THE INSIDE PITCH WEEK 2 MASTERS N O V. 6 th South Bend Cardinals baserunner steals second vs. the Minnesota Bandits Big Boys Project Washington Titans manager Mic Stump has retired (from his real job) and is working on a book about adult baseball people, who we are, how we are and what we do … good, ugly and funny! “I want to compile stories from our fellow ball players spanning the over 20 years we’ve been able to enjoy playing the wonderful pastime called baseball,” Mic said. “As you know whenever we ball players get together we exchange tales and lies of our exploits and our teammates – mostly lies coiffured in ‘exaggeration’. It’s always amazed me the tales we tell on each other. And I want to compile these and share them.” This project – he’s calling it the ‘Big Boys Project’ – was a dream of Bob Wagner, who helped bring Roy Hobbs to Lee County in 1993. Bob had just started compiling stories when he passed away in 2001. And Roy Hobbs Baseball is committed to helping see that such a project gets completed… as there’s lots of funny, poignant and heart-warming material available. Mic is looking for stories that he can work with to ensure the meaning and descriptions “bring forth the joy we’ve all felt following our avocation – baseball.” Contact Mic at zehndorfer@comcast.net to share your ideas and stories. photo by Greg Wagner NOTEBOOK Upgrades available on MVP awards MVP and team award certificates should be redeemed at the Roy Hobbs World Series Headquarters at the Player Development Complex on Fridays or Saturdays. Samples of the MVP items are on display in our Pro Shop. The RHWS MVP award is a personalized Polo Shirt in one of four available colors. It will include the RHWS MVP logo, player’s name and team and ship directly to the player in January or February unless otherwise requested. Shipping is included within the continental US. This year there are three potential upgrades on the MVP Award choices: First option is a Wind Shirt in navy or black. It will also include the RHWS Logo, player’s name and team. Cost of the wind shirt is $55, including shipping and applicable taxes within the continental US. Players may opt to take the wind shirt instead of the polo, making the cost upgrade $15 inclusive. Second option is a personalized trophy bat with the RHWS logo, player’s name and team inscribed in the barrel. Cost of the bat is $90, including shipping and applicable taxes within the continental US. Players may opt to take the bat instead of the polo, making the cost upgrade $50, inclusive. Third option is a belt buckle with two designs to choose from, again with the RHWS MVP logo and player’s name / team. Cost of this item is $110, including shipping and applicable taxes within the continental US. Players may opt to take the belt buckle instead of the polo, making the cost upgrade $70, inclusive. Lastly, Roy Hobbs has a ring option available. Examples of these rings can be found in the Pro Shop and on our website. Pricing varies, so players wishing to explore this option should contact Tom Giffen directly to discuss options and pricing. Players may opt to order a ring instead of the polo, and $40 will be deducted from the cost. Every team is issued an MVP certificate. Players in possession of their certificate or the manager can come to Headquarters and see Karen, Mike or Rob to get the award order taken care of. Managers appointing an additional MVP need to report to the office to name his players and pay the additional fee of $45. see NOTEBOOK on page 7 2 MASTERS AAAA PLAYOFF Thursday Friday MASTERS AAA PLAYOFF Saturday Friday #1 Springtown Mudcats #1 Puerto Rico Orioles 7 (G1 #1 Springtown Mudcats #16 BYE #1 Puerto Rico Orioles 2 PM @ PDC2 (G9 #8 Lansing Blue Jays 2 PM @ LC4 (G5 10 AM @ PDC2 (G2 #5 Harry Young Builders - 5 #9 FM Hooter's Blues 10 AM @ #5 Dayton Ballers 10 AM @ CP-S (G11 10 AM @ PDC3 (G3 #12 Chicago Giants #3 OBA Brewers - 5 2 PM @ PDC3 (G10 #4 DuPage Lugnuts #2 HPK Oilers 2 PM @ JB5 (G6 (G4 #4 DuPage Lugnuts (G5 #3 Orlando Blazers #13 BYE #2 HPK Oilers -7 #3 Orlando Blazers 1:30 PM @ LC-S (G14 Thursday Friday Saturday #14 BYE 2 PM @ PDC4 (G11 #6 Glory Days #3 OBA Brewers #8 Chicago Woodpeckers 4 10 AM PDC4 (G6 #11 Border City Brewers 10 AM @ JB-S (G9 #4 Charlotte 2 PM @ LC3 (G7 Kings #4 Charlotte Kings - 14 10 AM @ #7 Carolina Thunder 2 PM @ LC-S (G12 10 AM @ PDC5 (G7 #6 Pittsburgh 3 #10 NW Indiana Dogs #7 Minnesota Bulldogs 2 PM @ JB3 (G8 10 AM @ LC-S (G13 #7 Minnesota Bulldogs - 4 2 PM @ PDC5 (G12 #2 Tennessee Dirtbags 10 AM @ LC-S (G10 #5 Harry Young Builders (G8 L11 #15 BYE #2 Tennessee Dirtbags 3 MASTERS AA PLAYOFF MASTERS A PLAYOFF Friday Friday #1 San Antonio Lonestars (G1 #1 Chicago Knights #1 San Antonio Lonestars (G1 #16 BYE #1 Chicago Knights #16 BYE 2 PM @ JB2 (G9 #8 Kenmore Orioles 2 PM @ TP2 (G9 #8 Midwest Pirates 10 AM @ JB2 (G2 10 AM @ TP3 (G2 #9 Lake Erie Blue Jays #9 PSOF Rangers 10 AM @ PDC2 (G14 #5 Tallahassee Bombers #5 Texas A's of NJ 10 AM @ LC2 (G3 10 AM @ JB3 (G3 #12 Crystal Clinic Indians #11 Minnesota Bandits 2 PM @ LC4 (G10 #4 Boston GoodFellas 2 PM @ JB5 (G10 #4 Tidewater Drillers 10 AM @ LC3 (G4 10 AM @ JB4 (G4 #13 Staten Island Bombers #13 Salem Pitt Warlocks #3 Ft Myers Brewers #3 efdavis&assoc.
