Grand Strand amusement park opened in 1966.
When the Ammons family purchased it in 1992, they
changed the name to Family Kingdom.
It’s one of the few remaining free admission parks
– there’s no charge to wander the grounds.
Swamp Fox, a PTC/John Allen wood out-andback coaster, has been thrilling guests since 1966. Kiddie Coaster, a Sartori junior coaster, and Twist ‘n’ Shout,
a Zamperla Wild Mouse, round out the park’s coaster
collection.
Family Kingdom has a solid ride package for attendees to enjoy, including classics such as Scrambler,
Tilt-a-Whirl and a log flume.
14523 Carowinds Blvd.
Charlotte, NC 28273
carowinds.com
In 1969, Charlotte businessman E. Pat Hall announced he would build Carowinds, a theme park
straddling the state borders of the Carolinas; the
name, he said, was derived from the two states and the
winds that blew across them.
Today, the Cedar Fair park has a solid coaster
collection, including Carolina Cyclone, a 1980 Arrow
coaster; Afterburn, B&M’s 1999 addition to the park;
Intimidator, 2010’s B&M hypercoaster; and 2015’s
hugely popular B&M hypercoaster Fury 325.
The park will introduce Carolina Harbor, the largest waterpark in either state in late May; with great
rides and great food, Carowinds is sure to be a hit with
Conference attendees.
