biodegradable and compostable packaging using agro fibre materials
BIODEGRADABLE AND
COMPOSTABLE PACKAGING
USING AGRO FIBRE MATERIALS

Introduction

We are planning to produce packaging items using Agro Fiber. All
products will be categorized with 100% of biodegradable and
Compostable characteristic. Biodegradable & compostable food
packaging for customers seeking a healthy and eco-friendly
choice. We plan to offer a unique product that uses organic
waste in a sustainable manufacturing process.

We plan to produces green products made from the waste of oil
palm industry, specifically, Agro Fiber, to create more
environmentally responsible packaging & paper products. The
raw material is made of natural palm fiber derived from empty fruit
bunches that would be disposed either by landfills or incineration,
adding to pollution. As an eco-friendly product, it is processed by
organic means, without any chemicals.

WHO WE ARE?
• We are group of people with vast experience in
producing the food and fruits trays, medical
compliance trays and industrial packaging trays by
using Agro Fiber’s materials.
• We are pioneer people involved in E2E process
(including R&D) with agro fiber materials
manufacturing of fruit, food , industrial packaging
products and medical compliance.

WHAT DOES
BIODEGRADABLE MEANS?
 A biodegradable product can dissolve easily in the environment without
destroying nature, meaning that the materials will break down and return
to nature within a reasonably short time after customary disposal.
 The ability to biodegrade within landfills helps to reduce the build-up of
waste, contributing to a safer, cleaner and healthier environment.
 Real biodegradable material will often break down into:
 Carbon
 Hydrogen
 Bacteria
 Fungi
 Simple organisms
 Oxygen - Carbon dioxide CO2 and water H2O
 It’s the opposite of plastic and Styrofoam, which harm the environment.
 If everything was biodegradable, our world would be extremely clean.

WHAT IS COMPOSTING?
1. Composting is the controlled biological break-down of organic matter (such as
food scraps, yard trimmings and etc) into a humus or soil-like material, which is
used as a natural fertilizer to improve soil structure (i.e. providing the earth with
nutrients once the material has completely broken down).
2. Composting organisms require four equally important things to work effectively:

Carbon — for energy; the microbial oxidation of carbon produces the
heat. High carbon materials tend to be brown and dry.

Nitrogen — to grow and reproduce more organisms to oxidize the carbon.
High nitrogen materials tend to be green (or colourful, such as fruits and
vegetables) and wet.

Oxygen — for oxidizing the carbon, the decomposition process.

Water — in the right amounts to maintain activity without causing
anaerobic conditions.
3. Compost is a dark, crumbly mixture that can help improve the chemical, physical
and biological aspects of soil. Compost will often have an earthy smell and its
odour should not be unpleasant.
5
COMPARISON BETWEEN BIO
DEGRADABLE AND COMPOSTABLE
 Biodegradable usually means that a commercial facility
can cause the product in question to breakdown into
usable materials.
 Compostable means that you can take the product and put
it in your home compost or garden and expect that it will
break down in a reasonable time frame.
 For instance, Palm Fibre compostable products should
breakdown in your garden in less than 7 weeks.
 Composting turns degradable materials into useable
compost-humus-like material that enriches the soil and
returns nutrients to the earth.

WHY EMPTY FRUIT BUNCHES (EFB) ?
 Resource Conversion & Value-adding from Oil-Palm Biomass to Pulp,
Paper & Food Container Product
 Fresh Fruits Bunches (FFB) is harvested 2 to 3 times in a month.
Empty Fruit Bunches (EFB) are left after fruits have gone through the
milling process.
 Pulp from Oil Palm EFB Fiber as Cheap & Sustainable Raw Material.
 The Lucrative Business of Pulp & Paper and Food Container
Manufacturing using Oil Palm EFB Fiber
 Commercial-scale Proven, Energy Efficient & Environmentally Friendly
Pulping Technology with huge Market for the Finished Products
 Promoted Product: Food Container & Unbleached Fluting Medium
Paper with dried Lignin as a By-Product.

SAVE THE EARTH
• Now it is the high time to do our own share in protecting Earth and her
wonderful creatures. Our planet is indeed gasping for breath right now;
our harmful pollutions are harming her more. We think it is about time to
give our timely response to this alarming state of the only planet we live
in, by doing our own share of protecting her with doing simple things
that will surely make big difference
• The signs of earth’s displeasure with inappropriate and harmful activities
of humans are now seen and felt all across the globe like the global
warming, climate change, acid rain, drought, flash floods and other
forms of natural catastrophes as well illegal logging which discharge
CO2.
• Collective small efforts by those who are genuinely concerned with
earth’s welfare will inevitably help her by great leap and bounds. It’s
about time to give back to our wonderful planet by taking good care of
her. Our Save the Earth programme is dedicated to the execution of
environmental awareness in our society.

THE BIODEGRADABLE
PACKAGING MARKETPLACE
• The market for biodegradable packaging products is large and growing. The
growth becoming increasingly aware of negative environmental impact arising
from the use of packaging materials made from non-biodegradable materials
such as metal, plastic, glass and other petroleum based product such as
EPS,PE & PP. The growth is further fuelled by increasing environmental
regulations put in place by governments and other legislative bodies. The
annual global market for packaging product in 2013 including both
biodegradable and non-biodegradable was estimated US$424bn.
• (Source : Packaging Gateway ). The EU market is the largest region with
US$127bn or 30% from total value, followed by North America US$118bn (28%)
and Asia with US$114bn (27%).

ANALYSIS – Market Place Timing
• According to its Sustainable Packaging report, annual
growth of the packaging industry will exceed the global
economy growth rate. The report projects plastic-based
packaging will be reducing slowly compare with eco
friendly packaging products sector will be blooming in
next 5 years. The report also said paper & paper based
packaging represent the largest sectors, holding more than
40% of the Global packaging market.

Business Model
The majority of the products are sold directly to the large end user by
Distributor to Wholesaler such as food superstores, hypermarkets,
pharmaceutical companies. These sales are typically large volumes with
lower producer margins compared to sales through intermediaries.
Pricing is largely determined by volume and delivery reliability.
