melting action. Hunters are stationed in 10 blinds surrounding a hidden tower. Three hundred birds are flighted as single or doubles through the shooters, and blinds are rotated every 15 shots. Trained Labrador Retrievers collect every downed bird. This event will consist of two 20-gun shoots: one morning session and one afternoon. Refreshments are provided during the shoot, and Westervelt Lodge’s famous fried chicken lunch will be served between the morning and afternoon sessions. If so, join Friends of Catch-ADream Foundation at Westervelt Lodge in Aliceville, Alabama, for a continental pheasant shoot on February 24, 2012. Catch-A-Dream Foundation, a Mississippi-based 501(c)(3) grants once-in-a-lifetime hunting and fishing experiences to children 18 years old or younger who have a life-threatening illness. The foundation’s singular purpose is to provide consumptive use outdoor experiences to fill the “gap” created when the Make-A-Wish Foundation established national policy that precludes granting a child a wish that involves hunting or use of “… firearms, hunting bows, or other hunting or sportshooting equipment.” Continental pheasant shoots are modeled after European driven-style pheasant shoots, with barrel- Participation is limited to 40 shooters. Early registration is recommended. Registration is $325 and includes participation in one 300-bird shoot, refreshments, lunch, door prizes, and cleaned and packaged birds to take home for the grill. Known for its superb hunting and beautiful setting, Westervelt Lodge’s 10,000 acres are anchored by a top-notch lodge with a friendly and professional staff. The lodge is located in Pickens County, Alabama, and is approximately one hour from Starkville, Mississippi. Directions can be found at www.westerveltlodge.com or by calling (800) 281-7991.
