The Berlin-based Springstoff music label claims: “We are saving the world!” In many African countries, song texts with messages commenting on social cohesion and politics have a long tradition. Yet in many African countries, only a minority has access to the internet and digital media. How is increasing digitilisation changing the African music market? Which roles do digital and social networks play in reaching local and global audiences? These issues will be discussed by Yoel Kenan from the Africori digital music platform (South Africa), Benjamin Lebrave from the Akwaaba Music label (Ghana), Georg Milz from Outhere Records (Germany) and the music journalist Fiona Okumu from AfriPOP! And how can German-African music projects contribute to cultural understanding?
