg has a fairly cosmopolitan population, most people speak English
and don’t mind helping out visitors with directions. The official languages of
Luxembourg are French, German, and of course Luxembourgish, which
sounds like a middle German dialect.

Friday Night @ the BIG BEER COMPANY
Pre-conference dinner – Friday 20 May 2016 starting at 8:30 pm
Join in the fun at Luxembourg’s famous beer factory located in the party
district, Clausen! Enjoy boutique beer, local wines and food served in the
historic brewery amongst antique boilers. We will have tables of 20+ seats
reserved for us on the mezzanine, while the restaurant stays open to the
public and also hosts a DJ from 11 pm onwards.
The dinner is not part of the conference package; hence it’s open to all
toastmasters and guests. A great opportunity for all Luxembourg
toastmasters to meet TM from divisions across Europe and vice versa.
From the train station take bus no. 9, 14 or 23 to “Clausener-Bréck”,
cross the street to enter the courtyard ("Rives de Clausen") where the party
is, and look for your fellow toastmasters. The Big Beer Company is going to be
on your right side.
From the youth hostel simply walk down the Montée de Clausen;
you'll be there in approximately 8 minutes.
From Parc Hotel Alvisse do carpooling or take a cab.

The Professional Trainers Group:
The European Trainers Network
Fischbach room
Friday, 12:30 - 2:15 PM
The idea behind the Professional Trainers Group is to maintain a network
within Toastmasters for those who pursue training activities as their
profession or who aspire to build a training business. The sessions organised
during the District Conferences offer a good opportunity to find ways of
cooperation and support among the members, share experiences and
concerns, and to discuss common challenges. The members of the Group also
give written feedback to workshop presenters at the District Conferences.
More and more Toastmasters wish to join the Group. To manage this, we are
about to launch a website with a new name for our group – The European
Trainers Network. With a speakers' directory on the website, it will help TM
conference organisers to find keynote speakers, facilitators, workshop
presenters for their event. It will serve as a very useful platform where
trainers find occasional business partners with certain skills in specific
domains.
Everyone is welcome at our seminar session on Friday afternoon at the
District Conference in Luxembourg. First, Christian Eggenberger will
demonstrate his distinctive training style with an interactive workshop called
"Flipchart Visual Craft for Spell-binding Performance". Following the
workshop we'll hold a discussion on training for trainers, where to find
training ideas and inspiration, and how to test those ideas. Come join us.
Together we learn, we share and we have fun.

Train your vocal variety dramatically
or how to elevate your vocal possibilities in a playful way
Diekirch room
Friday, 1:45 - 2:30 PM
In theatre, all actors have one thing in common: they have a good use of
vocal variety, and a good body language.
Of course Toastmasters are no actors, although the same techniques can be
used to improve different skills of the experienced speaker.
And as people like to go to the theatre, like to be entertained, like to laugh, it
speaks for itself that theatre games and exercises are a good tool to train,
e.g., the vocal variety.
That's the purpose of this workshop: to experiment in a playful way with your
vocal variety, using space and some body language to go free and open up a
lot of possibilities.
And top of the bill, you can play a famous part from Shakespeare's 'Taming of
the shrew'!
You really can't miss this workshop...
Step out of your comfort zone of vocal variety and discover your unlimited
possibilities.

About Karin BRAL
CC, CL
Since Karin Bral was a little girl, she loved stories. As a teenager, she read a lot
of poetry and later she studied Word Art at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven.
Since 1993, she works at the Conservatory, first in Kortrijk, now in Bruges, her
hometown.
She teaches children and adults how to speak well, with a good articulation,
respiration and use of voice. Not only the technique of speaking is important
to her, it is also important to speak with the heart, to show your emotions, so
you can give a vivacious and moving presentation, either telling a story,
saying a poem or bringing a speech to life.
She is a member of Toastmasters Ghent since October 2012. Since January
2016 she is a dual member of Toastmasters Ghent and Toastmasters
Antwerp.

Table Topics for Newbies
Hollenfels room
Saturday, 11:30-12:15
Are you one of the many relatively new Toastmasters who dread being picked
for a Table Topic? Do you dry up after the first thirty seconds because you
can't think of anything to say? Do you experience the same problems when
your boss asks for your views during a meeting at work?
Well, don't worry! Once your learn some of the tricks of the trade from this
interactive workshop, you will quickly gain confidence and enjoy participating
in impromptu speaking. You will be able to draw on some of the lessons
learned from the stage. You will see how you can cope with virtually any
topic, thanks to a few simple devices which will trigger your memory, your
opinions and your concerns. You will learn how to liven up your talks with
snippets from everyday life or with something to make people laugh.
Mini Table Topics sessions will allow volunteers to put these ideas into
practice. Time permitting, there will be a summary presentation in French at
the end of the workshop.

Practice Pals
Giving and Receiving Feedback
in the Brainstorming Stage
Fischbach room
Saturday, 11:30-12:15
Each speech starts as the tiniest seed of an idea. This workshop will cover the
use of gentle and positive feedback in the brainstorming stage.
A normal Toastmasters speech evaluation suits a fully grown speech, but a
new idea that is still in the brainstorming stage needs a different touch and
different feedback. While a normal Toastmaster's evaluation includes helpful
suggestions to improve, Practice Pals offer unconditional acceptance in this
early stage of brainstorming.
The goal of this workshop is to actively demonstrate this special
brainstorming with a partner and to encourage everyone to learn how to
develop new speech ideas using this technique.
Hopefully, everyone will leave this workshop with at least one new Practice
Pal, who can help in the early stages of developing an idea into a speech.

Motivating Volunteers: It's All about SWEAT

The X-Factor of Life:
Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
Schengen II room
Sunday, 10:00-10:45 AM
“Life is not about you; it’s about the people around you.” And that is where
emotional intelligence comes in: how to better understand and get along with
other people. Although some people are naturally more emotionally
intelligent than others, you can develop emotional intelligence even if you are
not born with it.
Your emotional intelligence is the basis for a variety of different skills — it
impacts most everything you say and do each day. Emotional intelligence is
the best predictor of performance in the workplace and the strongest driver
of leadership and personal excellence. Increased emotional intelligence will
improve team performance; improve decision making; reduce stress and
increase your personal well-being.
At the end of this workshop, participants will have an insight on the four
elements of emotional intelligence, and tips on how to work on these
different skills.
