Greetings from the Mayor
Dear Residents:
We all have such busy
schedules these days that lots
of pre-planning is required to
keep everything organized.
This is why you are receiving
the Fall and Winter Parks and
Recreation guide several weeks earlier than usual
so you can plan early and not miss out on any of
the activities offered this year. There are so many
activities to choose from you will need the extra
time to look through all of the exciting recreation
opportunities!
The Parks and Recreation Department has been
working on some important projects, all of which
are designed to enrich Orangeville residents’
recreation opportunities. The floor and refrigeration
system replacement at Tony Rose Memorial Sports
Centre is in its completion stage, well in time for
the busy hockey and skating season ahead.
519-940-9092 / www.orangeville.ca
By the end of the summer, weather permitting,
residents will be able to enjoy the new splash pad
at Fendley Park. The need for a second splash
pad has grown since 2000 and it’s with much
gratitude that the Town has partnered with the
Rotary Club of Orangeville to make this project a
reality. Our local service clubs are committed to
providing these services to the community and the
Town couldn’t do it without their support.
The demand for more group fitness classes has
continued this past year, resulting in new classes
such as Meditation, Kick Fit, Body Blast and Calm
Steady Strong, a therapeutic fitness program for
those experiencing cancer in their lives. A new
three-month fitness package will be available
beginning in September, plus all classes are now
being offered on a very affordable drop-in basis.
I hope you have had a chance to check out the
new Town website. A new feature is a Parks
and Recreation “Daily Activity Schedule” which
provides a quick link to what’s happening at the
recreation centres. Visit www.orangeville.ca to
access this great new feature.
With cooler weather just around the corner, don’t
forget to get out on the Town’s ever-growing trail
network for a walk, run or bike ride – it’s an easy
way to fit active recreation or transportation into
anyone’s busy schedule!
Sincerely,
Mayor Rob Adams

Town of Orangeville Trails System
Since 1998, the Town of Orangeville has built
eight kilometres of multi-use trails, mostly in
the west end of Town. The goal is to form a
15-kilometre recreational loop around Town,
eventually linking the Town’s trails to Island
Lake, Monora Park and the Credit River trail.
Skateboarders, bikers and in-line skaters now have a place to

Swimming Pools
Accessibility
The Tony Rose Memorial Sports Centre has a chairlift available for getting in and out of the water. When you
arrive at the facility, contact a staff member for assistance with the proper entrance and equipment. Gradual
steps into the water are also available. The Alder Street Recreation Centre pools are fully accessible.
Aquatics
Tony Rose Memorial Sports Centre provides a 13m x 25m, six-lane lap pool (Temp. 84 F). Alder Street
Recreation Centre provides a 13m x 25m, six-lane lap pool (Temp. 81 F), a leisure pool with a cushioned
floor, a bubbler water bench and two water toys (Temp. 86 F). There is also a 14ft. 3in. high indoor water
slide (must be 42 inches to ride the slide). Note: If you would like to rent one of the pools, call 519-940-9092
Ext. 4100.
Medical Conditions
Please inform the Lifeguards if you have a medical condition. In the interest of public health and safety the
Lifesaving Society requires that “individuals with a serious medical condition be directly supervised by an
adult who is familiar with the condition and treatment.” If your child is not feeling well, consider the health of
others and do not participate in the program.
Admission Standards for Public Swims
Children under 9 years of age must be directly supervised in the water and within arm’s reach of a guardian
16 years of age or older. Maximum three children under 9 years of age per guardian. Participants aged 9
and up may be required to participate in a facility swim test to determine their swimming level. A colour-coded
wristband will be issued upon completion indicating where they may swim. Those who pass the facility swim
test may swim in the deep end. Those who do not pass the facility swim test must remain in the shallow end.
Facility Swim Test
To successfully pass the facility swim test, participants must: swim 25 metres with the ability to put their
face in the water; take a least one (1) breath without putting their feet on the bottom of the pool; and, tread
water for one (1) minute. The swim admission standard applies to all swims. Aquatics staff may ask for a
demonstration of swimming ability if they feel there is a question of a participant’s safety.
What Should My Baby Wear In The Pool?
Babies should wear baby swim diapers or plastic pants under a bathing suit. Swim diapers are available to
purchase for $2 at the Customer Service Desk.
Changerooms
Personal Property
Participants are responsible for their personal belongings while participating in programs. Parks and
Recreation assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen items. Lockers are available at both facilities. You
must provide your own lock and remove it when you leave.
Family Swims/Public Swims
Swims targeted to parents with young children, seniors and special needs patrons. Family swims are held in
the leisure pool only. Pool toys and personal flotation aids are allowed in the shallow end. Please check with
our lifeguards for approval. Two lanes will be available in the lap pool for lane swims.
Lane Swims - Morning/Noon/Evening
Lane swims are available to those 13 years of age or older. Lane swims are divided into slow, medium and
fast lanes. Note that a shared lane swim has one to two lanes available while other programs are operating.
Lane lines will be removed five minutes before the end of lane swims.
Video/Photography
Photographic/video equipment (including Personal Digital Assistants and Cellular Phones) are not allowed
in changerooms, washrooms or in program spaces. Taking photos or videos of participants during programs
is not permitted. Participants will be asked for written permission to have photographs taken by the media or
Town staff for promotional purposes.
Lesson Notes
To observe your child’s progress, a viewing gallery is located above the pool. Please prepare your child for a
male or female instructor. Staff cannot accommodate preference of instructor.
519-940-9092 Ext. 4110 / www.orangeville.ca
Children under 7 years of age may use any changeroom accompanied by an adult 16 years of age or older.

Every Child Ready to Read® is an early
childhood literacy program for children from birth
to age five, developed by the American Library
Association.
Ready to Read with Everyone
Ages 5 years and under, with an adult
Take part in this interactive program that has
something for everyone. Sing songs, talk with
others, listen to stories and rhymes, and play
games that encourage literacy and learning.
Studies show that children get ready to read
years before they start school. Parents and
caregivers play a critical role in developing early
literacy skills in children beginning at birth. You
can help your child get ready to read. Each
week, children attend with an adult. Library
staff will demonstrate ways to help children get
ready to read incorporating five simple activities:
talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing.
