Below is a short selection of various punk fanzines and related pieces
not gathered into one of our previously issued catalogues. This includes
a zine gathering correspondence or mail art (Insult), several issues of
Killer, a zine edited by Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and others. Terms
and order/contact information at the end of the list.
[1] Dogmatic, Irene; Gaglione, Bill (William); Baumgardner, Lisa; Art, Ott
et al. Insult. Irene Dogmatic, Publisher. No place: 1979. Pink wraps,
illustrated. 5 1/2 by 4 1/4 inches. Black and white clip art and
reproduced images throughout. 28 pages. A mail or correspondence art

type piece that reproduces insults, letters, art and commentary from
various people, initiated and assembled by Irene Dogmatic. This
includes a page by William Gaglione, a key figure in the mail art
movement in the San Francisco area in the 1970s. Irene Dogmatic was a
member of a few Bay area punk bands in the 1970s, while at the same
time pursuing and continuing as career in art, working in different
mediums. Her work is held in several collections. VERY GOOD condition.
Minor offsetting and fading. Light wrinkling along the extremities.

[2] Moore, Thurston (editor). Killer #1. Catherine (Ceresole or
Bachmann) and Nicholas/Killer, Publishers. New York: no date, early
1980s. Photomechanically reproduced side stapled wraps, with a front

cover photo of the lead singer of Swans. 32 pages, including covers.
Black and white photos and clip art throughout. Photos by Catherine
Ceresole, a photographer known for her documentation of the No
Wave scene in New York in the early 1980s. With a green flexidisc,
unplayable, as it is partially melted. Edited and written by Thurston
Moore (among others) of Sonic Youth, this fanzine served as ‘an
inspired excuse for to introduce himself to musicians he admired in
other cities,’ as well as covering both the hard core and art core music
scenes (Foege. Confusion is Next: The Sonic Youth Story). This is the
debut issue, featuring interviews and photos of The Beastie Boys, Minor
Threat, Lydia Lunch, Swans and others GOOD condition. Minor toning.
Minor staining to the lower rear cover. Diagonal crease to the upper
corners of the last several pages. $150.00

Catherine Bachmann/Ceresole a photographer known for her
documentation of the No Wave scene in New York in the early 1980s.
Seventh issue, featuring primarily photos, with blurbs, of various bands,
including Glenn Branca, Circle Jerks, James White, etc. GOOD condition.
Heavy browning to the exterior. Vertical fold crease present. Some

[5] Pavitt, Bruce. Subterranean Pop. Sub/Pop 2. 1980. Lost Music
Network, Publisher. Olympia, WA: 1981. Illustrated wraps. 28 pp.,
including covers. 8 ½ by 7 inches. With clip art throughout, with some
crayon doodles to the first two pages, presumably by Pavitt. Second
issue of this music fanzine, the first of which to be shortened to Sub
Pop (from Subterranean Pop), dedicated to underground, indie music.
This endeavor would eventually lead to the establishment of the Sub
Pop record label that signed acts such as Nirvana, Mudhoney and
others related to the Grunge music genre, becoming a huge influence in
rock music. Bruce Pavitt established Subterranean (Sub) Pop while a
student at Evergreen College in Olympia. This particular issue is
contains short blurbs on various indie, punk and other records and

bands, divided into geographic areas, including the East Coast,
Cleveland, Chicago, San Francisco, Texas, Seattle etc. GOOD condition.
Minor browning to the covers, with light soiling. Minor creasing and
scuffing along the extremities. Triggs p 111-115. $200.00
[6] Various authors. No Mag. No Magazine, Publisher. Los Angeles: ca
1980. Black and white photo Illustrated wraps. Large format side
stapled zine. 14 1/4 by 11 inches. No number or issue designation
found. 40 pp including covers. With a flexi-disc record featuring Geza X.
Black and white photos and art throughout, Edited and produced by
Bruce Kalberg, this magazine chronicled the punk and underground
music scene in and around the Los Angeles area, as well as
documenting contemporary culture, fashion and art, with intent of
‘invert[ing] all the clichés one might expect in reading a magazine.’
(Interview with Kalberg by Rick Klotz, June 2010, quoted on the New

Vulgate blog). To achieve this, black humor and a frank portrayal of sex
is used throughout the magazines. This issue consists primarily of
photographs of various punk musicians, including some of Black Flag,
Belinda (Carlisle) of the Go-Go’s and others. Featured are several
photos depicting full frontal nudity of Brian Gregory of the Cramps, as
well as one of Geza X. Photos of punk and avant-garde fashion are
included. Sexual imagery and language throughout, sometimes a bit
graphic. VERY GOOD condition. Minor curling and creasing to the
magazine along the edges. General browning and minor soiling.

[7] Baumgardner, Lisa; Schwartzbaum, Deena (pseudonym) et al. Bikini
Girl Magazine. Issue 8. 1981. Lisa Baumgardner, Publisher. New York:
1981. Pink wraps and paper, side stapled. 32 pp., including covers. 8
1/2 by 5 inches. Black and white photos and clip art throughout. This
issue with a lengthy interview/conversation with Gerard Malanga, as

well as a centerfold ‘poster’ of John Sex. Bikini Girl was noted for its
critical and incisive look at femininity and female sexuality, especially as
depicted in mainstream culture, as well as documenting the
underground culture of New York City. GOOD+ condition. Fading and
offsetting present along the extremities. Minor soiling. Light edgewear.

[8] Jones, Alex; Starstruck, Sue; Urban, Peter; Belikian, Les. Alex Goes
to London!! Fanzine for the Blank Generation. Issue #5. Published by
Alex Jones and Sue Starstruck. Tustin, CA: no date, presumed mid to
late 1977. Single stapled (upper left corner). 8 ½ by 11 inches. 10 pages,
printed versos only (with the exception of the rear cover). Black and
white photos throughout, including a full page promo photo of the
band The Clash. This issue of Fanzine for the Blank Generation is
primarily devoted to a trip to London taken by Alex Jones. This includes
transcriptions of her phone calls and letters to Sue Starstruck that give
her impressions of the punk scene in London, with special attention to
fashion and the stores, including Seditionaries (the renamed Sex,
owned and run by Malcolm McLaren). Jones mentions a short
encounter with several members of the Sex Pistols, apparently initiated
over the return of a jacket to Steve Jones. Other articles feature a view
of the punk scene in San Francisco, fan club info, etc. The Fanzine for
the Blank Generation, an early woman run punk fanzine, began as an
outgrowth of a failed attempt by Jones and Starstruck to form a Sex
Pistols fan club (ffanzeen web blog). VERY GOOD condition. Minor
browning along the extremities, with a few faint wrinkles and creases.

[9] Abramson, Todd (editor) Kugel, Bernard; Baretta, Loretta et al.
Young, Fast and Scientific. #2. Todd Abramson, publisher. Gillette, NJ:
1979. Black and white photo illustrated wraps. Side stapled. 8 ¼ by 11
inches. 32 pages including covers. Black and white photos throughout.
Named after a song by the Dictators, Young, Fast and Scientific was a
fanzine issued by Todd Abramson, covering rock, punk, and new wave
acts through interviews, reviews and opinion pieces. Abramson is
perhaps better known for his work with the influential bar/club
Maxwell’s, in Hoboken, New Jersey, where he booked music acts
throughout the 1980s and 90s. This issue features pieces on the
Romantics, The Flamin’ Groovies, The Modern Lovers by Bernard Kugel,
etc. GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy browning and some foxing
along the extremities and covers. Minor soiling. $75.00

[10] Coyote, Ginger; Biafra, Jello (as Taste Police) et al. Punk Globe.
August, 1979. 1st Anniversary Issue. Ginger Coyote, Publisher. San
Francisco: 1979. Side folded newsprint paper. 10 ¾ by 7 inches. Black
and white photos and art throughout. The first anniversary issue of this
popular punk fanzine, featuring a gossip column on punk happenings,
record reviews, interviews, etc. Founded by Ginger Coyote in 1977, the
magazine provided an often humorous and ironic look at the punk
scene in the late 1970s and 1980s. GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy
browning, some foxing, soiling and staining present to the covers. Punk
Globe address stamp on the lower front cover. Minor creasing and
wrinkling to the corners. Light toning in the interior. $30.00

newsprint paper. 10 ¾ by 7 inches. Black and white photos and art
throughout. The third anniversary issue of this popular punk fanzine,
featuring a gossip column on punk happenings, record reviews,

interviews, etc. This includes many black and white photos of various
punk bands such as the Lewd, Red Rockers, Dead Kennedys and others.
With a poem for by Jim Carroll to Ginger Coyote. GOOD condition.

20 pages including covers. Second issue of this fanzine focusing on
various rock music acts and related culture. This issue features two half
page columns on the Ramones and a concert they played, an interview
with Rick Springfield, a piece on the Blue Oyster Cult and the Blue

Magoos, several pages on Bob Dylan, etc. GOOD+ condition. Light
toning to the wraps. Minor soiling and curling, mostly along the

[13] Decolator, Paul et al. Tips & Tours. September, 1979. Volume 1,
Number 1. Paul Decolator, Publisher. North Brunswick, NJ: 1979. Side
stapled red wraps. Approximately 8 ½ by 5 ½ inches. 30 pages, printed
on single sides only. A few black and white photos present. The first
issue of this New Jersey based fanzine, providing record and band
reviews on various punk and new wave acts, especially local to the New
Jersey scene. This includes pieces on or interviews with U.S. Ape, Lyn
Todd and Peroxide, Candy Apple and the Corps, etc. Tips and Tours was
published by Paul Decolator, a figure in the New Jersey punk scene, and
member of Loose, among other bands. He also worked as a music
journalist for several local papers/magazines. VERY GOOD condition.
