Mobily Announces Obtaining A Vendor Financing Shariah Compliant In The Amount Of 750 Million London: Nashrati Mobily signed on 26 June, 2014 a long term vendor financing agreement with Canadian export credit agency or Export Development Canada (EDC) for USD 200 million equivalent to Saudi Riyal 750 million (with no corporate guarantee). The purpose of the Shariah-compliant financing is to acquire telecommunications equipment from Alcatel-Lucent to upgrade/enhance the network. The appointed banks are Credit Agricole, Societe Generale & Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi as MLAs (mandated lead arrangers). The total tenor of the facilities is 10.5 years, and will be utilized over a period of 2 years. The activities of the club were reviewed in addition to other activities related to applications through Mobley’s portal: Developers developers.mobily.com.sa Efficiency is not about cutting cost and reducing expenses only. It is a process that requires a skilled surgeon who can balance between quality and shrinking budgets. If it is not done properly, not only quality of service will be affected, even assets might be harmed which again will need new flush of expenses to rectify. This circle might span over a long period of time and become contiguous throughout the organization. Undoubtedly, efficiency is crucial for any organization as a main driver to improve operational efficiency, even if they are rapidly growing in a comfort zone, yet efficiency is still needed and can be achieved through other means not necessarily cutting cost. Time and efforts are money. Mental and physical stress are costly too. I a recent study published in Harvard Business Review, three consultants analyzed the meetings schedules of the staff of a large organization. They found out that only the weekly meeting of each department eats up 300,000 hours a year for all staff. Let me do my assumptions here, a weekly meeting will not be less than two hours for sure, and is held in 10 months excluding annual leaves and public holidays. That will make 80 hours per employee per annum, which means this organization has around 3750 employees since the total number of hours spent on meetings is 300,000. This can be considered inevitable but the big question is how many hours have been spent to prepare for the weekly meeting! I believe more. Consultants suggested that holding meetings while standing up can contribute in saving 34% of time without affecting the quality of decisions made. This a good example of efficiency without further cutting costs. In Mobily we still have long way to achieve what I call the real comprehensive efficiency. Nonetheless, moving to a paperless and digital work environment is a live example of innovation and efficiency being committed which resulted in saving time, efforts and money. E or I bill is another good example which we have already witnessing its fruits. As for finance, the move from traditional financing to international credit exports financing with low rate and better facilities is a strategic step towards operational efficiency. Human Resources’ transformation into full automated transactions helps saving time and efforts of staff, easing processes with much faster reachability. Other scattered examples like efficiency of spaces and equipment etc., can be quoted here yet I personally believe time remains one of the most valuable components that needs to be considered when it comes to real efficiency. I don’t know your sex, your age. I have not the slightest clue about your height, nationality or looks. But one thing I’m certain of: you’re sitting down right now. You might think, “So what?”, and the answer is: sitting is a disease. The human body is not designed for sitting. You have muscles eagerly awaiting movement to get more effective; bones ready to strengthen with some exercise and sunlight; neurons thirsting to be activated with a bit of exercise. In short, you have a powerful, fully-equipped army at your service, and you’re weakening this army with one thing: prolonged sitting. Perhaps sitting is unavoidable for us office workers, and here another question arises: what are the dangers of sitting? Far too numerous to count. They include a 15% chance of dying within 15 years for those who sit more than 6 hours a day, something not even exercise -- despite being the healthiest thing you can do -- can mitigate. Only decreasing sitting hours can help. Sitting increases body weight, and this has well-known effects, but sitting’s damage is actually instantaneous: once you sit, electrical activity in the legs stops; LDL (“bad”) cholesterol increases; and 24 hours later, insulin becomes less effective, increasing your risk for diabetes. A 2008 report found that fat-burning enzymes stop working once you sit down. These enzymes are constantly burning fat, but once you sit down, they are instantly switched off. The solution? The best thing is to break long sitting hours with movement: every half an hour move around a little. At the very least, walk around your desk for 2 minutes every 1-2 hours. But the good news is that if it’s difficult for you to leave your desk and move around then there is a solution: standing up! The Mayo Clinic advises you to stand to avoid the bad effects of sitting. And notice how damaging sitting is, where merely standing up is helpful! If you’re on the phone with someone: stand up. If you’re on your computer: stand up. If you’re reviewing documents on your desk: stand up. That is it, folks. Sitting for long hours is one of the biggest sources of disease and weakness in this age. Each Elite Professional will get 4 different, 6 month rotational assignments covering Commercial, Technological, Financial and Support areas. In this program, the Mobily Elite Professionals are mentored by different Mobily senior-experienced staff of a Director level or above to support the learning curve and shape their abilities and skills. Mobily Elite Professionals will learn knowledge & experience from colleagues while being coached by Functional Managers and are assessed on their performances for their contribution to Mobily’s vision while being rotated and sharing knowledge. Zaid Elgibreen Upon the rotation, what did you learn in your previous dept. that helped you add value in your current rotation: Having learned technical details and work flow in my first rotation, I added value to the second department by fast tracking any requests or needs due to my connections and prior knowledge of the previous department and how it operated. How did your relationship in your previous rotation help facilitate matters in your current rotation? it made tasks move faster and work got done much faster. This was due to me cutting through the hierarchy of communication and going straight away to the related person. Also having prior relationships with individuals, I was able to convince them to redo some tasks. So instead of our Director contacting the other department’s director for simple tasks and waiting for a long chain of communication, I would go straight away to the engineer or technician due to my prior relationship with him and his department. Did you learn something in your previous rotation that you introduced in your current one and how did it help? In my second rotation, i was able recognize an issue with the “Project Handing Over” process by comparing it with similar process I learned in my previous rotation . This issue was solved in my first rotation by fixing some parts of the process. Due to the similarities of the processes I was able to introduce some solutions to the issue and worked with the team to fix this process. This solution when applied, it will minimize the chances of any lateness in handing over the project to operation and will make work move much more smoothly. Did you educate your colleagues in your current rotation about important aspects you learned in your previous one? I was able to explain some unanswered questions about my previous department’s way of work. it may not fixed problems directly but it definitely helped them understand more why certain things took the time they take or why certain requests were rejected. Did you share learning’s from your previous rotation with your current one that helped others as well? I shared general information (social, managerial, processes) about my previous rotation. However I wasn’t able to share any deep technical information Mobily Succeeds in Attracting the Best Young National Competencies through the Elite Program Riyadh- Nashrati. The Elite Program, launched a year ago by Mobily, succeeded in attracting a number of young national competencies. The program is part of the company’s plans to promote these employees and help them reach the highest degrees of professional competency. The program was well received by the male and female employees who joined it. They combine practical work to training in all of the company’s administrations. The two-year program aims to ensure a professional promotion in all the fields in which Mobily operates. The Chief Executive for Human Resources, Dr. Hamad Alhashemi, emphasized that the Elite Program was launched after an extensive study carried out by specialized world centers. The best processes were applied to ensure its success and to make it attain the world standards that the company seeks to establish as part of its future-oriented vision. Dr. Al Hashemi also explained that the company has made great efforts to create a work environment that contributes to the success of the program and to provide the proper support for the graduates who joined it to build an outstanding career. The program attracted a number of graduates from Saudi universities as well as scholarship students from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Program. Female university graduates were also given the opportunity to join the program and be recruited in accordance to the company’s strategies aiming to develop effective activities in the future. Mobily’s summer and collaborative training targets a number of male and female graduates from prestigious local universities. They were selected after making personal interviews that served to determine the candidates’ ability of integration, team work, and level of English language proficiency. This training program is one of the main channels of employment for male and female graduates. The Elite Program members are given the opportunity to participate in the various activities organized by the Mobily company, which adds to the spirit of competition and innovation inside the company. 6 Issue 77 -Ramadan 1435 - July 2014 Bassem Mohammad N. Alfassam Ethics and Compliance senior Specialist Manager Internal Audit Dept. A few days ago, I received an e-mail from a European friend of mine. He congratulated me on the holy month Ramadan and asked me to read some new articles about the basics of work ethics. The basics mentioned in the article included truthfulness, honesty, integrity, antifraud, anti-bribery, and a list of other values. When I finished reading the article, I sent a reply to my friend to thank him for his wishes and tell him that I enjoyed so much reading the article. In fact, the article made me think about the basics of work ethics and how they have to be part of the Muslim’s personality even if he never joined a course on work ethics or read an article showing the consequences of bribery and Fraud. I remembered verses from the Holy Quran that urge us to deal with each other according to these ethics. Allah SWT says “Eat not up your property among yourselves in vanities”. In another verse, He enjoins justice and equality (“Allah commands justice”). In yet another surah, Allah says “Woe to those that deal in fraud” to warn us against cheating. There are also many hadiths from the prophetic tradition talking about the same subject. These include, for instance: “He who cheats us is none of us” and “You must tell the truth. Truthfulness leads to right action. Right action leads to the Garden.” In another hadith, the prophet SAWS says: “The curse of Allah is upon the one who offers a bribe and the one who takes it.” If the Muslim is truthful and honest when dealing with his suppliers, customers, and colleagues in his company, he does not only show a commitment to the company’s policies and ethic codes but he also proves that he is following in the footsteps of the prophet Mohammed, SAWS, who was sent to perfect values and ethics. If this employee refuses money and presents that would certainly raise many questions about his own honesty and integrity, it is an evidence of his abiding by antibribery rules as well as his obedience to the orders of our prophet who warmed us against it. If he adheres to equality in his treatment of his follow- employees or suppliers or customers, he does not only aim to be lawful but to carry out Allah’s orders as well. In addition, if he avoids lying, forgery, fraud and embezzlement, he does not do it out of fear of being penalized or sacked but rather to implement the prophet’s words “He who cheats us is none of us.” Besides, if the Muslim is committed to these virtues which his religion enjoins, he will set a good example for all those who deal with him including employees, suppliers, companies, etc.; and will make himself and his company worthy of trust and respect. In the evening, while having my first Ramadan iftar (breakfast) with my family, I seized the opportunity to share with them the thoughts I had about Islam and ethical values. My six-year-old son, Mohammed asked me so innocently when I finished talking: “Father, what is bribery?” I smiled at him and said: “You’ll know when you get older, Mohammed. May Allah protect you from the evils of bribery. Amen.” “Amen,” he said. And we went on with our meal. Innovation Mcdonald’s My Burger Campaign Generated Over 45.000 New Burger Recipes Each company has its own marketing approach; while some launch expensive advertising campaigns, others have learned to let their customers do the marketing for them. In 2011, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of McDonald’s in Germany, the company launched the My Burger campaign, which encouraged customers to create their own custom-made burgers by choosing from 70 different ingredients. On the platform, participants submitted their burger ideas and then shared them with friends over social media to gain votes. In the end, five winners were selected to work with McDonald’s experts to prepare their recipes, which were sold at all McDonald’s branches in Germany. A week after the campaign was launched, over 45,000 recipes were submitted and over 12,000 marketing campaigns were launched by participants, and the project won a silver medallion at the AME Awards that year for Most Creative Marketing Campaign. By using this strategy, McDonald’s not only marketed itself for free and earned the attention of one in four Germans, it also collected a variety of creative ideas that could help the company shape future recipe decisions. As a paradigm, open innovation is defined as the process of seeking new ideas and feedback from external as well as internal channels. Sometimes, as in the case of toy company LEGO, open innovation can even rescue a company from a dire fate. In the 1990s, LEGO was facing bankruptcy, as video games began competing with its plastic bricks. In order to stay in the game, the company turned to Open Innovation, launching LEGaaaaaaaaaaabots. After developing the program for seven years, in partnership with MIT, the compaaaaaany debuted the platform in 1998, launching a competition that attracted more than 1000 advanced users during the first three weeks. During the competition, users added new functions to LEGO’s products and created original designs, which eventually helped the increase LEGO sales and target people who weren’t interested in LEGO before.
