Using Synseal plastic thermal reinforcements is the easy way to improve the thermal performance of the windows you offer, whilst improving manufacturing efficiency. They also cost less than the steel alternative. CavSeal cavity closers Envirosill Envirosill is made from post consumer recycled windows, with a skin of virgin pvc-u applied to the seen faces to ensure that the aesthetics and performance are not compromised. Synseal’s frame forming cavity closers are vital components for all new build developments. Made from 100% recycled PVC-U and BBA accredited, CavSeal cavity closers are the simplest and most effective way to seal cavities around wall openings to provide a rigid window or door acceptor. CavSeal requires no tools, adhesives or screws as the system simply clicks together. Manufactured entirely from recycled post consumer PVC-U, CavSeal cavity closers are the perfect choice for every new build housing project as the Code for Sustainable Homes offers credits to builders who use sustainable materials and energy efficient products. Synseal overview | 11 Why choose Synseal? Clients trust Synseal for their projects because a wide choice of high quality products is backed up by a well resourced and full-service systems company that truly understands technical requirements and will capably deliver solutions to guarantee success in a highly competitive marketplace. Synseal are best placed to advise on how to manufacture and install the most appropriate products for specific end-user clients and will take the following parameters into consideration: • Energy efficiency • Environmental impact • Ease of use • Supply continuity and guarantees • Security Choose from fully-integrated Synseal window and door systems, quality hardware solutions, accessories, market leading conservatory roofs, portal frame structures and low-level door thresholds which are Part M compliant; all designed with social housing, new build, private home refurbishments and commercial buildings in mind. Environmental responsibility All Synseal products are manufactured under environmental management systems which are third-party accredited to ISO14001. Synseal works to optimise production processes, reduce costs and minimise environmental impact at all times. Synseal was awarded with ISO14001 accreditation in 2009 as a result of its commitment to environmental improvements across the whole organisational structure. As global changes continue apace, Synseal fully accepts environmental responsibilities and to ensure compliance has developed a comprehensive management system that regularly monitors performance against a set of challenging objectives: • Achieve zero waste to landfill • Reduce electricity usage • Increase reuse of PVC-U • Encourage closed loop PVC-U recycling • Reduce emissions and business mileage • Develop 100% recycled product solutions • Work with customers to reduce their impact through recycling collection schemes • Develop products which allow customers to achieve the best WERs, DSERs and U-values • Conduct environmental management workshops for customers Synseal will always seek to reduce its carbon footprint and continue to maintain its ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems certification. In 2011 Synseal was nominated and short listed for the Green Manufacturer of the Year Award at the ‘Insider Made in the Midlands Awards’, a scheme that rewards the work of manufacturers across the region. Synseal impressed the judges with ongoing environmental strategies that include a year-on-year reduction in energy consumption of 8%, producing an average saving of 600 tonnes of carbon; a 30% reduction in vehicle emissions through the introduction of new delivery vehicles; and a target objective of zero waste to landfill which was achieved in April 2012. Other initiatives include the reduction of tyre wear and replacement, and a saving of 15% in office paper usage. Also of considerable significance is the company’s focus on the introduction of A-rated windows throughout its range, and the use of recycled PVC-U in the manufacture of new products to virtually eradicate waste of this valuable raw material. Recycled windows for truly sustainable homes Disposal of PVC-U in an environmentally responsible way The Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) was developed by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) and Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA) to promote sustainable building practices for new house building in England & Wales. It provides a single national standard for the construction industry and helps to drive continuous improvement, greater innovation and exemplary achievement in sustainable home building. Homes are measured against design categories, rating the ‘whole home’ as a complete package. There is a range of alternative methods available for deriving residual value from used plastics products. The optimal route for a given product will be determined by assessing a combination of environmental, logistical, economic and market considerations. Therefore, the whole range of waste management options should be considered when deciding on the treatment of plastic waste, including PVC-U windows. Design categories included are: • Energy/CO2 • Pollution • Water • Health and well being • Materials • Management • Surface water run off • Ecology • Waste As the public are becoming increasingly conscious of the environment there is a growing requirement for more sustainable products and services, and choosing recycled windows from Synseal helps to meet these demands. The use of recycled PVC-U windows allows specifiers to tick the boxes for many of the CSH design categories. Recycling One of the many benefits of PVC-U as a material is that it is readily and economically recyclable like all other thermoplastic materials. The primary aim of recycling is to elicit a net environmental benefit through reducing the use of primary resources and/or diverting resources from landfill. PVC-U is… • Low maintenance • Durable • Economical and energy efficient • Safe and secure • Versatile • Environmentally sound • Recyclable PVC-U windows can be recycled up to 10 times, with a life span of 400 years. Synseal overview | 13 Window Energy Ratings Synseal continually seeks to improve the energy efficiency of its windows and doors, to ensure that products can easily achieve best-category ‘A+’ and ‘A’ ratings, without compromising on performance or security. By introducing plastic thermal reinforcements and multi-chambered profiles, specifiers have peace of mind that they are selecting products that have been engineered to deliver the highest ratings without compromise. Multi-chambered frame and plastic thermal reinforcement Window Energy Ratings are design simulations that can accurately calculate how energy-efficient a specified window will be in use. The WER system is based on a scale of A-G, with A-rated windows being the most energy-efficient. As up to 25% of heat within homes escapes through windows, consumers are increasingly demanding A-rated windows to retain domestic heat and lower energy bills. Window Energy Ratings apply to a whole window (frame and glass) rather than the frame or glass components individually. A combination of multi-chambered PVC-U window frame profile, spacer bar and high performance glass will create the most thermally-efficient project solution. Door Set Energy Rating (DSER) calculations provide similar thermal evaluations for doors. Synseal can provide expert advice to assist in all aspects of WER and DSER specification, with simulations carried out in accordance with BS EN ISO10077-2. Multi-chambered frame and sash, triple glazed Commercial market expertise Synseal’s commercial team is able to create innovative solutions that comply with Building Regulations and other key specification standards, such as the Code for Sustainable Homes.
