"YELCO" 8/10/2016 - 28/10/2016 About the project
YELCO INFOPACK Youth Exchange October 2016, Nicosia, Cyprus YOUTH EMPOWERMENT. HOW?! by LEARNING how to truly CARE for OLDER people "YELCO" 8/10/2016 - 28/10/2016 About the project: This youth exchange will take place in Nicosia - Cyprus, the last divided capital in Europe (other being Berlin until 1989) and will be for a duration of 21 days, from 8/10/2016 until 28/10/2016. Travel days: 8/10/2016 and 28/10/2016 YELCO aims to bring together 7 NGOs and 28 youth, from 18 to 30 years old (additionally 7 youth leaders), to explore in a European context, the challenges and opportunities in supporting elders in need and through that learn a lot more about themselves, other youth from other countries and other generations' needs. Each partner will be responsible for selecting their own participants (we can also help with that by promoting it together via Facebook). In this project, the profile of the participants is very important, so please try to select 4 youth (+ 1 youth leader) having in mind the following: - aged 18-30 (not applicable for youth leader who needs to be 18+) - have finished school - don't have a job or are underemployed or are at a stage of changing jobs - have working knowledge of English (essential for youth leader) Please try to give priority to youth with fewer opportunities: economical, cultural or social difficulties. Travel You can travel to Cyprus only by plane. Consider using skyscanner or Ryanair fair finder to get cheap tickets. You may arrive a few days before the project and also stay a bit but you need to finance your own stay for the extra days. You have two options: Το arrive in Larnaca or Paphos airport and then come to Nicosia by bus. Please note that if you arrived from Northern Cyprus, we will not be able to cover your travel costs. Travel expenses will be reimbursed by our organization directly to our partner organization from each country who will undertake to reimburse each participant. Please make sure you respect the maximum amount of money that we can reimburse. If the travel costs are more than the maximum amount allowed you or the participants will need to cover the extra cost. Below are some photos from the old part of Nicosia, where you will be staying. Food Food is an important element of every social occasion in Cyprus. The island's geographical position and its history have resulted in a very interesting merge of Greek, Turkish, Arabic and European cuisines. A popular style of dining is “meze” (which means "mixture"), which consists of many small dishes with a little of everything. There is no better way to sample Cypriot cuisine than the meze, when visiting for only a few days, as you can enjoy the widest variety of local food in one sitting. *Please inform us if some of your participants have special dietary needs. Intercultural night Intercultural night is an integral part of our E+ projects. This means that we need your help. We want you to be creative and show us a video or some pictures from your country best places, cities and historical sites. We know you have at least one funny picture/video connected with your country. So bring them along. You can also make a play/create a song, or show us traditional dance moves! And because this evening combines pleasure with food and drinks we kindly invite you to bring some gastronomical specialities (food and/or drinks), your dancing shoes and your karaoke voice!!!! LET THE FUN BEGIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
