Morgart gave Fango some details about the movie, which just finished postproduction, with a few photos and the news that a new trailer has hit the web. The movie stars FANGORIA RADIOʼs Debbie Rochon (1st photo) as Madame Won Ton, who ran a brothel in the ʼ70s but his since converted it into a Chinese restaurant. Her daughter Lily (Suzi Lorraine, who was also a producer and came up with the story with Morgart) believes her father was an Asian man—little knowing he was actually an Elvis impersonator her mom had a fling with in ʼ76—and adopts the appropriate accent. And sheʼs carrying something else, too: a growth in her abdomen that turns out to be a fetal twin Lilyʼs body absorbed while she was in her motherʼs womb. A doctor (Gunnar Hansen) oversees an operation to remove the fetus, which proves to be alive—but the baby also turns out to have a hunger for blood, a development that threatens to tear the Won Ton family apart, along with assorted hapless victims. 1 of 5 TWILIGHT ZONE 11/13/10 1:50 PM “WON TON BABY!” wraps post; director comments, new trailer http://www.fangoria.com/index.php?option=com_content&vie... The movie lensed at an actual restaurant, which meant cameras could only roll after business hours. “Shooting the overnights there was physically brutal on everyone,” Morgart tells Fango. “People would straggle in at call time like zombies, but after an hour with our makeup artist or putting props in place—and several cups of coffee—everyone was energized, with one common goal in mind: provide horror fans with a cult classic. Shooting at ungodly hours also opened us to vandalism and police inquiry. On two separate nights, cops rolled by our set—mostly out of interest as to why 25 people were congregated in one area with enormous 1000-watt lights mounted on stands. Our production designer, Jen Morgart, also experienced a car window getting smashed, and the vandals made off with a computer bag filled with socks and underwear—but no computer.” Morgart also notes that their brothel set was so persuasive that a former cop who loaned badges to the production team said he would have shut the building down had he happened upon it while on duty. “That was certainly a compliment to Jen—even if it did make me all the more nervous every time a cop car rolled by.” To make the most of the limited schedule, Morgart covered nearly every scene with three cameras, which required some intricate choreography to keep them out of each otherʼs line of sight. “Another challenge was lighting the set,” he notes. “Normally, a three-camera setup on a sitcom involves overlit sets, but we were determined to avoid that and keep the low-lighting style I prefer. This meant a lot of time making sure that actors werenʼt blocking any of their co-starsʼ lights in any of the three possible angles. Luckily, on a horror flick with a lot RSS FEED of blood, this worked out well in combination with the effects crew taking their time to set up gore scenes, but it put an incredible strain on our cast, as they were Get the FANGO Feed! FANGORIA expected to maintain a superhuman amount of patience.” That ensemble also includes Abe Tran, who played Lilyʼs sister Ben in addition to overseeing the stunts, Lou Martini Jr. and Nick Raio as detectives, Harry Terjanian and KNOCK KNOCKʼs Sal Sirchia. “Every actor on the shoot was phenomenal,” Morgart says. “As always, Debbie brought her A-game, and since she was the lead, everyone attempted to maintain her level of professionalism and talent. Abe, though a newcomer, impressed everyone on set with both his acting talent and his stunt ability. Heʼs the first actor Iʼve worked with who was able to produce real tears for a scene, and then 15 minutes later land a somersault with a bo staff in his hands.” In charge of the makeup FX was Ingrid Okola, while the creature work was done by Paul Mafuz and Wicked EFX.
