PRESIDENT’S REPORT
President’s Report
It is with great pleasure that I present this report for the 2010/11 cricket
season. This season as you know has marked the 50th Anniversary of Diggers
Ex-Services Cricket Club, A feat unmatched by any other local Cricket Club.
It is with great pride I have led the club throughout this season which has
again been another successful outing for our junior teams. Firstly I must say a
huge thank you to our Club and Historical Committee’s for successfully
guiding us through what has been our biggest administrative season to date.
A big thanks must also go to our major sponsor the CEX Club for the support
they have offered throughout this season. Individual team sponsors have also
played an important financial role in our success.
This season marked the second outing for our Milo In2Cricket Campaign. To
celebrate we more than doubled our past season efforts to field 33 Milo
cricketers who along with our newly appointed co-ordinator Joe Willman had
a whale of a time. A big thanks to Joe for his efforts here. We could not have
pulled this off without you.
Our U10’s have grown an extra leg this season with the introduction of a 3rd
side and were once again dominant throughout the year. It would be a
brave soldier to try and convince these kids they are in a so called “non
competitive arena”. They are counting I can assure you.
The U12 competition this season was absolutely dominated by Diggers. We
finished first and second and went on to contest the grand final in true
Diggers spirit. Ben in the end guided his older and more experienced
Stingrays outfit to the title while Hoady’s fresh faced Scorpions outperformed
all that was expected of them. These two sides have certainly done the club
proud this season. It’s such a shame there had to be a runner up in the end.
Congratulations guys.
On to the U14’s competition where our lads put in a valiant effort all season
only to go down at the final hurdle. May have missed lynch pin Luke Corlis in
the GF but overall a tremendous effort the club is very proud of.
To our U16’s who could probably consider themselves a little unlucky this
season. Undone by the weather and a little board room cricket in the end
the boys also put in a spirited performance this season. With just one more
season of junior cricket remaining for this talented outfit, I’m certain they
have some unfinished business to attend to. Congratulations to Shane Brooks
who has successfully guided these young men through the entire junior

program. The guys will I’m sure, be forever grateful for your efforts here. The
Diggers Ex-Services Cricket Club certainly is. Well done guys.
On the representative scene we were once again well represented with
players to numerous to mention representing the CHDJCA at local Inter
District level. Players who progressed beyond include Trent Dierick, Jacob
Corlis, Jarod Reeves and Andrew Hoad at NCCC level, with Luke Corlis and
Damon Rootes flying the Diggers flag for the North Coastal Zone.
Congratulations to all our representative players. You are all looking at a
bright future in this fantastic game.
All in all this season has been yet another successful one for the Club. We can
all be proud of the behaviour and sportsmanship of all our junior players,
coaches, managers and supporters. Diggers Ex-Services Cricket Club prides
itself on its commitment to Junior Cricket and we should all be very proud of
where we sit today. The largest and longest standing Cricket Club in Coffs
Harbour.
Congratulations to you all, enjoy your off season and I look forward to seeing
you return next season.
Yours in Cricket

COACH’S REPORT
For my first foray into coaching any type of sport, I was lucky enough to have
a great group of young men to look after this season. I wasn’t sure what to
expect at the start of the season, but the fact that half the side had played
the previous season, and the other half had played Milo cricket before, it
really made things easier. A big thanks goes to Steve for all his help
throughout the season and for training all 3 teams every week, along with the
assistance of Jordan. I’d also like to thank Paul for taking the boys when I was
away, for keeping the stats up to date, and for umpiring almost every week. I
really appreciated it. Thanks also to the parents for providing support either
umpiring, scoring, washing the shirts or giving encouragement from the
boundary – you can all be proud of the efforts the boys put in each and
every week – I know I am.
Brock Symons – Captained the side and lead from the front with stylish
batting and extremely accurate fast bowling — was very capable in the field
or behind the stumps — great all- round competitor
Dylan Archibald –High energy batsman, bowler and fielder — was responsible
for many run outs due to regularly throwing down the stumps from many
accurate attempts — another all-round performer
Harry Hazel-Pickering –Started the season in the Milo program but was
called into the side and showed a real willingness to learn, and gave 100%
every week with a huge smile on his face — keep it up
Harry Ranieri – Seemed to enjoy taking the wicket keeping gloves at every
opportunity and was pretty handy behind the stumps — consistently solid with
bat and ball, and claimed some nice catches in the field
Jake Tarplee –First season in after being introduced to the game through
Milo. cricket last year, and struggled with the step up early, but really showed
improvement with both bat and ball through the season
Joel Brisenden — Missed a fair portion of the season, but really troubled
batsmen with his flighty spinners when given the chance - also knew how to
throw the willow around
North Coast Stockyards Hurricanes
Diggers Under 10’s
COACH’S REPORT (cont’d)
Robert Mailey — Found some late season form with the bat, finding the
boundary regularly, and really improved his bowling — all that practising in
the back yard with the old man really did pay off
Sam Matten — Without scouring the scorebook and to my knowledge, was
the only player with the distinction of bowling a hat trick, which was at Nana
Glen — well done Sam — can also bat well when he gets his eye in
Thomas Allom — Some very tidy bowling performances through the season
backed up by some big hitting with the bat, and great speed, in the field
showcased the abilities of this little dynamo — great commitment
Thank you all again for your efforts this season, and I hope you enjoyed it as
much as I did, and look forward to seeing you all again next season.

COACH’S REPORT
The Cyclones Under 10’s enjoyed a tremendous year’s cricket. Not even the
frequent losses at the start of the season could dampen their enthusiasm. As
the season progressed there was a huge improvement in their game. Each
experienced moments of strong batting. The faithful supporting parents
thoroughly enjoyed their tight fielding performances. A highlight for me was
the boys continual chatting, instructing and especially encouraging each
other. So through the losses and the wins the boys remained a team. The
parents were so proud of their boys.
The boys and parents of U10C are especially grateful to Steve and the team
for their Friday coaching and to the hard working committee of Diggers
Cricket Club.
There’s an old saying that “it matters not if you win or lose, but how you play
the game” – and it’s an honour and a privilege to be associated with a
group of people who play the game so well.

COACH’S REPORT
Well here we at the end of what is for most of you a last hurrah in the U10’s. I
have had the pleasure of coaching the core of this outfit now for 3
consecutive years. During that time I have seen this side come on in leaps
and bounds from their humble beginnings. I feel confident that those who
move into the more competitive U12 environment next season are more than
ready. I must give a huge thanks to the parental contingent who has assisted
with the thankless tasks of scoring, umpiring, washing of shirts and simply
supporting these future stars week in week out. Without that support life
becomes very difficult. I was pleased to welcome new comers, Carey Wear,
Harrison Mounter, Ty Adams and Jake Thompson to the side this year. Thanks
also to our Jake ”The Midget” Meakins for filling in when we were short. As it
turned out most Saturdays!
As a coach I could not ask for a better bunch of young men and a little lady
to look after for the season. I witnessed some huge steps and massive
improvement from the whole side this season. Our kids can be proud of their
efforts throughout the year and I hope they all return for another season next
time round.
Nathan “Have-a-Chat” Kelly
Great season this year Nathan. As soon as we worked out that you, Harrison
and that other Nathan had to be separated in the field we were in business.
Some huge improvement in you game this year mate. Well done!!
Harrison “Hop-a-Long” Mounter
Watch that last step. It’s a doozy!! A handy left arm bowler doing all sorts with
the ball. Can smack it too when in the mood. Seriously though Harrison! Next
time you break your foot can you tell mum.
Ty “You Blokes Will be Right” Adams
Left us in the lurch mid season after signing a lucrative deal with Hoady’s U12
Scorpions only to find the grass was no greener. I’m happy to say Ty saw the
light and returned the very next week to continue his onslaught on the U10’s.
Great first year Ty.

COACH’S REPORT (cont’d)
Joseph “You Will Buy my I-Pod” Miller
Some work needed on the negotiating skills but another solid performance
from Joey this season. Also did a great job of keeping the daisies down at
Narranga while fielding. Keep trying to flog that i-pod mate. You’ll find a
sucker soon enough.
Carey “Golden Girl” Wear
Great to see a Wear back in Diggers clothing this year. Carey had a cracker
of a season and simply could do no wrong. From direct hit run outs to pin
point accuracy with the ball Carey had a great season. Not shy about
smacking the boys over deep mid wicket either. Well done this year Carey.
Dane “Where Are You?” Hopkinson
A season tragically cut short by a family move to Harvey Bay Dane put in yet
another solid performance before his departure. I will say I’m not to
impressed about having to wash the shirts after Christmas though Dane.
Congrats Mate and god luck with your new move.
Luke “Get Me Some New Glasses” Meakins
Still all over Dad with the boundary count at Narranga. I can’t believe you left
it to the last game for your top score though mate. Or maybe you could see
again after I picked up your new glasses. Keep abusing that ball on the string
and you’ll go places. Well played this year Lukey.
Jack “The Drummer” Tompkins
I think the drums may have claimed a cricketer in Jack. A solid performance
pre Christmas but we were tempted to send out the search party in the New
Year. Hope to see you back again one day Jack.
Nathan “Tony Barber” Hillier
Although the batting form was pretty good, nobody could possibly rival
Nathan’s ability to ask a continual stream of questions completely unrelated
to cricket. Some massive improvements in your game this year though
Nathan. Congrats on a great season and we’ll no doubt hear you next year.

Diggers Under 10’s
COACH’S REPORT (cont’d)
Jake “Loose Cannon” Thompson
Our very own wild child in Jake. If only I could harness just some of his energy.
A handy replacement for Dane after Christmas though.
Jacob “Midget” Meakins
As a parent I was dreading the day when I had to tell Jake the side was full
and he’d have to sit out today. Thankfully more often than not we were in
need of some re-enforcement. Jake made many a short leg fieldsman
underestimate his pull shot. Also took the best diving catch seen all year on
the boundary. Pretty sure the big kids enjoyed having him around. Will be a
force in years to come!!
In summary I wish to once again thank our parent support group and the
boys for a fun filled action packed season with the Diggers U10 Tornados. I
hope to see you all back next year to continue our little adventure. Well done
to all and have a great off season.
See you all next year!

COACH’S REPORT
Well, what a year. We started the year with a young team who were not
expected to win many games. That looked to be right after our first hit out
against the other diggers under 12’s side, The Stingrays. I was in hospital with
appendicitis and I got a message from another parent who took the kids for
that game, that we got flogged....great start.
I got out of hospital mid week and we trained very well as a team , so when
the kids turned up on Saturday they were so energetic and wouldn’t shut up I
knew they were there to play. Suddenly from a distance I hear a voice, ”Hey
Kenny, we’re here!” and there was Jarod. ”Where gunna smash them aren’t
we?” I Replied, “Yes Jarod, of course,” and we did. We had many kids this
season who will never be forgotten by all who watched our team this year.
Ethan Atkinson was our Mr Cricket. He could field anywhere, bowl well, and
even wicket keep.
Tyler Atkinson was our We-Man, always into mischief, bowled tight and well
all season, keep it up little man.
Casey Egar (THE WILD THING)Batted with force and hit the ball hard. Bowled
very quick and at times got some valuable wickets. Just remember that day
at the nets, the cyclists will.
Jesse Ferrett was a prolific run scorer this season, he was second in the
aggregate and bowled well all year ,Well Done mate.
Brad Gordon was the brains of the team. Always in position and everyone will
remember that catch.
Andrew Hoad was our go to man. If we needed a wicket or keep it tight give
him the ball.
Ryler Maher was our power house middle order batter, he had a couple of
punishing innings this season, and in one of those he hit two powerful balls for
6. Keep swinging mate.
Cody Pelligrino bowled extremely well after the Christmas break, getting vital
wickets when needed, well done mate, you have done well.
Pacific Property Management Scorpions
Diggers Under 12’s
COACH’S REPORT (cont’d)
Kieran Cunningham left arm bowler who once he found out he wasn’t a
spinner bowled well and accurate.solid batter who had a top score of 20
against colts well done mate.
Jarod Reeves was the mouth. Never shut up which is always a good thing.
Kaitlin Reeves was consistant all year round, very unlucky with her bowling,
had at least one catch dropped a game. Keep achieving your goals, Kait.
Tate Rutter was another one of our young kids who was a star in a number of
games this year with his tight bowling, keep up the good work mate, you
bowled well.
It was a shame we didn’t get over the line in the Grand Final (losing by 4 runs)
but we were beaten by a better team on the day. Keep your heads up as
we all know how young you all are. The night was even more enjoyable and I
would like to thank Ray and Nikki Ferret for their hospitality that night.
Finally to all the parents who helped me throughout the season, Judith
scoring every week, Tony sending text messages, and to all the other parents
thank you, without all of you helping out and cheering for your kids we
wouldn’t have had this great little team.
REMEMBER THERE IS NO I IN TEAM.
THANKS HOADY.

COACH’S REPORT
The Diggers U14’s enjoyed a season of contrasting fortunes. The first half
turned proved to be a battle with the team crashing to six consecutive
defeats. However the boys showed real character after the Christmas break
and went on a winning streak that Ricky Ponting could only dream about.
This included a one run victory against Colts and a draw against the
undefeated Sawtell which gave both coaches heart palpitations.
Finishing the competition in third place the Diggers Boys took on 2nd place
Northern Districts in the semi final. The sledging from the Northern team was
fierce but Diggers remained cool and calm under pressure to claim victory by
three runs.
Into the Grand Final against Colts but the day was one to forget. Colts got off
to a flyer posting 110 and this proved to be a task too large for the Diggers
boys. A great effort to make the Grand Final and despite the result the team
took the loss with their usual style and grace. No doubt the BBQ and drinks
after helped soften the defeat.
Overall the boys showed tremendous team spirit throughout the season and
were a pleasure to coach. Thanks to our sponsors Florent & Mundey Real
Estate and all the parents for your assistance in coaching, umpiring, scoring,
washing shirts and most importantly supporting your boys. A special thank you
to Brett Rootes for your help in teaching the boys the finer aspects of the
game.
Here are some of the player highlights for the season:
Calum Ball
Can bat, field and wicket keep with style and made plenty of batsmen
nervous with some fiery pace bowling spells. Took the most catches for the
team this season and made a stylish 26 n/o in the grand final giving the team
some chance of victory.
Brock Brindle
First season in cricket made memorable with some beautiful catches. Snared
a few wickets when we really needed them, a great team player and
improving each week with the bat. Took a classic catch in the Grand final
under pressure.

COACH’S REPORT (cont’d)
Tristian Brindle
Like his brother a season where he improved as each game went by. A solid
effort bowling with a season best of 1 / 4. Hit the stumps from the boundary
running out a Sawtell batsmen who is still in shock and gave the team a huge
morale boost
Luke Corlis
Silky, smooth and stylish in the field, the team’s most powerful batsmen with a
super low bowling economy rate of 1.95. Was a huge loss for the team after
breaking his arm just before the finals. Always positive in the field and a great
influence on our new players.
Liam Dougherty
A up and down season that included some flashes of brilliance and
frustrating moments. Highlights included a competition best of 4/5 and tight
0/3 in the grand final. Made a gritty 26 n/o against Colts despite coping a
few balls below the belt.
Tyrone Jones
Our opening bowler who was super consistent and also started to find some
rhythm with the bat towards the season end. A pleasure to be around and
trains regularly in the nets. His 2 wickets and 10 runs turned the match in our
semi against Northern Districts.
Damon Rootes
Hugely talented cricketer with both bat and ball. Was the rock in our batting
line up and took some fantastic outfield catches. A 100 plus run partnership
with Luke Corlis was a season highlight along with a 54 average for the
season. A promising career in the game awaits.
Joel Rutter
Left arm spin bowler who comes around and through the umpire confusing
the batsmen before he lets go of the ball. Our sheik of tweak and king of spin
who was also the highest wicketaker in the competition with 12 scalps.
Excellent effort Joel

COACH’S REPORT (cont’d)
Jacob Sincock
The spearhead of our bowling attack with fast and accurate bowling spells.
Displays great attitude and always keen to learn. His low economy rate of
2.69 was just what we needed from our opening bowler. Will be a handful
next year in the U14’s.
Aden Smith
Despite limited appearances showed class in the field took with some great
catches. Deceptive bowler who preformed well in his first season of cricket.
His 1/1 against Northern Districts was a season highlight and also took 2
catches in the same game.
James Walker
A great season with the bat and proved a nightmare for Northern Districts
bowlers with four not out innings. Has a technically perfect bowling style and
always enthusiastic in the field. The ultimate team man and our player’s
player.
Jacob Wills
Mr Unpredictable, can take quick wickets and hit sixes at anytime. Has
improved greatly throughout the season especially with the ball. Quiet nature
but started to encourage his teammates towards the end of the season. Took
3/16 against Colts cleaning up three of their top batsmen. His big sixes in
training had everyone calling for protective helmets.
Kieran Long and Matt Sheldon
Two U12’s players who filled in during the final series, thanks boys for helping
us out, you both handled the pressure with class.

Diggers Under 16’s
MANAGER’S REPORT
The new U16 format of 20/20 on Thursday evenings was a success with plenty
of good matches being played. Overall the Diggers boys had a strong
season and had a good show of form towards the end of the season that
should have been rewarded with a final spot, however due to some fairly
poor/dodgy communication and administrative decisions at the association
level we were not given an opportunity to re-play the semi that was washedout after 5 balls were bowled. It was a very disappointing end to the season,
however the boys can hold their heads high and reflect upon an exciting
season of cricket with lots of big sixes, diving catches and plenty of stumps
being ripped out of the ground.
The team has largely been playing together since the U11’s, and they again
showed great team camaraderie and sportsmanship by playing the game
with a competitive and fair spirit. The boys can hold their heads high in the
way they conducted themselves this season and I was very impressed by the
respect they showed for the spirit of the game, as well as for the opposition,
umpires, scorers and coaches. The boys are a credit to the Diggers Cricket
Club.
I am very proud of all the boys in the team and would like to congratulate
the parent group who I have come to know closely over the years and who I
believe are largely responsible for instilling some great values in the boys
which will hold them in good stead for their future years.
Luke Corlis - Lukey had a strong season with both the bat and ball and is
simply outstanding in the field. Luke is a real game-winner on his day and
plays his cricket with a very natural and relaxed style with a cheeky grin. Luke
is a cricketer to look out for in the future.
Tim Newans – Timbo was a key player for the team with the bat, ball, gloves,
catching, fielding and assisting the captain. Once Tim got going with the bat
he was very devastating and dispatched leg side balls over the boundary
ropes with ease. Tim even showed that he did have some off-side shots as
well which often brought lots of claps, laughter and banter from his teammates.

Diggers Under 16’s
MANAGER’S REPORT (cont’d)
Damon Rootes – Damo showed strong form with the bat and gloves this
season and considering his young age he is one to look out for in the future
as he moves through the ranks. Damon has a very technically correct style
and shows great patience during an innings. He is as quick as a whippet
between the wickets and very good at pushing for that extra run.
Jacob Corlis – Captain Jaco led the team admirably this season and showed
great form with both the bat and ball. Jacob relished the opportunity to bat
at the top end of the order and when given the nod to push the run-rate
played some very big shots. His bowling speed and bounce made all
opposing batsmen quiver in their whites.
Bikram Kaler – Bicky is an enigmatic cricketing character with lots of wit and
flair and some of the funniest sledges I have heard. Bikram is a solid cricketer
with the bat and ball and produced some great catches during the season.
Once Bikram made a start with the bat he played some exciting and fluid
attacking strokes that absolutely punished the bowlers spirit. Handy with the
ball, his tweakers, particularly the “Vindaloo” delivery claimed many a prized
scalp.
Rory Tolhurst – Rory is a naturally gifted cricketer who had a great season with
the bat, ball and took many catches. Rory was ever dependable with the
bat and would quickly lift the run rate with a solid batting technique, a great
eye and quick running between wickets. His natural style makes batting look
easy and most of his shots were well timed and low risk. Rory also managed
to claim a lot of scalps with his medium pacers that mesmerized many an
opposition batsmen.
Oliver Horspool – Olly was a solid performer for the team with the bat, ball,
gloves and in the field. Oliver has a very sharp eye and showed great
aggression with the bat when needed and played some very big shots with
sound technique. His tweakers took many scalps and he also took many
catches behind the wickets to help clinche games.
NAB
Diggers Under 16’s
MANAGER’S REPORT (cont’d)
Andrew Brooks – Andy had a strong season with the bat and ball and made
the most of his opportunities. The highlight of his season was his innings of 30
no which included some very aggressive batting and surprised everyone
including his father the coach. Andy was also handy with the ball with a very
low economy rate.
Harry Rae – Harry is one of the most polite and well-mannered cricketers you
will find and is an absolute pleasure to coach. Harry’s biggest contribution to
the team this season was with the ball and he has developed into one of the
best young bowlers in the competition. Harry has a very fluid bowling action
and is very difficult for batsmen to play. Harry even managed to score a few
runs for the team when needed.
Connor White – Connor is a very un-selfish and respectful young cricketer who
made a positive impact this season. Connor took some outstanding outfield
catches and showed great poise under pressure. Connor loves his bowling
and took many a wicket with his fast pacers of Yorker length. Connor also
contributed with the bat when called upon with an aggressive mind-set and
played some very big shots.
Sam Hemer – The 7m run-up restriction didn’t save the opposition batsmen
from facing some ferociously quick and short bowling from the Sambo
express. Watching Sambo steam in brought back memories of Dennis Lillee,
with the same level of physicality and aggression. Sam’s run-up was wobbly
on occasion and nearly took out a few umpires as well. Sam took wickets at
a low economy rate and scored runs with the bat when needed.
Calum Ball – Cal was a great asset for the team this year and could always
be depended upon to contribute with the ball and took some classic
catches in the field. Calum was very un-selfish and did not get much of an
opportunity with the bat. Calum plays cricket with a relaxed style and
exudes confidence and poise. He has a very positive attitude with a good
sense of humour and when he stops growing will be an absolutely
intimidating figure to play against.

MANAGER’S REPORT (cont’d)
A special thanks to Brett Rootes for his huge contribution in umpiring this
season as well to Eric Horspool, Simon Hemer and Ritchie White who also
assisted. A big thank-you to Melinda Corlis and Jamie Newans who were
always very reliable in the scorer’s chair, as well as to the many other parents
who helped out along the way.
