Dear Families,
We are so excited and thankful with the changing seasons and the changing weather to be a
part of your families.
We are excited to announce that we have
hired Linda Jasper as a parent educator so some
of you will be seeing her in the near future. She
has a degree in teaching and has worked with
kids and families for many years. All of our families will be receiving services for 3-5 year olds
beginning in early January. We thank you for your
patience as we make sure that are parent educators have the best training!
Please look for our upcoming dates for a group
connections and the opportunity to connect with
other families in the district.

We would like to invite you to help support Parents as Teachers by eating pizza. On the fourth
Wednesday of each month, starting in September,
Pizza Hut in Pacific will donate 20% of your order to
Parents as Teachers. Flyers are emailed monthly to
all parents/guardians that have an email address on
file. Use one of the flyers and share the other with a
friend or family member. If you are not receiving
these emails and would like to help, please call or

READING
Why do I need to read to my child?
About 10 million children have difficulties learning to read. 950,000 people in Missouri age 16 and
older do not have high school diploma.
Overall, children under age 13 spend 90 minutes
a day in front of the TV (one quarter of their free
time!).
When should I begin reading to my child?
Read Me a Story — Hours of Reading Books
by age 5:
If you read 30 minutes daily, the child has 900
hours by age 5.
If you read 30 minutes weekly, the child has 130
hours by age 5.
If you read less than 30 minutes weekly, the
child has 60 hours by age 5.
Reading to a child for 30 minutes per day from
infancy helps prepare a child to learn. (Parents,
don’t forget to keep reading with your child on a
daily basis!)
*Excludes gift cards, money orders and services.
All children 3 to 35 months old in the MVR3
School District are eligible to be screened once a
school year. Children are screened in the areas of
communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem
solving, personal-social, hearing and vision. The
screenings provide early detection of potential problems and prevent later difficulties in school. You will
need to have a copy of your child’s immunization
record available for the health questionnaire. You
do not need to be enrolled in P.A.T. to have your
child screened.
The screenings take place in your home or at the
Early Childhood Center and are scheduled with a
Parents as Teachers Parent Educator. You can go
online and sign up at mvr3.k12.mo.us under the
Parent & Student tab, click the Parents as Teachers
page. Sign up links are located at the bottom of the
P.A.T. homepage.
We will process your request and a P.A.T. Parent Educator will contact you to set up a date.
For more information call Parents as Teachers
at (636) 271-1459 or
email the P.A.T. secretary at
