Resources include but are not limited to: surfing the web, billiards, board games, Wii games, Ping Pong, puzzles, and many more. Drop–In services are offered at both the Mississauga and Central West offices Monday to Friday from 9:30 AM-4:30 PM. A pizza party will be held at the end of our session. Woodworking 1 Monday January 4th, 2016 - Monday March 21st, 2016 Fee: $65 This group will be making a kitchen cart and includes easy to follow guidelines and it’s made by your own hands. Special Events Committee Monday January 4th, 2016 - Monday March 21st, 2016 Free The committee will come together to share ideas and to help plan events for the PHD ABIS community. Join this group to share your creative ideas. PHD ABIS Café Tuesday January 5th, 2016 - Tuesday March 22nd, 2016 Fee: $25 Case Manager REFFERAL required. This group involves preparing a healthy meal for yourself and your peers at a very low fee. (Must be able to take a leadership role, work independently, help to problem solve with your team, and work with little staff direction). Movies @ Famous Players Coliseum Tuesday January 5th, 2016 - Tuesday March 22nd, 2016 Pay as you go Enjoy a night at the movies with friends. The movie is half price with an “Access 2 Entertainment” card. A Scene card will get you a 10% discount on concession stand items. Pranayam YOGA Wednesday January 6th, 2016 - Wednesday March 23rd, 2016 Free A certified instructor will guide you through deep breathing Yoga exercises and help you to energize your mind and body. Book Club Wednesday January 6th, 2016 - Wednesday March 23rd, 2016 Fee: $20 Join this group to explore various literacy works. Participants will engage in an open discussion about the book in relation to life experiences. This group will help to increase communication skills (listening, reading and writing) as well as socialization and interaction skills. Page 6 DAY SERVICES GROUPS AND DESCRIPTIONS Jumpstart/Sunshine Stroll Thursday January 7th, 2016 - Thursday March 24th, 2016 Free This ever popular group includes some warm-up exercises, stretching, strength training, and light cardio. The group ends with a short discussion on the hot topics in today’s latest headlines. Chess and Checkers Thursday January 7th, 2016 - Thursday March 24th, 2016 Free Test and improve your skills in an arousing game of chess or checkers. This is a great group if you are looking to enhance your concentration skills and thinking skills, while socializing with your friends. Soups and Appetizers Thursday January 7th, 2016 - Thursday March 24th, 2016 Fee: $50 This group will involve preparing a combination of appetizers and soups. Cards and Sharks Thursday January 7th, 2016 - Thursday March 24th, 2016 Fee: $25 This group will allow individuals to choose a game of chance. We award small prizes at the end of each group with a healthy snack in the middle. Music and Me Friday January 8th, 2016 - Friday March 18th, 2016 Free This musical group allows members to sing and to share meaningful pieces of music which are then discussed within the group. The group members will showcase their abilities during the annual PHD ABIS Holiday Social and Family Picnic. Karaoke Friday January 8th, 2016 - Friday March 18th, 2016 Free This entertaining and popular activity is perfect for the singers or those who think they can sing. We don’t care how you sound because this group is all about having fun. Come on out and start your weekend off with a rock n’ good time! Movie & Dinner Friday January 8th, 2016 - Friday March 18th, 2016 Fee: $55.00 End your week or start your weekend with an awesome home-style cooked meal and a screening of the latest releases or classic flick. Movie & Dinner is another long-time favorite and we can’t wait for you to join us! Page 7 PSYCHOSOCIAL GOUPS Psychosocial Group Leader Dorothy Heidbuurt Dorothy.Heidbuurt@phdabis.org (905) 949-4411 ext. 239 These groups are implemented ONLY WHEN there are enough clients interested to facilitate an appropriate group size. These groups cannot be registered through Day Services, therefore they are not included on the Day Services registration sheet. Please contact your Case Manager, Team Leader, or Senior Staff if you’re interested in registering for any of the following groups. Women`s Group (Thursdays at the Mississauga Location; Wednesdays in Orangeville) An opportunity for the PHD ABIS ladies to come together and make new friends. This group fosters the sharing of experiences, being supportive and supported, and helps to develop problem solving as well as other skills. Men`s Group (Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the Mississauga Location; Thursdays in Orangeville) This group allows the men of PHD ABIS to come together, socialize, share and discuss the daily experiences of living with an ABI. SUBI– Substance Use and Brain Injury (Fridays at the Mississauga Location) This group’s focus is to discuss the effects of alcohol and drugs on brain injury. It explores coping strategies for the life addiction cycle, regaining control over your life, developing a new support network. You will meet, support, and be supported by people who share similar experiences. Family Support Group (2nd Tuesday of the month at the Mississauga Location; the 3rd Thursday of the month in Orangeville) This support group focuses on information exchange between families and caregivers. It provides an opportunity for family members and caregivers to learn from each other`s experiences. Available Psychosocial Groups Anger Management Self– Esteem ABI Education Relaxation and Stress Management Depression Support Social Skills Anger Management Support Effective Communication Self– Esteem Support Community Women`s Group Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Orientation Relationships and Sexuality Relationships and Sexuality II Note: We are currently assessing the Central West Program’s Psychosocial Group needs. Groups in addition to the Men’s, Women’s, and Family Support Groups will be announced early in the 2016 Winter session. Please watch for more information, or contact Dorothy Heidbuurt, the Psychosocial Group Leader. Page 8 Training-Recreation-Independence Program (Winter 2016) How to Register To register, please bring your cheque book or cash with your completed registration form to a Day Services staff. Please see a Day Services staff, the Day program Group Leader, or your Case Manager if you need help completing the form. All groups are first come-first served. Registration begins June 1st but if you like, you can bring in your registration form earlier. Alternatively, you may complete the form on-line on the ’What’s Happening’ page at www.phdabis.org. Registration Begins December 14th, 2015 at 9:30 AM. Please note that you can start your registration process as soon as you receive your calendar. Payment method: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. The adventure takes place in the north camp of Bancroft and transportation and meals are provided. The aim for Boundless Adventures is to inspire, challenge and overcome obstacles. Most important are emerging new friendships, lifelong memories and the courage and confidence to try new and exciting adventures. Summer activities offered: Canoeing, camping, wall climbing, ropes course, and white-water rafting Winter activities offered: cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, building snow shelters, sledding, boot hockey, ice fishing, and maple syrup tapping.
