15 October - Winchester School
30/2015 WINCHESTER SCHOOL AVAILABLE ON LINE: http://winchester.ultranet.school.nz In this Issue 15 OCTOBER 2015 PTA Calendar Fundraiser Welcome to Term 4 Sports Notices New Zealand Shakeout Sports Teams Parent Education Session Community Notices Sports Uniforms Coming up at Winchester Welcome to Term 4 Welcome back to another very busy term. It is only 9 weeks and 2 days long and there are many events to pack in to the term. Have a look at the term calendar at the end of this newsletter for more details. The administration block was painted over the holidays. This is the first of a series of on-going cyclical maintenance of interior blocks during the next few years. Schools are very busy places and teachers have hundreds of interactions with your children on a daily basis. Sometimes a child misunderstands a teacher and goes home upset. If you have an issue, talk to the class teacher in the first instance. If that is not satisfactory, talk to the team leader, and then, if necessary, come and see me. All issues can be resolved. Teachers work with the very best of intentions and want the very best for every child in their class. Enjoy the term with us! New Zealand Shakeout This morning at 9.15am, we participated in the NZ Shakeout Earthquake drill. It was very timely given the recent earthquakes we have experienced. Parent Education Session - Literacy Maree Woods and Viv Storrier are running a session on reading and writing for parents of junior children (Year 0,1,2), or any other interested parents. We particularly encourage parents of New Entrants to attend. It will be on Thursday 29 October in the library from 1.50pm – 2.50pm. The session will focus on how children learn to read and write, and how they are taught this at school. We will give you ideas on how you can help your child at home, and also show the close link between reading and writing. There will be an opportunity for questions, so bring them along. We hope to see you there. Sports Uniforms The new sports uniforms are being distributed for the summer sports season. The Board and PTA have invested a lot of money in these uniforms and we ask that children respect the uniform and wear it with pride. Could all children playing hockey or soccer please ensure that they wear the Winchester School blue and white knee length socks. (Limited stocks of these are still available at the school office for $5.00 a pair). Wearing coloured clothing, other than navy, underneath the sports top, is not acceptable. Nor is wearing longs or tights under the shorts. Jewellery must not be worn for safety reasons. Girls should have their hair tied up. Please also encourage children to promptly change out of their sports uniform after each game, and to avoid wearing them whilst consuming food. Hotshots Tennis All children will participate in 4 tennis lessons with coach John Salisbury, over the next 4 weeks on Thursdays and Fridays. This series of lessons is paid for by the school. PTA Calendar Fundraiser A reminder that calendar orders are due back tomorrow morning, Friday 16 October. Eco-Nected Centre Weekend Helpers If you would like to assist with taking care of the animals during the weekends in Term 4, please fill in your details on the roster available at the school office.
