BridgeMill Golf Academy “Our Goal is to Help You Enjoy Your Golf More” Tips From The Pro Improve Your Putting Dr. Cary Middlecoff, who won 40 tour events including three majors, had this to say about putting: “Any golfer can make himself a better putter if he will approach the problem intelligently and work at it.” Along with the right putter for the individual, there are four skills that are required for good putting. 1. The Proper Read- “The art of judging slope and speed is not entirely God-given. It is possible to a great degree to develop the faculty. But the major part of any putting practice should be directed to that end rather than to the development of a perfectly accurate stroke.” - Bobby Jones 2. The Proper Aim- “Most golfers misalign because they do not see what they think they see.” See It & Sink It - Dr Craig Farnsworth 3. Stroking Where you Aim- “There is no such thing as the perfect stroke. Every great player’s stroke is different. They are consistent though at rolling the ball where they are looking.” - David Orr (Putting Coach to Justin Rose) 4. Control Speed- “My first concern in looking over a putt is the ball’s speed.” Bobby Locke The SAM PuttLab and the other tools we have at The Golf Academy can help identify your strengths and weaknesses and assist you with intelligently improving your putting. Give me a call. You can be a better putter! Best Wishes for a Great Summer! SAM PuttLab This analysis and training system based on accurate ultrasound measurements. It analyzes the 28 most important parameters of your putting stroke and displays the results in easy to understand graphic reports. The analysis reveals even the smallest details of your movements and allows you to develop improvements and training strategies. It is going to be a very close finish this year. The BridgeMill Junior Golf Academy has several levels to fit the needs of our junior golfers. Evite and details will be sent the first of August so watch for it and RSVP to attend this fun evening of good food, friends and relaxation. Saturday, July 4th, we joined forces with the Men’s Golf Association to host the annual Firecracker Tournament. One cup of the leafy green vegetable contains far more than your daily requirements of vitamin K and vitamin A, almost all the manganese and folate your body needs and nearly 40 percent of your magnesium requirement. It is a very good source of more than 20 different measurable nutrients, including dietary fiber, calcium and protein. 1 cup has only 40 calories, so spinach is an excellent choice for nutrition without high calories. Cancer-Fighting Antioxidants Abound in Fresh Spinach Spinach contains more than a dozen individual flavonoid compounds which work together as cancer-fighting antioxidants. These elements neutralize free radicals in the body and thus help to prevent cancer. In fact, one study of New England women showed less breast cancer cases among those who ate spinach on a regular basis. Spinach extracts have reduced skin cancer in lab animals and show promise at slowing stomach cancer as well. Eating Spinach Combats Ovarian, Prostate Cancers The Journal of Nutrition reports that spinach contains a carotenoid that makes prostate cancers destroy themselves. This same carotenoid, after being changed by the intestines, prevents prostrate cancer from reproducing itself. Spinach also contains kaempferol, a strong antioxidant that prevents the formation of cancerous cells. Women who have a high intake of this flavonoid show a reduced risk of ovarian cancer, likely because of kaempferol's ability to reduce cancer cells proliferation. Kaempferol is also found in non-herbal tea, onions, apples, citrus, grapes, red wine, curly kale, St. John's wort, leeks, broccoli and blueberries. Spinach Improves Brain Function, Protects Against Aging This dark green leaf will protect your brain function from premature aging and slow old age's typical negative effects on your mental capabilities. Spinach accomplishes this by preventing the harmful effects of oxidation on your brain. Those who eat vegetables in quantity, especially those of the leafy green variety, experience a decrease in brain function loss. However, iceberg lettuce doesn't cut it. A good rule of thumb: the darker the leaf, the better. Spinach is great both raw and cooked. Give one of these ideas a try: 1. 2. 3. 4. Blend a couple of handfuls of spinach into your favorite smoothie. Sautee spinach in olive oil with pine nuts and onion. Add spinach to your favorite egg omelet. Spinach salad with dried cranberries (or any fruit of your choice), pecans and red onion. 5. Spinach and artichoke dip For information on Fitness Programs, please call 770-345-2990. BridgeMill Sixes Service League This is an open invitation to all past members of the BSSL. We are celebrating our 15th year and asking past members to clear their calendars for August 20th at 7:00pm We would love to celebrate our Welcome Back meeting with you. Some of the current members don’t know the history of our organization and would love to hear your stories. Please leave a message for Nicole Shippy at bsslmember@gmail.com if you will be attending. We hope you can join us. The Barbara Nugent Summer Lunch Program was a huge success again this Summer. Special thanks to Susan Gaines, Linda Emore and Judy West for organizing and purchasing all of the items needed to make 2500 delicious lunches for children of Cherokee County. Lunches were delivered Monday to Friday in 8 Georgia Counties serving over 8000 children daily. This Summer we helped provide over 250,000 lunches to children in Georgia. Thank you members of BSSL and your children for helping prepare sandwiches and assembling the lunch bags for distribution. Our other project for the summer was providing Hygiene Bags for parents of children that received free backpacks at Give A Kid A Chance in July. In addition these children received free haircuts, dental checkups, eye exams, clothing, stuffed animals and free books. Thanks so much Lynne Weimer and Caroline Zipkin for leading this project for the second year. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank all of the women and children who showed up to pack and transport the Hygiene Bags. We couldn’t have worked so efficiently without your help. The next scheduled meeting of the BSSL will be on August 20th, 7:00pm at the Terrace. Don’t forget to bring your SCAT items to the meeting. This month we are collecting prepackaged snacks for Elementary children. No peanuts please. 26 Visit the Service League website at www.bssl.org BridgeMill Community Association If you are already thinking about the Fall yard sale, it is scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd, 8:00am - 2:00pm. Mark your calendars! Your neighbors don’t care what the inside of your home looks like, however we all are concerned when the exterior of a home goes into disrepair and the yard is being neglected. Siding should be repainted about every 4-5 years (depending on the prior paint job and quality of paint used). Paint acts as a sealant to protect your home and most painters will caulk your home prior to repainting. It’s a good idea to replace any delaminated or rotted wood when the home is being repainted. Let’s talk lawn maintenance……………the yard needs to be edged as well as cut and don’t forget about bushes and shrubs. A neatly manicured yard adds curb appeal and keeps BridgeMill looking clean and attractive. Fresh pine straw and mulch in the planting beds also makes a yard look attractive. It doesn’t matter if your lot is small or large; all property owners need to be maintaining the yard and house. Congratulations to the July Yard Of the Month Winners! 502 Autumn Walk, Owner: Donna Pucci 142 Gold Mill Place, Owner: James Todd, Sr. Many thanks to the Yard of the Month Committee – Nancy Madden and Barbara Stanford!
