4th of July Bike Parade & Celebration
Come celebrate Independence Day at the Clubhouse & Pool with some traditional patriotic fun! Be sure
to decorate your bikes, tricycles, riding toys & scooters for this special holiday because our kids bike
parade will start the day off right. Parade line-up will begin at 9:15 a.m. in the Clubhouse/Pool parking
lot followed by a 9:30 a.m. judging. Prizes will be awarded to the best decorated bike (tricycle, riding
toy or scooter, etc.) in three different age categories. Everyone who participates will be sure to get some
patriotic goodies!!
After the parade the pool will open at 10 a.m. There will be poolside activities & games throughout the
day (schedule below). If contests are not your thing then we welcome you to kick off your flip-flops and
cut a rug to some good tunes because the band, “Tastes like Chicken 5.0 “ will be making their
appearance from 1-5 p.m. Be sure to bring cash because the Chili Man will be poolside with delicious
items made to order throughout the day.
Back by popular demand we welcome the infamous Cardboard Boat Race so be sure to start
working on those immediately because this competition requires a lot of crafting to win!
Rules:
1.Work in pairs to make a boat using ONLY two materials… CARDBOARD and DUCT TAPE!! If you
decide to use paddles, they too must be made ONLY out of cardboard and duct tape. The use of any
other material is grounds for disqualification.
2.Decorations are welcome, however, they may not contribute to helping the boat keep afloat.

“Sweet Summertime”
Davis Lake has been keeping busy with fun and entertaining events for all ages & holidays.
The summer kicked off with bringing two holidays together: Cinco de Mayo & Mother’s
Day. We began festivities at the Clubhouse for this epic “Cinco de Mama” event filled
with fun piñata games and a contest for best margaritas & home made salsas. For select
photos be sure to turn to page 4.
The pool had its grand opening on May 19th and had a great turnout of sun bathing folks. A week later
Davis Lake residents gathered poolside for our annual “Memorial Day Celebration”. We were accompanied
by DJ Bill Pellerin & kept feed by the infamous Chili Man throughout the day with all of his signature
cooked to order meals. Families & friends enjoyed many games for all ages including our traditional coin,
soda, juice box & adult beverage dive. Other activities included a “Water Balloon Toss”, &
“Musical Beach Balls” for all to participate, “Duck Toss” & “Hot Potato” for the little ones
and an “Adult Survivor Relay” & “Frozen T-Shirt Contest”. We made sure everyone was able
to cool off by distributing complementary ice cream cups & freeze pops. Select photos from
this event can be found on page 4.
We made sure to celebrate the end to another school year and welcoming summertime with our “School’s
Out Party!” on June 8th. The event was quite the success!! We had one of our popular “Burger Nights” to
help raise money for Clarks Creek Nature Preserve– our neighbor down the street that is looking to raise
money in order to help improve the park to becoming a patron friendly area with restrooms, receptacles and
other basic amenities. Please refer to the June communiqué for more information on this amazing cause.
The grill was cranked at 6 p.m. and thanks to the Kirschman family, the Travers family, Jesse Willems ,
Megan Morsillo & Gary Strader we were able to keep food cooked to order and satisfy the demand.
“Partners for Parks”, an organization that is helping Clarks
Creek reach their goal, had staff members at the pool with live
turtles & a corn snake named “Popcorn” for residents to learn
more about & to interact with. The night winded down with our
“Dive-In Movie” event that began at dusk. The movie we showed
was a “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”, which was a big hit
with the audience! We are proud to say the event was a success
with everyone staying entertained and well feed– not to mention
we raised over $600 for Clarks Creek (Continued on Page 6).

Sweet Summertime” (continued from page 3)
For more photos from the “School’s Out Party” be sure to refer to
page 5. The most recent event we had this summer was our “2nd
Annual Father’s Day Fishing Tournament”. We had a great turnout
as lots of Davis Lake families joined around the lake gazebo. The
day started off with a demonstration and the first catch of the day–
both by Joe Fass (photo to the right). After a few hours of fishing
and many catches later, the tournament moved to the Clubhouse for
a homemade BBQ lunch & award ceremony. Everyone who came
out received a “Participation Certificate” to honor the day. Other
awards included 3 winners in each age group for the “Fish Fish
Caught”, “Most Fish Caught” & the “Largest Fish Caught”. Meanwhile, the pool was kept entertained for Father’s Day by jamming
out to tunes by Davis Lake resident Brian, better known as DJ Festivus. Brian set up prior to opening and did not
leave the pool until it was close to closing time. For more photos from the fishing tournament & DJ Festivus be
sure to turn to page 5. Even more photos can be found on the “Davis Lake Social Activities” page on Facebook.

IMPORTANT BOARD MEETING: JULY 11th at 7 p.m.
Two very important people will be attending the July Davis Lake Board of Directors
meeting on July 11th. One of them includes CMPD Officer C. Sayre & the other is Harris Teeter President,
Fred Morganthall. Please feel free to contact Megan at club@davislake.org if you cannot be in attendance
and would like to submit questions to be brought up at the meeting for Officer C. Sayre or
Mr. Fred Morganthall
CMPD OFFICER C. SAYRE
Breaking & entering crimes have been committed around the Davis
Lake area of Charlotte and CMPD is here to help prevent this from
happening to you and your family. CMPD Officer C. Sayre will be
attending the meeting to emphasize the importance of basic safety
precautions all of us should partake. Feel free to bring any questions
you may have to the meeting. A few ideas Officer Sayre will focus on
include, but are not limited to, the following:
 Keeping garage doors shut
 Not leaving valuables visible at night
 Being sure that all car & house doors are locked
Being aware of the above precautions will go a long way. Be sure to report any suspicious
act before it is to late. One important key is COMMUNICATION. Be sure to give as much
detail as possible in the description. Even the simplest of concerns can be called in. For
example, if you see someone illegally fishing in our lake call it in. Officer Sayre has already
caught one person this summer. The more hands on deck, the better!
HARRIS TEETER PRESIDENT FRED MORGANTHALL
Fred Morganthall will be attending the July 11th board meeting as he would like to address
the Davis Lake community about plans for the new Harris Teeter store in the Shoppes at
Davis Lake. This meeting will be very insightful for both Mr. Morganthall & our Davis Lake
community.
The goal of the meeting is for Davis Lake residents to get exclusive information about the
new Harris Teeter that will be going in the Shoppes at Davis Lake where Lowe’s Food used
to be located. Harris Teeter is also looking to receive insight from Davis Lake about what
they are looking for in this location, suggestions, comments & concerns.
We need for Davis Lake to mark their calendars and come to the July board meeting to show
support and represent our community to the President of Harris Teeter. Let’s show them they
made the right decision to become our neighbor!!

New Kiosks/Landscaping: McGee Brothers have been working diligently on the new
kiosks this past month throughout our Davis Lake community. Once all of the signs are
completed McGee Brothers will be cleaning all of the signs. Terra Green Landscaping
will be installing pine needles around each sign to prevent red clay from splashing and
staining the brick.. The landscaping will not begin until the Fall season since there is no
irrigation in place at the entrances.
Tennis & Volleyball Courts: Court One began working on the courts in mid June. The
net & hardware on the volleyball court has been replaced along with the posts that
support the net itself. The tennis courts were painted & sealed with a fresh coat of green
paint.
Pool Lights: The lights surrounding the pool have been evaluated & replaced to better
visibility during evening hours and afterhours events & rentals.
Minor Improvements: The Board has approved getting hooks installed in the pool
restrooms on the stall doors, touching up the Clubhouse interior walls & a new television
for the fitness room.

A Word from pH Pool Management
The following incident did not occur at Davis Lake, however, we wanted to emphasize that safety is of great
importance here at pH Pool Management. As many of you may have seen or heard from various news
reports, a seven year old boy nearly drowned in a Charlotte community pool the first weekend of June. A
lifeguard was present and pulled the boy from the water and initiated CPR. The boy was taken to the
hospital with life threatening injuries. This accident has weighed on me heavily over the weekend as I
considered how we can prevent an accident of this nature from ever occurring at a pH Pool Managed
facility. I believe the answer lies in a joint effort to protect our children.
Safety has always been our number one goal, and over the days and weeks
to come we will be reviewing all of our safety protocols to ensure we are
doing everything we can as a lifeguard staff to protect the public. In return,
I would ask you to remind your members of the importance of being
vigilant as parents and caregivers at the pool, because in the end there
is no care that a lifeguard can provide that is better than that of a parent.
Thank you for your business and please let us know if we can do any
more to improve our service.

The 25 Mile Club
The 25 Mile Club is a season long swimming competition amongst residents. You have
from pool opening day, May 19th ,until the last day of the season, September 9th, to
complete 25 miles in laps. We have had a great turnout!! We are still looking for winners so

too of course!! There is a notebook located at the Pool Check-in Desk where each resident
participating will track their own number of laps. Spread
the word!! *Reminder: a lap is 2 lengths of the lap lanes,

The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) is
dedicated to keeping our community within the
architectural specification that help make it a great
and beautiful place to live. Their role is to evaluate
proposed modifications to one’s home and/or
property to ensure they conform to the ARC
specifications. All exterior modifications to homes
and/or landscaping must be submitted for review
and approval by the ARC before work is started.
Also, all trees must be approved prior to being cut
down. Applications should be dropped off at the
Clubhouse. The committee meets the first Monday of
each month. Please submit your application no later
than the Friday before the meeting. Architectural
specifications, forms and procedures can be found
online at: http://davislake.org/arc.htm
