I hope that you enjoy this year’s event and the new features we have added. Please know, I sincerely appreciate your attendance, sponsorship, and mostly your commitment to helping me and my family raise critical funding for ARCO. I know that the babies, children, and adults with developmental disabilities and their families are also very thankful for your support. With current governmental budget constraints ARCO services are available for those who rely on them because of the supplemental funding sources such as United Way of Northeast Louisiana, ARCO’s Annual Membership Campaign, and special fundraising events like Clubs & Aces. I can’t begin to express my gratitude to our Title Sponsor, Louisiana Plastic Industries, Inc. and the entire Wilhite Family. The Wilhite’s have been supporting this event for 8 year’s and have served as the title sponsor and committee volunteers for many of those years. This event and ARCO’s services would not be what they are today without them. I also thank all of the volunteers who serve on the auction and golf committee…you are the foundation of this event---you give your time and talent to make it one of the best events in our area. Lastly, this couldn’t be a ‘celebrity event’ without the support of my friends who have come in this year to lend us their names and hearts. Special thanks to Mr. Vince Papale’ and his wife Janet. I know that Vince has inspired numerous people over the years but I want to personally thank him for coming to share his charisma and to motivate the belief that all things are possible. Now, I am excited to tell you about the event tonight. The Elite Live Auction features 15 packages and the incredible Mike Ackel will introduce them to you like no one else can. These packages are the best of the best folks! You will be able to mark some things off your bucket list tonight! Then a new opportunity, a Second Tier Silent Auction table. This table features great travel, hunting, casino packages, home improvements, and much more. Then comes the Third Tier Silent Auction tables that have an array of items that are sure to please everyone. Both Silent Auction areas, will close during the Live Auction but will quickly reopen when the last item has been won! So, not to worry, if you don’t win the item you wanted in the Elite Live Auction you may not have to go home empty handed. Of course, don’t forget to register for your 5 cards---your poker hand awaits. Once you have your poker hand you will enter them into an electronic Poker Machine! Your cards may match a preset series of numbers in the machine and if they do you will win $50,000! Also, try your luck at the Laser Gun Shootout! Again, thanks to all. Sincerely, Doug Pederson, Quarterbacks Coach, Philadelphia Eagles 2 Welcome & Thanks Dear Friends of ARCO, As we continue to work toward assuring that men, women, and little ones with developmental disabilities have a solid place in the community, we enjoy friendships that insure our success. We are beyond blessed. Again this year’s event combines the support of each of you - volunteers, donors, purchasers, and golf team members - friends who have so generously applied your resources to make this a success. Just as you have come to participate in the Doug Pederson Celebrity Event, you have been here for ARCO in many ways throughout the year. What brings this event’s success to fruition is unparalleled leadership. Consider Doug Pederson, now the Philadelphia Eagles’ Quarterback Coach. His willingness to use his influence to continue this legendary gathering of athletes has been unwavering as has been the remarkable uplifting support and sponsorship of John Mark and Patti Wilhite and the whole Louisiana Plastics, Inc. family. Lives have been changed because of their commitment. We are especially appreciative of each of the celebrities that participate, especially The Invincible Vince Papale and his words of encouragement. In words and by his life’s example, he reminds us that determination and the willingness to take risks overcome barriers - both real and perceived. On behalf of each of the over 200 individuals with developmental disabilities and their families that are served by ARCO and benefit from your attention to their needs through your participation in this event, I offer my most sincere thanks. With gratitude, Terry M. It was a time when Philadelphia fans were buried in 11 years of defeat, when Americans were battling the lingering effects of Watergate, the Vietnam War, and a sweeping energy crisis. Ordinary people appeared badly in need of a champion from their ranks, and a local schoolteacher/coach named Vince Papale answered their call. The Philadelphia Eagles hired a passionate and idealistic rookie Head Coach, Dick Vermeil, who boldly announced that he wanted to shake up his new team and publicized that he is going to conduct an open tryout for all comers. Ignoring all of the naysayers and doubters Vince not only attended the try out he was offered a contract and he got the sweet and ultimate last laugh by making the team. Re-inventing himself from a 30 year old school teacher working on his master’s degree, to an NFL star, Vince Papale defied the million to one odds against him. Not only did he make the team, even though he had no college football experience, he was voted by his teammates captain of the special teams and most recently was selected by the fans as the best Special Teamer in the Eagles 75 year history. He has also received numerous awards around the country for his charitable contributions and efforts including the coveted Vince Lombardi Award for Courage for overcoming his dance with colon cancer. Vince is the subject of the blockbuster Disney movie, Invincible, which topped the charts for 2 straight weeks after its release 3 years ago. Date for the event will be announced at a later date. The Governor’s Mansion was built in 1963 when Jimmie Davis was Governor of Louisiana. The Mansion is located on Capital Lake near the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge. This period marks a distinct departure from earlier Louisiana architecture. The Mansion was designed by the architectural firm of Annan and Gilmer of Shreveport, Louisiana. The inspiration for the exterior design was Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie, Louisiana. The following are Margaret’s personal feelings regarding the painting: “This painting is the first and the largest in the rocks and gravel series. The series is based on the idea of finding interest in unexpected places. I imagined viewing a pile of rocks up close. This would be something we normally would pass by, step on, and never notice, but if you stop and observe, you may be surprised of the organic life peeping through the gravel. Some of the most colorful and interesting textural juxtapositions can be discovered in such a place. What a beautiful metaphor to life that reminds us not to get complacent with the ordinary. Instead, force yourself to slow down and observe the ordinary through a different mindset that may allow unexpected beauty. Sometimes we don’t need to change our circumstances, just our state of mind.” Donation • 4’ x 4’ Painting by Margaret Becton Restrictions None Donated by: Kim and Dr. William C.
