ULM’S LAST TIME OUT: Jesse Carrier scored a career-high 27 points on Friday night, as the ULM
women’s basketball team took a 68-57 victory over Northwestern State inside Prather Coliseum. ULM
ended the contest with a 12-5 scoring run over the final five minutes, after falling behind by as many
as eight points in the second half.
OPPONENT’S LAST TIME OUT: The Centenary women’s basketball team dropped its fourth consecutive non- conference game to a Southland Conference foe, Sam Houston State, 74-49, on Friday.
SERIES HISTORY: ULM leads 12-1
LAST MEETING: ULM 76, Centenary 60 (Nov. 18, 2008)
QUICK HITTERS FROM ULM’S LAST GAME: •• Jesse Carrier scored a career-high 27 points, includ-
ing 7-for-7 at the charity stripe and 2-for-2 behind the 3-point line •• Jesse Carrier stole a career-high four
passes •• Sannisha Williams recorded her fifth career double-double, 14 points and 11 rebounds •• Priscilla
Mbiandja snapped her consecutive double-digit scoring streak, as she netted three points •• Larrie Williams recorded her fourth career double-digit scoring game, as she scored 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting ••
ULM scored a season-high 68 points, shooting a season-high 40.7 percent from the field •• ULM set new
season-highs in free throws made (17), free throws attempted (21), and free throw percentage (81.0)
WHOSE ON THE OTHER BENCH: Centenary enters with an 0-4 overall record falling by at least 15
points in all four games. The Ladies dropped their last contest, 74-49, to Sam Houston State on Friday
evening inside the Gold Dome. Centenary committed 30 turnovers and trailed by double-digits for most
of the contest. Anne Farrell scored a game-high 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting.
Centenary is led by Ashley jackson who is averaging 11.0 points per game, while Farrell is averaging 10.5 points per contest. Both players are averaging 7.5 board per game. The Ladies return nine letterwinners
and three starters from last year’s team that finished 4-25 overall and 1-16 in the Southland Conference.
Bojan Jankovic assumed the interim head coaching position in July after serving as an assistant the past
three years.
CARRIER SCORES IN A DIFFERENT FASHION: Most people know that Jesse Carrier can stroke the
long ball with the best of them, but Nov. 20, against Northwestern State she appeared to be going in a different direction. Carrier detoured from her usual offensive game, spotting up for 3-pointers, and decided
to take the ball to the rack. In the process she netted a career-high 27 points, including a perfect 7-for-7 at
the charity stripe and 2-for-2 from beyond the 3-point arc.
WHAT’S ON THE SCHEDULE NEXT FOR THE WARHAWKS: ULM will make its fourth-longest trek of
the season, 1,847 miles round-trip, when it leaves on Thanksgiving Day for El Paso, Texas. The Warhawks
will battle Youngstown State at 7 p.m. on Friday in the opening round of the Miner Thanksgiving Classic.
ULM will face either host-UTEP or Weber State on Saturday.
ENTERING A NEW HOME: When a player is told by their coach to pack up their things, the first thing
that runs through their mind is “what did I do wrong?” This time it was for a good reason, as members
of the Warhawks women’s basketball program were moving into their new locker room. ULM moved

HOME OPENING HIGHS AND LOWS: During
cided during the spring semester that she wanted to
continue her basketball playing career and decided
on Monroe, La., and ULM. Mbiandja transferred from
Odessa Junior College, where she was an all-region
and all-conference player after averaging a teamhigh 10.4 points and 7.4 rebounds during her sophomore season. She also finished second on the team
in assists (80) and steals (68).
head coach Mona Martin’s 15 years at ULM, her
teams have delivered a few home-opening thrashings and have received a few thumpings. During
Martin’s 14 home-openers she is 9-5 overall and has
won the last six inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Below
is a list of the top three defeats and victories during
season openers:

WARHAWKS - TWO OF A KIND: Around the
country there are many interesting collegiate athletic nicknames, but the Warhawk logo is among the
rarest. Only one other university in the country bares
the same Warhawk nickname that ULM uses - University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The most common
nickname is an Eagle, as a whopping 55 schools use
it for their sports teams.
AND THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AGAIN: The War-
hawks have encountered a rare occurrence for the
second time in as many years -- the lights went out.
On Tuesday in San Marcos, Texas, ULM experienced
a 35 minute delay after a car accident cut off power
to Strahan Coliseum. It didn’t affect the Warhawks as
they went on for a 54-48 victory. Last season, ULM
witnessed a power outage in its own building (FantEwing Coliseum) on Nov. 29, 2008. A two hour and
six minute delay occurred just 44 seconds into the
second half of the non-conference game against Tulane. The Warhawks weren’t able to pull out the win,
62-60, but Sumar Leslie did score a career-high 19
points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 3-for-6 from
behind the arc.
WHAT A STREAK THAT WAS: Senior captain
Jesse Carrier is known for her outside shooting abilities. Entering the season-opener against Tulane she
had an impressive streak of 23-consecutive games
with a made 3-pointer, which was a school record.
Along the way she finished with 19 games of two or
more 3-pointers, including a 5-for-10 performance
against Louisiana-Lafayette last season. While her
streak was impressive, all streaks must come to an
end, and hers did against Tulane. Carrier finished
0-for-5 from behind the arc and scored eight points
in the contest.
DOUBLING UP: Last season Sannisha Williams
went on a tear in the second half of the season and
finished with four double-double performances.
Priscilla Mbiandja became the second player on
the roster to record a double-double, as she did it
against Texas State. Below is a list of double-double
efforts:

post-game interview needs. On the road, the Warhawks’ locker room will remain closed - ULM will
adhere to the home team’s postgame interview
policies.
MBIANDJA REPRESENTS CAMEROON: Not
very often does a player get to represent their home
country, but Priscilla Mbiandja was able to do just
that this past summer and during the 2007 FIBA African Championship. While playing for the Cameroon
National Team in 2007, she averaged 6.9 points, 3.6
rebounds, and a team-high 3.8 assists per game, as
Cameroon finished with a 3-2 record. This past summer Mbiandja tallied three points, three rebounds,
and two rebounds as Cameroon fell in the qualifying round.

decrease in the miles it will travel compared to last
season. During the 2009-10 campaign, ULM will see
13,008 miles of the American countryside. The Warhawks will in all travel more during their non-conference schedule than last season (4,297 to 3,567), but

will endure less miles on the road than last season

SEASON-OPENING HIGHS AND LOWS: Dur-
ing head coach Mona Martin’s 15 years at ULM, her
teams have delivered a few season-opening thrashings and have received a few thumpings. With Friday’s night 34-point loss to Tulane, it was the fourth
worst loss in a season opener. Below is a list of the
top three defeats and victories during season openers:
2001-02 L, 47-99
2008-09 L, 38-77
1999-00 L, 48-85
at Arkansas

2007-08 W, 77-40 McNeese State
2005-06 W, 80-60 Memphis
2006-07 W, 71-53 at McNeese State
WORKING HARD ON THE GLASS: Currently
there are two Warhawk players who have recorded
double-digit rebounding efforts in a contest during
their careers. Sannisha Williams dispelled the ‘sophomore slump’ myth last season and hauled in six
double-digit rebounding contests, including a career-high 18 boards on the road against LouisianaLafayette. The only other player to grab double-digit
rebounds is Shannon Davis, who did so in the season-opener against Tulane this season. She hauled
in 10 rebounds, including two on the offensive glass.
WHOSE THAT COACHING?: During the offseason
former co-associate head coach Robert Dallimore
left ULM for the associate head coaching position
at Sun Belt Conference rival UALR. With his departure the Warhawks performed a national search and hired Amber Magner. Magner brings 10 years of
coaching experience to Mona Martin’s staff, including seven years as the head coach of the women’s
basketball program at California State-Monterey
Bay. Magner’s duties include film breakdown, opponent scouting, scheduling, assisting with camp
duties and assisting in recruiting.
SHE WILL BE MISSED: Last season when the
Warhawks got into a crunch they could always rely
on senior guard Lottie Moore. This season ULM will
have to turn to one of its many guards to fill the void.
Moore was the do-it-all player for the Warhawks last
season as she became the fifth player in ULM history
to accumulate 300 points, 100 rebounds, and 100
assists in a season. If you throw the 70 steals into the
equation she is the only player to accumulate those
numbers during a seasons time. Moore also finished
her career ranked eighth all-time in steals (182). She
also moved into three all-time single season statistical categories - free throws attempted (6th, 175),
game started (t8th, 30), and steals (10th, 70).
FINAL RPI RANKINGS: ULM finished the season
ranked 180th in the NCAA RPI (ratings percentage
index) rankings, but that was after the Warhawks
were ranked as high as No. 10 to start the year. In
addition, Realtimerpi.com had ULM with a final RPI
ranking of 178, to go along with the 137th strongest
schedule in the country. Another website, Collegerpi.com/women, had a final ULM RPI ranking of 178
and the 137th strongest schedule in the country.
THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS: Head coach Mona
Martin enters her 15th season at the helm of the
ULM women’s basketball program. During her time
in Monroe, she has racked up 209 victories, includ-
ulmwarhawks.com
ing seven winning seasons and two seasons of 20plus wins. Martin is well on her way to toppling former ULM head coach Linda Harper, who holds the
all-time women’s basketball coaching wins record
with 213 victories, which she accomplished from
1978-90.

WATCH OUT, SHE IS DEADLY: People who know
ULM women’s basketball, are familiar with the outside shooting ability of Jesse Carrier. Since Carrier
worked her way into the starting lineup her sophomore year, she has become the go-to shooter when
it comes to the 3-point shot. She is not only one of
the best 3-point shooters in the Sun Belt Conference, but in the country , as she finished last season
ranked 67th in the country in 3-point percentage
(37.2) - which was the eighth best single-season
mark in ULM history. On three occasions in her career
she has nailed five long balls in a contest. Currently,
Carrier ranks in several ULM statistical categories -fourth, 3-point field goals made (134), fifth, 3-point
field goal percentage (36.3), and fourth, 3-point field
goals attempted (369). If Carrier continues at the
rate in which she knocked down the long ball from a
year ago, she should own the all-time 3-point makes
record by mid-season.
DOWN AND OUT: The injury bug has struck the
Think Pink campaign. In addition, during last year’s
WBCA Think Pink Week over 800,000 fans helped
out by donating a total of nearly $1,000,000 for the
awareness of breast cancer and research.
ULM roster before the season even started. During a
preseason conditioning drill, junior Kassie Courtney
went down with a torn Achilles tendon and will be
out for the season. Also, senior Ashley Wallis is still
in the recovery phase from an minor offseason knee
surgery (scope).
COACH MARTIN SECOND IN SUN BELT: Mona
Martin’s impressive coaching record spans much
more than the annals of ULM. Entering the 2009-10
season, Martin ranks second amongst all Sun Belt
Conference coaches in terms of coaching victories
in their current position with 209 wins. FIU’s Cindy
Russo ranks first with 569 victories.
WARHAWKS ON THE TUBE: The Warhawks were
selected to host a Sun Belt Conference television
game for the second-consecutive season. On Sunday, Jan. 17th, the Warhawks will host Denver inside
Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Last season ULM routed Troy,
70-42, in front of a regional CSS audience.
FIRING OUT OF THE GATES: ULM has fired out
HOW MANY ARE THERE?: Last season was a diffi-
of the gates the last six seasons, including the 200910 season, in non-conference action to the tune of
a 41-17 record and .707 winning percentage. The
Warhawks 41-17 record against non-conference opponents is the best six-season stretch under Mona
Martin. Her best non-conference season came three
years ago when her team went 10-1 and won by an
average of 11.7 points.
cult one at times for head coach Mona Martin, as she
had six freshmen on her roster. Those six freshmen
tied for the second largest class under the direction
of Martin -- twice before she had coached a class of
eight players. To make matters worse, last season
Martin’s starting point guard was a duel role filled by
Sumar Leslie and Elizabeth Torres. This season those
freshmen are now sophomores and have a year of
experience under their belts.
COACH MARTIN IN NOVEMBER: Head coach
Mona Martin enters with five-consecutive winning
seasons when playing in the month of November.
Over the past three seasons she has posted a 16-5
overall record in November. Her teams are a combined 25-32 (43.9 percent) in 15 seasons.
WE WANT TO PLAY AT HOME: Every team in the
NCAA would like to play all of its game at home and
that holds especially true for ULM. The Warhawks
finished the season 10-4 overall and 6-3 against
league foes inside the friendly confines of FantEwing Coliseum. During Martin’s career she is 11966 (64.3 percent) all-time at home and 83-43 (65.9
percent) at home during conference play. Martin’s
best overall season at home came during the 200001 season when the Warhawks went 14-3 overall at
home and 11-0 inside the friendly confines of FantEwing Coliseum during conference play.
RETURNING EXPERIENCE: ULM returns 12 let-
terwinners from last season, including four-of-five
starters. Sumar Leslie/Elizabeth Torres, Jesse Carrier,
Sannisha Williams, and Shannon Davis have started
a combined 172 during their careers. In total, ULM
returns:

blocks: TICKLED PINK FOR A SECOND YEAR: Last sea-
son the Warhawks had the special privilege of supporting a great cause, the Susan G. Komen Breast
Cancer Foundation. The Warhawks, for a secondconsecutive season, will host a WBCA Think Pink
game when they battle Western Kentucky on Feb. 3,
at 7 p.m. Last season there were over 1,250 schools
and organizations that participated in the WBCA

YOUR SPOKESWOMEN: Jesse Carrier and Shan-
non Davis were chosen as the captains of the 200910 ULM season, as voted on by the players. This

marks the first time Carrier and Davis have been
honored with this title.
DUAL POINT GUARD ROLE: The Warhawks have
the luxury of returning both of their point guards
from last season. Then-freshmen Sumar Leslie and
Elizabeth Torres were thrust into the starting point
guard spot after ULM lost a pair of point guards during the season prior. Leslie and Torres combined to
start 19 games and average 5.5 points and 2.0 assists
per game.
WARHAWKS INK TRIO FOR 2010-11: During
the NCAA’s fall signing period, the ULM women’s
basketball program inked a trio of players for the
2010-11 season.
Jade Benton, a 5-foot-11 center, averaged 8.3
points and 10 rebounds for Bastrop High School. Her
efforts helped the Lady Rams to a 16-11 overall record last season and a regional playoff berth. Benton
also earned second team all-district 2-4A honors as
a junior according to maxpreps.com. “Jade is a true
center who uses her strength and physical play to
her advantage. It was important for us to bring in a
post player for the future that has great rebounding
skills,” Martin said.
Jasmine Shaw, a 5-foot-10 guard, averaged 10
points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals
per game while playing for Marcus High School in
Flower Mound, Texas. She earned all-district honors
last season while playing for head coach Kit Kyle.
“Jasmine is a tremendous guard who is calm with
the ball. She is a physical guard who can handle the
ball well under pressure,” Martin said.
Ashleigh Simmons, a 6-foot-1 forward, averaged
a team-high 15 points, along with 10.2 rebounds
and 2.1 steals per game, while playing for Hawkins
High School in Hawkins, Texas. She earned district
MVP honors last season in basketball and also an
outstanding track & field athlete, earning a state
champion medal in the 400 meters. “Ashleigh is a
very athletic post player who will make an immediate impact for us. She will not only help improve our
depth, but will add much needed size to our roster
in the post,” Martin said.

NCAA CHANGING THE RULES: The NCAA, in its
yearly effort to better the game, has made adjustments to nine rules for the 2009-10 season. Notable
rule changes that the average basketball fan will see
are:
••• Permit officials to use the monitor to determine
whether a flagrant foul occurred. When it is determined that a flagrant foul did not occur but an intentional personal or a (men) contact technical foul
or (women) player/substitute technical foul for dead
ball contact occurred, those fouls shall be penalized
accordingly.
••• Assess a maximum of one administrative technical foul for any changes made to the scorebook,
except when the changes are necessitated by obvious injury or illness, blood on the uniform or to replace a designated starter to shoot a technical-foul
free throw after the 10-minute time limit prior to the
start of the game and until the game has ended.
••• After an initial jump ball or a jump ball for the
start of an extra period(s) when possession is not
gained by either team which would establish the
alternating-possession procedure, a jump ball shall
take place between any two players.

LAST RECAP: ULM 76, Centenary 60 (Nov. 18, 2008)
SHREVEPORT, La.—Jesse Carrier led three ULM players in double
figures as the Warhawks defeated Centenary 76-60 Tuesday night
in non-conference action at the Gold Dome in Shreveport, La.
The sharp-shooting junior netted 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting
from the floor, including 4-of-8 from beyond the 3-point line. The
Warhawks’ lone senior Lottie Moore added 13 points and freshman Larrie Williams dropped in 10.
ULM’s (1-1) high-pressure defense forced 27 Centenary (0-2) turnovers on the night, which the Warhawks turned into 38 points.
ULM also dominated the glass outrebounding the Ladies 48-34,
including a 24-15 advantage on the offensive end, which led to 38
second-chance points.
Cierra Bush led Centenary with a game-high 16 points. Anna Farrell added 13 points and nine rebounds, while Ashley Jackson had
12 points and seven rebounds.
After opening the second half hitting on just one of their first
seven shots, the Warhawks connected on five of their next six attempts – including a pair of Carrier 3-pointers – to stake a 52-44
lead with just over 11 minutes to play.

into their fourth season as members of the Sun Belt
Conference.
Last year, Martin led the Warhawks to a 7-11 Sun
Belt record and 15-16 overall record. The Warhawks
made history in the opening round of the conference
tournament as they knocked off the defending
champions, Western Kentucky, for their first ever Sun
Belt Tournament victory. There were many highlights
from last season, but one that stands out is Martin’s
200th victory as the Warhawks head coach.
“Coaching at ULM is special to me because of the
support from the administration,” Martin said. “I am
proud of our players because of the high graduation
that we have attained while I have been here. It means
a lot to have
quality people graduate from this program.”
In their final season in the Southland Conference
(2005-06), the Martin-led Warhawks advanced
to the O’Reilly Auto Parts/Southland Conference
Tournament semifinals. ULM played Stephen F. Austin
for the second time to overtime in eight days, coming
up one point shy of their second consecutive trip to
championship game.
In 2004-05, Martin led ULM to a Southland
Conference regular season co-championship and a 20win season (22-8) for only the seventh time in school
history. Martin coached former Warhawks standout
Nina Randle to a new ULM and SLC career record
in steals on her way toward earning all-Southland
Conference first team and SLC All-Tournament
honors. Randle went on to play professionally in
Switzerland. Michelle Biley, then a junior, also received

all-Southland honors, and Aishie Banks, also a junior in
2004-05, was named to the SLC all-Tournament team.
During Martin’s time at ULM, the Warhawks
have experienced great individual success. Martin
has guided 18 individuals who were named to allconference teams, including four on the All-SLC first
team. Most recently, Lottie Moore was named to the
all-Sun Belt Conference third team. Martin was twice
named the SLC Coach of the Year, picking up the honor
in 1998 and again in 2005.
Entering the 2009-10 campaign, Martin’s 207
career wins at ULM are the second-most by a Sun Belt
Conference head coach at their current school.
Having her program in a situation where it can
vie for the conference title year-in and year-out is
exactly what Martin envisioned when she arrived at
ULM in 1995 after compiling a 120-70 (.631) record
in six seasons at West Monroe High School.
Martin began her career in 1976 at Natchitoches,
La., Central High School, only three months after
graduating from Northwestern State with a bachelor’s
degree in elementary education and physical
education. Martin and Central got started together
because the school was about to play its inaugural
season of girls’ basketball and needed a coach. The
combination was a great success.
In 11 years, Martin guided NCHS to a 266-91
record, a winning percentage of .746. All but one of
her teams went into the state playoffs, four of them
went to the state final four and three—the 1981, 1986
and 1987 squads—won
state championships.
Her 1986 team went 36-0, won the state title
and finished the season ranked No. 8 in the nation.
Martin was not only voted the state’s top coach but
the National Coach of the Year.
The Lady Chiefs never finished lower than second
in the district under Martin, winning six district
crowns and finishing second five times. She was
named district Coach of the Year four times and
Louisiana Coach of the Year three times (1982,
1986, 1987). Her last two Natchitoches Central
teams were 70-3 and won state titles both years.
In May 1987, Martin entered collegiate coaching
when she was named associate head coach at
Northwestern State. In her two years, she helped
the Lady Demons go 38-20 and make their firstever NCAA Tournament appearance.
From Northwestern State, Martin moved to West
Monroe High School where success followed. In
her six years at WMHS, she put the Lady Rebels in
the state playoffs every year and won three District
2-5A championships. Her 1994 squad went to the
state finals and Martin received her fourth state
Coach of the Year award.
Her coaching career also includes 10 seasons of
AAU basketball coaching experience, serving as
co-head coach of the New Orleans-based Domino’s
team. Her first AAU team advanced to the 1986
national championship game. Her final squad, just
before she was named ULM head coach, finished
seventh among 77 teams at the 1995 national
championships in Dallas.
At ULM, she has a record of 207-196 overall and
134-114 in league contests as a member of the
Southland and Sun Belt Conferences. After opening
with two 5-21 seasons, she guided her 1997-98 team
to a 19-9 record and a second-place finish in the
Southland, earning Martin Coach of the Year awards
from both the Southland Conference and the Louisiana
Sports Writers Association. Her 2000-01 team was 20-9
and again second in the Southland.
Martin’s overall head coaching record for 14
years at ULM and 17 as a high school coach is 593-356
(.625).
The ULM coach, is married to Mike, a design
engineer for Superlift in West Monroe. Born in New
Orleans, Martin grew up in Houston, Texas, and
graduated from Waltrip Senior High School. In addition
to her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern State, she
also received a master of science degree in physical
education from the same institution in 1979. 7
