HWPL in Mindanao,
Philippines
L
ocated in the southernmost area of the Philippine islands with over 20 million people and a rich
history, Mindanao has been a land of blood-shed for
the last four centuries, caused by wars and conflicts.
Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) seeks to
achieve autonomy for the Moro People. After a
series of struggles and peace agreements in the
2000s between the government and MILF, the
Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) was introduced and
is now under the process of legal and social acceptance in the Philippines as the replacement of the
Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
On January 24 2014, as a third-party facilitator,
HWPL's contribution to peacebuilding in the province of Maguindanao, Mindanao played a decisive role through the ‘Mindanao Peace Agreement’ conducted by Chairman Lee of HWPL and
signed between Catholic and Muslim leaders. As
the agreement provided an opportunity to raise
the voice of peace by the local citizens of Mindanao, the peace process between the government of the Philippines and the MILF gained the
power source to legitimize the peace resolution.
Hon. Esmael “Toto” G. Mangudadatu, Governor of
Maguindanao Province, Mindanao and Hon. Al haj
Murad Ebrahim, Chairman of MILF have become
active members of the Advisory Council and partners of HWPL in achieving political stability and
equal and sustainable status for the Moro people.
HWPL's peace initiative is solely oriented by the
spirit of peace itself without risking the lives of
people. The approach for peace in Mindanao was
to reconcile and restore harmony among its citizens of different religions and ideologies by having
them hold each other's hands.

‘Monument to the Declaration of World Peace’
at MILF Camp in Mindanao
M
oro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) held
an unveiling ceremony for the Monument
to the Declaration of World Peace at the center
of their base camp located in Sultan Kudarat,
Maguindanao Province. On January 24 2016, the
Monument to the Declaration of World Peace, the
second HWPL Peace Monument in the Philippines,
was shown to the public. To commemorate the historical Mindanao Peace Agreement led by Chairman Lee of HWPL on January 24 2014, Chairman
Al Haj Murad Ebrahim of MILF also decided to designate January 24th of every year as ‘HWPL Day’.
Over 10,000 people from MILF and Moro communities participated in the ceremony. Political
stability, economic development, and sustaina-
ble development are some of the projects being
carried out by these communities in conjunction
with HWPL. HWPL as an international NGO, has
been leading peace discussions with MILF representatives, Muslim, and Catholic communities,
as well as the government of the Philippines.
Before the unveiling ceremony, MILF chairman
presented an appreciation plaque to Chairman
Lee for his dedication of bringing peace to Mindanao, marking this 7th visit. Centered in MILF’s
camp, HWPL’s peace activity will serve as a catalyst
to spread the message of peace to the Davao and
General Santos region, transforming the island of
conflict into the island of peace.
Keynote messages delivered by Chairman Ebrahim and Chairman Lee
are both inscribed on the Monument along with the Declaration of
World Peace:
“This monument has been built on this hallowed ground to honor the people of the Bangsamoro who struggled for justice so
that all the communities of Mindanao and Sulu – Muslim, Christian, and Lumad – will live in peace. Furthermore, this monument stands as a testament of support by the people of the
Bangsamoro for the ‘International Law (Convention) of World
Peace’ advocated in the United Nations by the Heavenly Culture,
World Peace, and Restoration of Light (HWPL) led by Chairman
Man-Hee Lee of South Korea.”
Al Haj Murad Ebrahim
Chairman of MILF
“Today, where people are suffering from wars and conflicts, all
leaders of diverse sectors including politics and religions, are
taking part in the peace movements of HWPL by implementing
an international law on cessation of wars and world peace, and
establishing the HWPL World Alliance of Religions' Peace (WARP)
Office, as a follow-up on the pledges they made before God and
all people. Peace is not a matter confined to a single person but
to every individual. Therefore anyone who is part of this global
family must all become messengers of peace. Let us all participate and become the messengers of peace to pass on peace as
an eternal legacy for the future generations!”
Man Hee Lee
Chairman of HWPL

C
otabato City State Polytechnic College (CCSPC)
was designated as the first HWPL Peace Academy, signing a resolution of Memorandum of
Agreement (MOA). Founded in 1924, CCSPC now
has around 10,000 students and strong programs
in technical, agricultural and marine product, playing a vital role in leading the regional economy. On
January 25, 5,000 students and faculty members
joined the ceremony for the signing of the MOA.
Many principals from other schools came to this
historical moment, bearing witness to the peace
being brought into their region.
“You are the hope of the future and future is resting on your shoulders. Today’s youths are those
who will own the forthcoming world! Let’s work on
building a peaceful world together for mankind,”
said Chairman Lee, hoping students to have the
embers of peace within their hearts. Then Chairwoman Kim added, “The day which bears the fruit
of peace is the day that the peace academy is designated. Today, I am so happy and my heart flut-

ters. From now on, you will be the physical forms of
peace that are educated not by the earthly culture
but the heavenly culture.”
Headmasters who came to the ceremony were
designated as HWPL Publicity Ambassadors and
signed the agreements for designating the schools
as HWPL Peace Academies and adopting HWPL
Peace Curriculum.
Dammang S. Bantala, the president of CCSPC and
ardent supporter of Chairman Lee, stated “students will know about the necessity of peace when
peace curriculum is in every class. So let’s gather all
students from kindergarten to university to make
peaceful world.” He also promised to work hard for
achieving peace through implementing the peace
curriculum.
Starting from Cotabato city designating a HWPL
Peace Academy, a wave of peace will sweep through
the Philippines.
A
place best known for its eateries and warm
weather amid beautiful scenery, Davao City
in the Philippines has a rich cultural heritage of
diverse cultural and religious backgrounds blended harmoniously. The only city museum that
exists in Davao City, Museo Dabawenyo, also
known as “People’s Museum,” has advanced the
local community through a range of initiatives.
Museo Dabawenyo officially designated its second floor, named “Peace Hall,” to exhibit HWPL
peace activities in Mindanao. Director Orly L. Escarrilla presented the certificate for the permanent exhibition of HWPL materials at the peace
hall, the place that will serve to provide community members a platform to learn about the
peace work achieved by HWPL in Mindanao.
Davao City Public Library provided an exclusive
shelf for HWPL to continuously supply monthly
newsletters, brochures, DVDs and other educational materials for any visitors to easily gain access
to HWPL peace works. As a HWPL Publicity Ambassador, Ms. Pedrita M. Badar, director of Davao
City Public Library, has promised to arrange a permanent exhibition of HWPL peace movements.
Davao City Public Library and Museo Dabawenyo
are accessible to Philippine citizens and global tourists alike making it great locations to provide peace
education to the Philippines and beyond.

O
n January 28, religious leaders representing Christianity, Catholicism, Islam, and Hinduism
gathered for the Dialogue of Scriptures at the HWPL WARP Office in Manila, Philippines accompanied by special guests, Chairman Lee and Chairwoman Kim on their 24th World Peace Tour.
Committed to seeking truth that transcends any labels of religions, participants have actively engaged themselves in sharing and understanding each other’s scriptures. Since November 29, 2014,
the WARP Offices in Philippines have made extensive progress in scripture dialogue only because
each participant was willing to search through and select highlights from their scriptures to share.
“HWPL WARP Office, the series of worldwide interfaith peace dialogue sessions,
is distinctive in leading the way to promote deeper understandings of each
scripture among religious leaders. HWPL Scripture Dialogue promotes peace for
sharing of opinions and ideas, giving us the practical ways of harmonizing beliefs in different religions.”
Mr. Roberto Ibrahim M. Mata,
the Director of Islamic Studies Call and Guidance Center of the Philippines
“I realized God has given his will by prophecy. I have understood why Christians
believe in Jesus even if I am Hindu. We have to open our scripture and understand the biblical facts based on the scriptures through HWPL WARP Office.”
Rev. Acharya Prem Shankaranand Tirth Maharaj,
Hindu Priest
“If God comes to the Earth, what will be the first thing He will say? He will tell us
to repent. Meaning the corruptions of all religions…what we need to see is we
must become one in the truth, which is becoming one before the One and Only
God who is the truth.”

he quintessence of an international law is to support order among societies worldwide
and to attain humanity’s fundamental goals: peace, prosperity, human rights, and environmental protection. However, blockages embedded in our daily lives for centuries have
held back the principles of international law, scattering its pure intentions and effectiveness. From big international disputes to conflicts that we experience in our day to day lives,
situations remain unresolved, in these cases, the role of an international law seems weak.
Initiated by an international NGO, however, there is a hopeful spark to the future of an international law, one that will draw a new framework for global peace.

WPL presented an International law for the
cessation of war and achievement of world
peace as a solution to bring about peace to humanity and an instrument to dispose of all means that
initiate war and armed conflicts. At the 1st Annual
Commemoration of the World Alliance of Religions’
Peace (WARP) Summit, HWPL International Law
Peace Committee was established, consisting of
prestigious international law scholars and experts
all under the clear purpose of prohibiting war and
war-like activities. As their first step, twenty distin-
guished HWPL International Law Peace Committee
members are in the process of drafting the Declaration on the Renunciation and Cessation of War
and International Armed Conflicts. Such statement
includes articles on the Prohibition on production,
sales, and supply of all weapons and abolition of
raising and training war potentials. Representing
the marginalized voices of youth and women in
armed conflicts, the Declaration will finally let their
voices be heard. The draft Declaration will be publicly presented in March 2016.

speeches were delivered by L. Raja, the Additional Director for Rural Development of Tamil Nadu
Government, and Dr. Nirmala Manuel, President
of the Women's Christian College. In the second

and as Publicity Ambassadors. One of the participants, G. Evangeline Ashna, a university student,
told the reporters that the conference made her
realize when women protect themselves and unite,
women can build peace not just in Tamil Nadu but
in all of India. The event's finale was a grand Peace

early 200 employees of Juwang Technology
(Jiangxi, China) signed the International Peace
Youth Group (IPYG) peace agreement which states
that they would urge for the implementation of the
International Convention on the Cessation and Renunciation of War and Armed Conflicts. As a corporation that has previously supported education and
provided aids to students in need, Juwang Technology was seeking to leave larger impacts to the
world before it came across the core initiatives of
HWPL through IPYG.
“Since the director sets the course for the corporation, he needs to impose standards strictly that
comes with social responsibility”, said Mr. Jianbo
Zheng, President of Juwang Technology, expressing

his devotion for promoting peace as an extension
of corporate social responsibility.
He further promised to encourage youth members
of his enterprise to participate in peace activities.
He was appointed as Jiangxi Peace Ambassador of
IPYG and wishes his corporation to serve as a role
model in its endeavor for promoting peace.
The signing ceremony was a first step for the corporation in measuring its success and growth not
merely by profits and numbers but also by benefits to furthering humanity. This paradigm shift is
highly applauded throughout the world and was
covered by 11 different Chinese media outlets.

PEACE ATTRACTION
Peace Attraction Site: Sultan Kudarat, Mindanao, Philippines
T
he city of Sultan Kudarat located in the province of Maguindanao, Philippines perpetually under war and
fear is now known as the land of life, joy and peace. Sultan Kudarat is named after a great patriarch in
Philippine history, Sultan Kudarat.
The people of Sultan Kudarat suffered through 40
years of civil war, struggling for political independence as well as battling religious, ideological and
ethnic differences. Consequently, it was a region left
with the scar of more than 120,000 military and civilian casualties.
On January 24, 2014, the Mindanao Peace Agreement between Catholic and Islam representatives
was mediated by HWPL Chairman Man Hee Lee. Recently an HWPL Peace Monument was erected in the
middle of the MILF camp in Sultan Kudarat in recognition.
15,000 soldiers and civilians are strongly in support
of putting an end to all conflicts in Mindanao and are
determined to collaborate with HWPL. Constructing
a peace monument in Sultan Kudarat signifies the
big leap towards transforming armed weapons into
daily instruments symbolizing peace is a feasible
goal.
“
Even if we manage to bring about peace but we individually are not renewed, would peace be of any benefit to us?
Bringing about world peace is not the entire picture.
As peace is achieved in the world, I believe that people
will change as well. We need to create provisions that
prevent any form of armed conflict. We are facing tough
times, so tough that humanity is in danger of destruction.
We cannot just stand by. No matter what it takes,
we must prevent our own destruction.
”
People in Sultan Kudarat, after enduring through
many conflicts, were desperately searching for
peace, but now the region serves as a role model for
bringing peace into conflicted areas. Sultan Kudarat
will be forever remembered as the Peace Attraction
site ushering in the new era of peace.
After carefully selecting a region or place to commemorate peace, please submit photos and an introductory script of a peace attraction in your area to pr_hq@hwpl.kr. You, too, can become a peace messenger
by participating in the Peace Attraction Project!
