More than 130 years after we first opened our doors, we remain a vital resource when people need emergency financial assistance, support in navigating a crisis, help in securing affordable health insurance, healthcare or housing, help in finding sideline work and new careers, and much more. Our programs and services are more necessary than ever. In 2014 The Actors Fund helped a record 21,993 people—which represents a staggering 23% increase in only one year—and we distributed more than $2 million in emergency financial assistance. Your generosity assures that we’ll continue to offer support and guidance to everyone working throughout the performing arts and entertainment community, whether they are on stage, on either side of the camera, in the writers’ room, in the wings, in the shop, or in the studio. We thank our Board of Trustees for their diligent dedication to our community, as well as the tireless work of our caring staff and devoted volunteers. We are especially grateful to the thousands of donors who give so generously to help those in need: without them, we couldn’t do what we need to do every single day. We also extend a very special thank-you to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. In 2014, BC/EFA contributed $4,603,000, bringing their total support since 1988 to an incredible $73 million. We are deeply grateful for BC/EFA’s commitment to the entertainment community, and their leadership in assuring The Fund is there for everyone who needs our help. To learn more about our services and special events, to make a donation, or to hear more about the many ways you can join us in helping entertainment professionals in need, visit us at actorsfund.org. When entertainment and performing arts professionals are looking for sideline work or new careers, they know The Career Center at The Actors Fund is on top of current workforce trends. A Broad Scope of Activities and Programs Uniting to Help More Dancers Nationally The Career Center at The Actors Fund has a new name! Formerly The Actors Fund Work Program, our updated name reflects the broad scope of activities, programs and services available to everyone in our community throughout their working lives. The Actors Fund and Career Transition For Dancers have joined together as one organization to help even more dancers across the country. CTFD’s mission and programs are in alignment with two existing Actors Fund programs: The Dancers’ Resource, founded by two-time Tony Award® winner Bebe Neuwirth, which addresses the emotional and practical needs of injured dancers and dancer wellness, and The Career Center at The Actors Fund. The Career Center assists our community in identifying and finding meaningful sideline employment or, if desired, a new career, with a goal of helping people increase their economic stability through alternative forms of work. Through one-on-one career counseling, seminars, workshops and panel discussions, Career Center counselors, employment specialists and teaching staff help thousands of people every year identify transferable skills, create a top notch resume, master new technology and land interviews that can lead to supplementary income. The Career Center helps participants expand their career horizons through an array of seminars, workshops, panels and groups: 2,130 attendees at Career Center seminars in 2014 741 participants in Career Center workshops 663 people attended panel discussions highlighting careers that make the most of experience in creative fields 302 people took advantage of our free classes “In order to provide the best opportunities for the people we serve we need to be attuned to their needs.” Welcoming a New National Director The Career Center welcomed a new National Director, Christopher Bloodworth, to the team in 2014. Raised with a passion for music, he ultimately pursued a career in social services, and after dedicating years to helping seniors and disadvantaged young adults, he brings his mastery of workforce development to the entertainment community. The Actors Fund’s full range of services are also available to the dance community and will serve to complement those of Career Transition For Dancers. Actors Fund services include emergency financial assistance, health insurance enrollment and counseling, affordable housing assistance, and secondary career and employment counseling. I had found this amazing resource.” Desmond, Actor Bebe Neuwirth, Trustee Sina is a Los Angeles-based actress and singer. When she found herself unable to find sideline work to support herself, she turned to The Career Center, which helped her regain her confidence, hone her job-seeking skills, and ultimately connect her with a position in IT. Unsure what direction to take after giving up a long-time sideline job, actor and voiceover artist Desmond Dutcher utilized The Career Center’s free seminars, classes and weekly job bulletin to plan his next steps. Today, he’s found a position that he finds meaningful, with the flexibility to pursue work as an actor and voiceover artist. Celebrating Looking Ahead! Joining Forces in Los Angeles to Help More People in Entertainment The Actors Fund’s Looking Ahead program works with young performers ages 9–18 in the Los Angeles area to develop the values, skills and confidence they need to make successful transitions to fulfilling adult lives. Founded in 2003 in partnership with SAG-AFTRA, Looking Ahead is an innovative program tailored to help young performers and their families address the unique issues they face working in the entertainment industry. Now serving more than 300 young people, their families and alumni, the program creates a nurturing environment where young performers get support through individual, family and education counseling, leadership development, community service and social events. “The Looking Ahead people have just become my second family —they’re supportive no matter what I do.” Thomas, Teen Actor Los Angeles in 2014: 13,246 people 1,691 were helped by the Western Region offices, versus 5,776 in 2013 7,398 people sought counseling from the Artists Health Insurance Resource Center, up from 3,104 in 2013 participants in The Career Center 3,595 utilized The Fund’s array of social services, including 2,082 who sought help through the Entertainment Assistance Program 925 sought help from the Housing Resource Center Los Angeles is a vast geographical region, and distance can serve as a hurdle to making connections or getting help. To help alleviate a bit of the distance for some, The Fund continued monthly Valley Days gatherings, hosted by Local 80 IATSE in Burbank, taking The Fund’s seminars, services and special events a little closer to people living in the Valley. And more recently, the Entertainment Industry Referral and Assistance Center in Los Angeles was integrated into the services of The Fund. The program now occupies a beautiful new office suite in Local 80 IATSE’s building in Burbank, expanding our capacity to improve and increase our services to the entertainment community in southern California. Cozzens Bequests The Actors Fund offers our supporters the opportunity to purchase charitable gift annuities in every state in the country. These annuities offer donors dependable income while providing critical support to The Fund. To make a special bequest, contact Jay Haddad, Manager of Planned Giving & Major Gifts, at 917.281.5928 or email jhaddad@actorsfund.org or visit actorsfund.org/PlannedGiving. Join Marion and Francis Lederer—Part of the Legacy of Giving The Lederers’ made a generous bequest to The Fund, with an initial distribution of $475,000 in 2012. Born in Canada, Marion attended the University of Toronto and UCLA. She was Los Angeles Commissioner of Cultural Affairs from 1980–85, and was a founding member of the American National Theatre and Academy (ANTA). Francis Lederer was born in Prague and, after service in World War I, became one of Europe’s top male film stars. He moved from silent films to talkies, and was as comfortable in films as on stage. He moved to the United States and became a citizen in 1939 where his performing career flourished. The Lederers were married in 1941 and their marriage lasted for 59 years. They were proud Ambassadors for UNICEF, and Marion founded the United Nations’ Sister City Program. We are grateful for the examples they set as citizens of the world and supporters of The Actors Fund. $100,000 + Vicki Cowen Estate Charlotte Fairchild Estate Albert Hackett Estate Cyrilla Langeais Estate Marion Lederer Estate David Sacks Estate William Weinberger Estate $5,000 + Marion Cleveland Cohen Estate Lila King (Colton) Estate James T.
