Dear Parents/Guardians;
Half of the school year is now over. I wonder if winter is almost over. It is hard to tell
with the weather that we have been having lately, but with time things will warm up.
The days are already much brighter!
Please remember to drive courteously and safely in our school parking lot.
Everyone’s cooperation is needed to keep things safe for all concerned, especially our
children. Please do not leave vehicles parked in the Kiss and Drop and drive with
extreme caution. Many people walk with their children to and from school each day,
weather permitting. You may wish to consider this healthy option as well.
We have many exciting events happening at St Martha School during this month.
We are all gearing up for the grade 4, 5, and 6 science fair. Although the science fair
is not until March 18 the students are working on their projects right now. We will
need at least 50 judges so you may want to consider helping out with judging. Please
let Mr. Abraham know if you can be a judge. Judging will take place from 8:30 until
12:00.
Why do we have a science fair here at our school? Students become very familiar
with components of the curriculum such as the scientific method. They also practice
their public speaking skills when describing their project to the judges. The whole
inquiry process reinforces scientific concepts learned in class. Younger students in
grades 1, 2, and 3 are able to view the projects in the gym as well. Hopefully this will
inspire them for the future. Pop on by to have a look during the morning of March
18! It is a pretty cool event. Maybe some day your son or daughter will be a famous
scientist, inspired in part by their participation in our science fair!
Do you know what your children are doing through social media? Please continue to
monitor their activities and remind them about appropriate usage and sites. Cyber
bullying and predators on the internet is a huge issue in our society right now.
Obviously cyber bullying can cause a lot of damage. As a school we have been
educating the students on proper usage. It is a good idea to monitor this at home as
well. Children can really get carried away, so it is our duty as parents and school staff
to guide them on the proper path.
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone, and God Bless.
