SI INTERCEPTOR Instruction Manual ERITECH SI INTERCEPTOR - I N ST R U CT I O N M A N UA L ERITECH SI INTERCEPTOR Instruction Manual www.erico.com 1 ERITECH SI INTERCEPTOR - I N ST R U CT I O N M A N UA L Installation Guidelines ➜ For full details on installing your SI INTERCEPTOR, please refer to ERICO’s technical notes and the French national standard NFC17-102. It is also recommended to adhere to local standards for relevant local down conductor and grounding requirements. This manual is a guide to the Installation, Operation and Maintenance of the ERITECH® SI INTERCEPTOR Lightning Protection System. It assumes that the system to be installed has been designed by an authorized ERICO representative. The system design will include: • Grounding systems design – a configuration should be designed as a result of soil resistivity analysis. Certification The certification of the ERITECH SI INTERCEPTOR installation must be performed by an authorised ERICO representative. This is done in conjunction with issuing of a Certificate of Compliance, which is available from your nearest ERICO office. When this certificate has been completed and signed, a copy must be either taken by the ERICO representative or sent to the nearest ERICO office. During the process of certification, the following will be checked: • Downconductor routes - chosen to avoid other services, maintain minimum bending radii and minimize down conductor run length. • Downconductor securing requirements. • LPSD - CAD analysis design software which determines terminal placement, mast & height requirements as well as protection level calculation. All of the above are recommended for a successful installation. If there is any doubt about any of the points mentioned, please contact ERICO or its nearest representative for clarification. • Installation matches the Benji design. • The integrity of the mast and any associated brackets and fastenings. Warning - Only attempt to install the ERITECH® SI INTERCEPTOR during storm-free periods. • Guying, anchor points and fastenings. • Downconductor routing, securing and seals. • Ground termination of down-conductor. ➜ The SI INTERCEPTOR must be at least 2 meters higher than any other point on the structure it is intended to protect. • Grounding System. • Labelling. ➜ The resistance of the lightning protection grounding system must be less than 10 ohms. This should be measured without downconductor(s) connected and without interconnection to other grounding systems. • Certificate of Compliance and Warranty Card completed and returned. • General mechanical check of all fastenings. 2 www.erico.com ERITECH SI INTERCEPTOR - I N ST R U CT I O N M A N UA L Operation and Maintenance to the structure. Check that the guys are secure and undamaged. Replace if necessary. Check that all fastenings are secure and tight. The ERITECH® SI INTERCEPTOR lightning protection system requires no user operation and is completely automatic in operation. 5. Look for signs of damage to the downconductor (whether by lightning, careless handling, vandalism or other causes). • The SI becomes active only during storm activity. • The system does not require any external power requirements or replacement components for normal operation. 6. Check that the Lightning Event Counter is secure, if the display is registering a reading, then record the reading and date. • It is essential that the ERITECH® SI INTERCEPTOR Lightning Protection System be regularly maintained. Maintenance should be undertaken: 7. Ensure the grounding resistance is less than 10 . 8. Check the continuity of all bonding conductors 1. After each known strike to the SI INTERCEPTOR or at least once per year. 2. If any changes have been made to the structure, whether they be structural, antennae or Building Maintenance Unit additions, etc. Installation Instructions The recommended order of installation is as follows: Maintenance should be undertaken as follows: 1. Full installation of the grounding system. 2. Full installation of the downconductor. Do not attempt maintenance during potential lightning periods. 3. Termination of the downconductor to the grounding system. 4. Terminate the top of the downconductor to the SI INTERCEPTOR mast. 1. Check that the building is the same physical shape and that no additional structures such as antennae, advertising signs, satellite dishes, Building Maintenance Units or similar have been installed within 2m (80in.) height of the SI INTERCPTOR. 5. Raise the mast into position and secure. 2. Inspect the SI INTERCEPTOR to ensure that it is not dented or physically damaged in any way. 3. Inspect the Finial Tip on top of the SI INTERCEPTOR to ensure that it is not excessively burnt, deformed or missing. 4. Check that the mast is securely attached www.erico.com 3 ERITECH SI INTERCEPTOR - I N ST R U CT I O N M A N UA L Typical MAST Installation Arrangement For Cantilevered Mast (range 2-4 metres) SI-125, SI-140 or SI-60 TERMINATION COUPLER supplied with ER1-1000-SS or ER1-2000-SS MAST (ER1-1000-SS) or (ER1-2000-SS) TMC-SS TMC-SS LPC580 CABTIE-SS MAST OPTIONS ER1-1000-SS ER1-2000-SS MAST (ER2-2000-SS) or (ER2-3000-SS) 1m ALOF-1-GS ER2-2000-SS ER2-3000-SS ER3-2000-SS ER3-3000-SS DOWNCONDUCTOR Refer to your local standard for downconductor requirements. 4 www.erico.com ERITECH SI INTERCEPTOR - I N ST R U CT I O N M A N UA L Typical MAST Installation Arrangement For Cantilevered Mast (range 4-6 metres) SI-125, SI-140 or SI-60 TERMINATION COUPLER supplied with ER1-1000-SS or ER1-2000-SS MAST (ER1-1000-SS) or (ER1-2000-SS) MAST (ER2-2000-SS) or (ER2-3000-SS) TMC-SS TMC-SS LPC580 CABTIE-SS MAST (ER3-2000-SS) or (ER3-3000-SS) MAST OPTIONS ER1-1000-SS ER1-2000-SS 1m MAST (ER2-2000-SS) or (ER2-3000-SS) ALOF-1-GS ER2-2000-SS ER2-3000-SS 1m ER3-2000-SS ER3-3000-SS DOWNCONDUCTOR Refer to your local standard for downconductor i t www.erico.com 5 ERITECH SI INTERCEPTOR - I N ST R U CT I O N M A N UA L Typical MAST Installation Arrangement For Guyed Mast (range 3-5 metres) S125, S140 or S160 MAST (ER1-1000-SS) or ER1-2000-SS) TERMINATION COUPLER suppiled with ER1-1000-SS or ER1-2000-SS Do not over-tension Guy Wires (Slightly sagging) TMC-SS TMC-SS LPC580 Guy Kit (GUY KIT 4) Anchor Points not supplied with GUYKIT 4 CABTIE-SS Mast (ER2-3000-SS or ER2-2000-SS) Support Base (ER2-BASE-SS) MAST OPTIONS Preferred Angle 45˚ - 60˚ 4 Holes, Ø12.5mm ER2-2000-SS ER2-3000-SS 229mm 178mm ER1-1000-SS ER1-2000-SS ER2-BASE-SS ER3-2000-SS ER3-3000-SS DOWNCONDUCTOR Refer to your local standard for downconductor requirements.
