Baldwin Creek Elementary ~ Lander, WY Where every Bobcat is respectful, responsible and safe! Bobcats Bulletin Volume 4, Issue 9 April 1, 2015 Leslie Voxland, Principal Principal’s Corner Dear Families, Upcoming Events: 4/07 4/14 4/16 4/20 4/24 P.I.E. Mtg.- Noon (Art room) Music concert (@ LVHS) for: Atnip/Steele, Barry, Robertson Hitshew, Sebade, Stephen Music concert (@ LVHS) for: Anderson, Linton, Wheatley, Guenther, Hopkins-Guse, Lloyd No School - Teacher in-service Q4 midterms sent home We survived PAWS testing ~ even with a smile on our face! Mrs. Guenther pulled an early April Fool's Day prank on her fifth grade class by telling them they had one last test-the new PAWS social studies assessment. Students came in the next morning to find snacks, sharpened pencils and a big sign wishing them good luck. They fell for it "hook, line and sinker" and were ready to "step up to the plate." So when Mrs. Guenther announced that she was just fooling them, several spoke up loudly to say that it wasn't really that funny, but most were just really relieved! Once again, thank you for your support in helping your child be ready each day for PAWS testing. McTeacher Night was a huge success!! We appreciate your support in eating out at McDonald’s, especially when the parking lot was full and the line was long. This school fundraiser earned us approximately $1,000 plus over $130 in tips. The 10 teachers/staff from Baldwin Creek who volunteered to help behind the scenes, or at the counter, deeply respect the “real” McDonald’s employees. A big thanks to McDonald’s for supporting our school and to our families! Please continue to help your child complete their homework, read, and follow a nightly routine during these last nine weeks of school as valuable learning needs to occur. Both fourth and fifth grade students have their music concerts in April - - a great evening to bring the whole family for a wonderful time of entertainment. Also, this time of year provides many opportunities for outdoor learning such as field trips, so reminders will be sent home when these special days are planned. We appreciate your support and partnership in helping your child do their very best in school. Happy Spring Break to all of you! Sincerely in Education, Leslie Voxland, Principal If your child will be unable to attend school, please contact the Student Services’ Office (attendance/nurse) directly at 335-0305. Thank you. Look at all those smiles! From the Counselor’s desk: March March was all about HONESTY here at Baldwin Creek Elementary! HONESTY: I will be honest and truthful in my thoughts and actions. Guidance Lessons: The guidance lessons for March focused on teaching students about the importance of honesty, especially academic honesty, as well as, different forms of deceit. Kids participated in a “little white lie” lesson. This lesson began with a scoop of ice-cream; the white lie was a bit of salt. Once we lied, we tried to hide it or cover it up with syrup. Sometimes we had to lie about our lies, adding more salt. In the end, we were left with that lie despite efforts to cover it up. The school’s SRO also provided BCE students with important information on internet safety and cyber-bullying.
